A Rested Body

As the taxi driver looked at Si Xiu's hands, a camera in her hands let out a beam of Qi that was directed at his eyes. The Qi slipped past his eyelids and into his eyes, through which they were absorbed through.

The taxi driver's face froze, and he started to drop to the ground. Si Xiu quickly lifted him up after storing her camera in her pocket, not letting him hit the concrete on her pavement. Shen Ying stared suspiciously at Si Xiu as she lifted the taxi driver on her back and hauled him back to her house.

"Did you... kill him?" Shen Ying asked.

"Of course not, don't be silly. This camera here is a nifty little device that helps to replace certain memories for non-cultivators. I bought it at a high premium for incidents such as this." Si Xiu whipped out the camera from her pocket after she had placed the driver down on the ground first.

"Why would you need to hide your cultivator skills? Is there something wrong with cultivating?" Shen Ying curiously asked. Cultivation should be a prominent thing in society, should it not? After all, it could assist others with prolonging their lifespan.

"We are in the civilised age now. Even if there are gods and demons, we cannot let outsiders know of cultivators. Otherwise, the whole world would try to cultivate and revert to the law of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak. Our technology would leap backwards, and I would not be able to play my favourite games without servers!"

Si Xiu spat out this piece of information. She had already memorised this explanation by heart after saying this speech to a lot of trainee cultivators.

Shen Ying wished that she had more of her counterpart's memories. She only had some information about this world from the strange dream she had, and even so had to infer the information, so it was not really accurate.

As Si Xiu pulled the taxi driver's body back to her house, Shen Ying picked up her bag that had been placed onto the floor earlier, and carried it into Si Xiu's house. Si Xiu dug her hands into her deep pockets, and there was some ringing, as she pulled out the shiny key ring from the pockets.

Si Xiu fumbled for the correct key, before catching onto the right one. She thrusted the key into the brass keyhole, twisting it and unlocking the door mechanism.

"Even cultivators are not absent from the average person's problems." Shen Ying observed from a distance, as she dragged her feet towards the house. Her body had been extremely exhausted and worn out by the Qi rampage earlier.

Every time she moved, she felt like moving across hot coals. She still had to move to Si Xiu's house, so she decided to walk slowly to prevent her injuries from being aggravated. As Si Xiu has already brought the taxi driver inside, Shen Ying decided to look around the surroundings.

Si Xiu's house was a small brick house, which looked very minimalistic. There were some strange sigils inscribed on some bricks, but she did not know the purpose of them. The house itself was located in a street that was almost filled with bungalows, except for Si Xiu's house.

It was a sharp contrast to all the skyscrapers and high buildings that Shen Ying has seen in the taxi. Not only that, there were lots of facilities around for people to use. Shen Ying guesses that this must be a place where rich people lived in. It was only Si Xiu's house that was out of place.

"Come in! What are you waiting there for?" Si Xiu called Shen Ying over from the boundaries of her house.

"Coming! Coming!" Shen Ying hobbled into the house with her wobbly legs, and had nearly fell while going up the steps.

Si Xiu grabbed her hand and lifted her as she helped Shen Ying go into her house. Contrary to what Shen Ying has expected, Si Xiu's house was very spacious compared to its exterior.

It was a sparkling clean house with white marble tiles, and the inside was painted with a green paint, which gave off a pleasant smell. Just by smelling the paint, Shen Ying's body already felt better. The taxi driver was laid on a red chair, which looked very comfortable.

Shen Ying laid down on a gray couch, and felt a sense of familiarity to it. It was as if she had done this action numerous times before. A large television was also directly across the couch, which immediately started playing a drama as Si Xiu turned it on with a remote from her pockets.

"Do you like that couch? My niece used to love it a lot when she lazed around on it." Si Xiu asked Shen Ying.

"Well, that explained why I felt this was so familiar. Also, may I ask, what paint is that? That smells so good." Shen Ying pointed at the green walls. She had seen paint like this back in her father's palace, where an aspiring inventor had sold the formula of it to her father. Those times were the only fun parts about the court that she had to attend.

"What? That's not green paint. That's blood splattered when I killed a Spirit Beast that tried to get into my house. Those are truly meddlesome creatures, always trying to eat my herbs." Si Xiu complained about her frustrations to Shen Ying.

When Shen Ying heard about herbs, her eyes perked up almost immediately. Herbs could be used to craft immortal pills and advance one's cultivation. It was not recommended to use pills solely to increase in cultivation however, due to the possibility of their foundation collapsing.

The only benefit was that it was less likely to fail than cultivation boosted by higher ranked cultivators. As for that, no one would be stupid enough to advance using that method. The 100% failure rate rooted in history was enough to dissuade anyone from trying it.

As Shen Ying thought of all this, she closed her eyes to try and get some proper sleep for once. She was tired from all the happenings that had occured today. It was not long, before she fell into serenity.

Finally, our protagonist gets some good quality rest! Exactly when the contest is over. Thank you to everyone who helped to support this novel! It makes me glad to see people supporting my novel. Remember to comment on chapters and help me improve!
