47 A wound and a thirst

Freya couldn't see the damage but the scream of pain that nergigante let out made it clear there was a considerable amount. when the light of the energy faded away and she could see again freya noticed a huge scorch mark in the place where there was once a wing. this made her break out in a cold sweat at the sheer devastation obsidians opening salvo released on nergigante. what she was unaware of was that the only reason alex had aimed for the wing rather than the head was because she was standing in front of it.

Alex would have had to impale her in order to target nergigante's head but considering how much of fates plan relied on her continued living , as well as his own diswant to get hunted to death he went for crippling nergigante instead. either way alex had just sealed nergigante's death into stone with his first attack. it took alex only a moment to mix the metal on him back to it's perfect ratio returning him to his new bronze coloration. it was clear that nergigante was scared when alex did this as it recognized alex immediately as he shifted into view.

The elder entirely ignored freya and had it's focus solely on the biggest threat to it's life as it walked forward. freya didn't disagree with it's assessment of their threat levels as even though she was confident in killing it she knew alex would do so far far easier than she could. this didn't mean she wasn't going to punish the elder for ignoring her however as her own energy flared and she dashed towards the focused dragon. nergigante didn't even notice he was being attacked until the sting of the dual blades cutting into it's skin began.

Alex watched freya slashing at nergigante and opening long shallow cuts in it's tough leathery hide but he was aware that for monsters like them those kinds of wounds were merely annoying until there were a lot of them. nergigante proved this when he tried to swat her away without looking away from alex like a fly buzzing around him. alex took his time approaching nergigante as he couldn't just attack at range without risking killing freya. she was moving about underneath the elder and it it dodged alex's attack she would be hit instead , it was a bit irritating for alex but he held back his impatience.

Nergigante roared at alex when he got within ten meters of it in an attempt to get him to back off. alex simply took a deep breath which caused his chest to swell before he roared at the top of his lungs. the ground vibrated intensely for an moment at the intensity of the roar and both nergigante and freya froze like a rabbit meeting a lion. this was the suppression of life levels coming into effect and making their instincts briefly short circuit their minds. the effect was broken through by freya almost instantly as hunters were trained to resist that suppression.

It was different for nergigante who had never experienced being set before a superior being who wanted it dead. as an elder dragon that ate other elder dragons nergigante was right at the pinnacle of the food chain in most cases. the few species of elder dragon higher than it were so rare that it had simply never been in contact with them. alex and freya both took advantage of nergigante's stunned state and attacked furiously. she moved out of the way as alex wing dashed into the elder and smashed it's head into the nearby crystal wall.

Freya then wasted no time at all stabbing her dual blades into the exposed belly of nergigante repeatedly to do as much damage as possible before it came to it's senses. meanwhile alex was slamming nergigante's head into the wall over a over again snapping its horns off in the process while disorienting it. soon enough nergigante's survival instincts kicked in and it began to claw and bite at anything it could reach which forced freya to back off to avoid being disemboweled. alex had no such qualms and merely sent torrents of electricity through his claws and burning the flesh and eyes of nergigante. freya watched in horror as alex's claws lit up and rapidly cooked nergigante's head inside out as it failed to free itself with ever weakening struggles before finally laying still.
