Chapter 04 - Finally, I'm The Hatched!

Written By Dr Armstrong

~[Amon POV]~

The Extremis Virus is a form of 'nanotechnology' that uses the body's innate bio-electrical potential to activate parts of the brain that govern repair and chemically recode them, enhancing them to superhuman levels.

'Hah, I guess they'll have to call me Superangel...suck my ass, Kal-El.' The Virus was basically just a glorified healing potion, a permanent one.

Though this healing factor accelerates the body's metabolic systems to an exaggerated degree, producing extreme heat as a side effect. This is where the Fire-breathing capabilities of Dr Killian originated from.

But that was in the case of Humans, the Extremis Virus reacted in a completely different way after being exposed to his celestial physiology.

The thing was...Angels did not have metabolic systems. As stated by the Ether Body's description, an Angel's body is just corporeal holy light that did possess any bodily needs.

Angels instead of needing food and water, sustained themselves through the ambient light...but this statement was technically incorrect.

It wasn't the light, it was radiation...specifically, infrared radiation.

The Extremis Virus had accelerated his radiation absorption by leaps and bounds, giving him the Radioactivity Skill.

This new Skill of his granted him the ability to consciously emit extreme amounts of gamma rays while simultaneously creating the signature heat of Extremis-users.

The Virus also gave him Extremis Reinforcement, which was merely the superhuman physical abilities acquired from the Virus. After all, Dr Killian was able to fight and rip apart Tony Stark's Ironman suit without much difficulty.

'God, it feels like I'm inside a closet...' The Virus had accelerated his growth by leaps and bounds. After all, He had just skipped a whole 7 years of growth!

The Angel's body was many times larger than before he ingested the Virus. Previously, he had been merely the size of a tennis ball...now he was as big as a basketball!

Amon now barely fit inside his egg.

—RING~RING~!*

'Oh?' Amon looked glanced at his Status, caught off guard by the alarm.

'The timer ran out, perfect!' The Angel muttered as he reached out with his many tendrils, pushing the walls of his prison with the tentacles.

—Crack~Crack~!*

The purifying light of Heaven spilt in through the gaps as Amon shattered the eggshell.

With his juiced-up body, the task was quite effortless as he currently held physical strength capable of shattering even high-quality metals.

—Crack~!

His eggshell cracked for the final time and shattered into a thousand, million pieces, the remains being burnt to ashes by the extreme heat radiating out of the Angel's celestial body.

For the first time, the Angel's wings unfurled and revealed themselves to the world. His diagonally-facing jaw ripped open as the light bounced off from his reflective fangs. His many eyes looked around, each facing a different direction.

Finally, Amon the Hatched!

He was inside a huge Monastery, one as big as a Soccer Stadium. In the middle of the Monastery was a sky-reaching geyser that continuously shot out streams of holy water.

Surrounding the central geyser was a shallow, classroom-sized pond of sparkling holy water. Numerous angelic eggs littered the pond's beach, their forms partially drenched in holy water as a method of incubation.

Alongside the central geyser and its pond, were four other such monuments. Although they were much smaller in comparison to the central one.

There was a distinct lack of any Angels inside the Monastery, which was a bit...strange to say the least.

'This should be the birthing place of the True-born Angels...I thought there would at least be some Artificial Angels guarding this place...' Amon naturally knew the difference between the True-born and Artificial Angels.

It was one of the limited pieces of information about the Angel race provided in the original novel.

Demons outnumbered the Angels by an overwhelming amount.

Even though most of those Demons were just cannon fodder, the higher-ups of Heaven still did not enjoy seeing their kin get gang-banged by the denizens of the Abyss...

And so came the existence of the Artificial-born Angels, who were naturally more powerful than the True-born upon birth...though sadly, they could not really grow beyond the level at which they had been created, limiting their overall potential.

"I guess they must be busy or something..." The Angel muttered to himself as he eyes the pool of Holy Water... Suddenly, he could feel an intense thirst building up inside of him...

'Drink!' His body moved by itself as the Angel practically leapt towards the pond, submerging himself inside the holy water.

His mouth began breathing in the water, sucking litre upon litre as he bathed in the pond, then...

—DING~!*

The Angel froze beneath the water as the domineering sound of bells took over his senses...

"Jabjajhb sjijnw ksajh uwunba!" Unintelligible whispers resounded in his non-existent ears as the sound of bells continued in the background.

Amon's eyes remained stagnant as if consumed by shock. Wave upon wave of data was injected directly into his very mind, leaving no room to think, let alone formulate words.

It was the inherited memory that every Angel ought to receive on their birthday. The inherited memory contained a tremendous amount of information, from the various ranks of the Angel hierarchy to even the deep intricacies of Holy Light.

How to produce holy water, how to exorcise evil spirits, how to grant blessings to humans of noble disposition, how to resurrect the dead, how to purge illnesses, how to walk on water, how to fly in the air, how to fight against Demons, how to cure insanity, how to...

—Ripple~Shsh~!*

The pond rippled as a hand crashed through the surface of the water. The Angel's form ascended through the water, lifted by a hand.

The source of the hand held him by his wings as saliva dripped down from its monstrous maw.

It had an abominable appearance that invoked a kind of instinctual terror in the Angel's heart. It stood upon two tree bark-like legs but had the posture of a Gorilla. Intense heat radiated from its scaly body, molten magma dripping down from the pores.

It bore a crown of horns on its terrible head, a pair of lava pools acted as its terrifying eyes, and its gaping maw was like a valley of molten daggers...

Amon naturally knew the identity of this fiendish creature. After all, it was his natural adversary, the only creature that could match up to the might of Heaven...

Demon!
