Chapter 08 - Farewell, A Star's Descent

Written By Dr Armstrong

~[Amon POV]~

Sanity...what is even that?

The ability to think and behave in a completely normal manner. It was the meaning of sound mental health.

...To behave normally, Amon thought that it was completely irrational!

KILL, CONSUME, CONQUER, MULTIPLY.

"BARK!" A beastly growl was released from the depths of his throat as the single directive of 'KILL, CONSUME, CONQUER, MULTIPLY' overtook his mind.

...Dipping an actual child into the liquified minds of literal Dinosaurs probably wasn't the soundest action the Principality had ever done, but it was still better than having no mind at all.

Angels rarely have any mental problems at all, the ones who do usually fall. So there was a distinct shortage of mind healers in Heaven...

What kind of miserable person falls into depression when they're literally in Paradise? The Fallen do, and they mostly just make up their own imaginary problems since they're too spoiled.

The Principality shrugged at the younger Angel's current state, it wasn't permanent—at least, usually...

The Sea of Consciousness was a natural facet of Heaven's environment. All Heavens have a Sea of Consciousness and as the rightful rulers of Paradise, Angels naturally possess a kind of resistance against the Sea of Consciousness's effects.

Unless an Angel somehow finds a way to become a high-functioning freak of nature, their minds should be able to recover if given ample time.

...Although, the increased mental power provided by the Sea of Consciousness would also wear off. Of course, no one was possibly stupid enough to sacrifice their sanity for it, right?

「Create [Skill - Mind Partitioning] with 34 Karma Points?」

「NOTICE: You lack the necessary Karma Points for this Creation.」

Never mind—though unfortunately, he was simply too poor at the current moment.

...As to how in the hell he had managed to write the description? The System understood all languages, including roars and the like.

Though it still came out as; "Can many think, same time—no problemo." due to the Angel's currently wrecked mind.

The Sea of Consciousness did indeed grant him one super-fast thinking speed, but it unfortunately also reduced his 'Wisdom' to abysmal levels...

"HONK!" He didn't know what kind of Dinosaur made that specific noise, but it had to be a particularly terrifying one.

The Angel was about to release yet another beastly howl but abruptly stopped as he felt a sharp pain on his wings.

It was the Principality's doing, the older Angel held a hand open as bright light emanated from the open fist.

Amon showed no resistance, it would be very strange if the Principality had just decided to kill him for no reason—this must be a sort of support-type manoeuvre done by the older Angel for Amon's benefit.

And his theory proved to be correct as the wounds mended themselves before a wing sprouted back from its stump with an audible thud.

Though the blood and gore that had already been released from the body remained. Clearly, cleaning wasn't a part of this healing technique.

But after closer inspection, the Angel realized that it wasn't so much a type of Healing Magic, but actually just Holy Light Manipulation.

The Ether Body Talent truly came in clutch for the Angel race as they could close off any injury by simply manipulating the body's Holy Light.

—CRACK~CRACK~!*

"!?" The pair of Angels looked up at the sky as rifts in reality cracked open upon the celestial clouds, catching the Demon King's attention as his formerly vacant eyes snapped toward the spatial cracks.

Looks like trouble's brewing on the horizon...

"...Have you recaptured thought?" The older Angel asked Amon with a brisk tone.

"HONK." Yes sir...

The Principality nodded in understanding before suddenly throwing the younger Angel straight into the air with reckless abandon.

"FLY!" The Principality shouted like a certain green Demon King Jr with a fist punching the air in cheer.

"HONK-HONK!?" Honks of pure panic were released as the Angel's form spiralled in the air.

With the unexpected Demon invasion, this would be his first genuine flight...

And as with the other flight-based species...there was no education in this field.

"RAAAGGGHH!!!" The Angel screamed as his form fell from the sky. He rapidly flapped his wings in panic as he attempted the almost herculean task of flight.

—WOOSH~!*

However, the moment his wings were unfurled...

"HONK...?" The Angel opened his dozens of eyes as he looked with confusion evident in his gaze.

He was floating midair, suspending upon nothing without even needing to flap.

Ah, that explains how Angels fly with these tiny ass wings. They don't actually flap, they just kind of...levitate.

...Though for some reason, the wings were still necessary in that levitation process as he had tried to fly before and couldn't manage to do so.

Perhaps there were certain floatation organs located in the wings...

"Quick, Child! You have to get out before Father descends!" The Principality shouted with urgency as he reached Amon's location in less than a millisecond.

"HONK...?" Wait, you...? What about the Principality!?

"What are you waiting for? Leave! My duty is here!" Ah, that's correct.

The Principality was an Artificial Angel, one working under the wings of Archangel Azrael.

Amon quickly deduced that the source of the sky rifts must be none other than Azrael, who ought to descend to drive away the Demon King and his forces.

In such a scenario, this Heaven would turn into a fearsome battlefield that the Principality held little chance of surviving, let alone a mere Hatchling Spark like Amon...

"HONK..." He honked sadly.

=C

The Principality gave a short smirk at the younger Angel's saddened expression before turning back in the other direction with wings stretched out.

"Wait! Name!!!" The sheer canonical impact of this event momentarily brought Amon into the world of clear speech as he requested the Principality's name.

"My name is Altair, Feather of Death...farewell." The Principality turned back his head with a grin before blazing away at top-level speeds.

Amon watched the older Angel leave before the sky shattered into a thousand, million pieces.

An Angel like figure descended from above, bright light covering its every form...

But it was not Azrael, the young Angel felt a disgusting yet strangely familiar aura when he gazed at the terrifying figure up above.

It had not been the Archangel of Death—the one who had joined the battlefield was none other than the true source of the gazing eyes; Demon King...

...Lucifer, the Morningstar.

Stones, you know the drill.
