Chapter 23: Bonds and Prophecies

**Kait**

Marcey’s eyes become thin slits, pupils large and angry. Her mouth curls and her hair coils up as electricity fills the air.

“She’s not ready for that,” Marcey hisses.

Jake shakes his head, not backing down. “That’s not up to us to decide,” he states, looking down at the book.

“Excuse me,” I interject. “But seeing as I’m the subject in question, don’t I get a say in this? Exactly what do you think I’m not ready for?”

Marcey seems to deflate a bit, but her jaw is still rigid with indignation. She sighs. “Fine, there’s something I haven’t told you yet.”

Marcey’s eyes flick to Jake, expecting him to say something, but he continues his silent stare.

Marcey’s eyes return to me, her expression placid. “Every witch has special abilities,” she begins. “Some, like me, are good with potions, and others, like Indiana, are good with fire crafting. Then, they are the rarer talents.”

“What does this have to do with me?” I interrupt. Her eyes silence me as she goes on.
