15 Apex predator

Alex got to the point that hunting the anjanaths was just as easy as the great jagras and kulu ya ku around four days after that. he turned his attention to the last four large monsters that are common in the ancient forest at this time. the tobi kadachi , the pukei pukei and the king and queens of the area rathalos and rathian. alex knew that far more stuff would start showing up after the fifth fleet got here but right now these were his targets. the first two posed no problem for alex to hunt since they were weaker than the anjanaths but stronger than the great jagras.

Alex was very passionate at hunting the tobi's after eating one and learning the flesh actually boosted his thunder element. it was a small boost but better than nothing as far as he was concerned , though he did notice the effects start to wane after the third one. alex's thunder element was about half as strong as a high rank version of the tobi from his estimates. this was a pretty damn good chunk of power since it only really lost to the elder dragon level monsters.

It was the fifth if the next month when alex finally set his sights on the apex of the ancient forest biome. an interesting thing to note was that barring unique circumstances there was only ever one of any particular type of monster in the forest at the same time. it was odd since alex knew for certain that there were whole groups of monsters living there after stumbling across the rath colony at the top of the huge tree. This made it easier to hunt for alex though since only one rathalos and rathian was in the area at a time.

Alex left astera thinking he would find a rath member easily since the were pretty big and flew everywhere. he quickly learned that he was very wrong because as it turned out it was very hard to notice a rath member flying amongst the huge trees. alex didn't actually find one until two days had passed when he just randomly came across a rathalos hunting in the aptanoths area. alex stood out like a sore thumb against the bright grass and sandy tan ground so it was no surprise that the rathalos noticed him. the wyvern roared at him in order to try and scare him away but alex just roared back louder.

The rathalos decided that it was having none of alex's disregard for it and flew towards him claws first. alex calmly dodged sideways and dragged his claws along the rathalos's right side as it flew past. this gouged deep furrows into the thick scales but didn't reach the flesh below but alex was fine with that since it meant that part of the wyvern was weakened greatly. alex didn't wait for the rathalos to stop moving as he wing dashed towards the confused wyvern.

Wing dashing was something alex figured out long ago were he flapped his wings at an angle while running to gain an extra burst of speed. this let alex accelerate near instantly , removing the build up of momentum needed. alex used this control of his momentum to latch onto the rathalos's tail before it could turn around and dig his claws into the scales. they shattered under his full grip strength and alex's claws stabbed deep into the flesh underneath. the rathalos roared in pain from the sudden wounds and went to swing its tail to remove alex from it , a poor decision.

Alex came off of the wyvern but that was only because the part he was on became detached as his claws tore it off from the rathalos's own movements. the rathalos screamed in agony as it entered a blood thirsty rage , flames spewing from its mouth. the wyvern was grounded at the moment as it stumbled out of the air when it's tail came off. alex abandoned the tail and ran towards the rathalos right as it began to shoot balls of flame at him which he tanked. due to the short time used to create those fireballs they were not as hot a say the fire stream of an angry anjanath.

As a result besides getting a bit heated up alex was almost unaffected from the fireballs giving him the advantage as he slammed into the rathalos at full speed. this caused the unprepared wyvern to flip onto its back exposing it's underbelly and throat. alex wasted no time closing his jaws around the wyverns throat. alex wrapped his tail around the rathalos's jaws and with a combined effort from the tail and jaws alex snapped the rathalos's neck. killing it instantly as it stopped struggling , alex release the corpses throat and raised his head to the sky and roared his victory.
