1 Reincarnation

Jacob woke up with a dull throb gasping for air. He frantically looked around in confusion. He was in a bed in a somewhat ordinary room. The only notable things he could see was a bookshelf with a handful of slim books, a desk with a few textbooks, and a night stand with a lamp.

His first chaotic thought was that he was in a high end hospital room, but that was quickly discarded by the lack of medical equipment. Before he could continue thinking his head burst into immense pain. Images, emotions, and thoughts flooded his mind.

Damn! He reincarnated!

Not only that, it is 2000 years into the future!

Not only that, there is a cultivation system!

The memories of a person named Jacob Davis flow into his mind, like a slightly blurred movie. They share the same first name, with the last names being different, his previous last name was Smith. He is in a family of four, a mother, father, and a younger sister by a year.

Past Jacob just died due to cultivation deviation before New Jacob took his place. The reason for the deviation is a large emotional turmoil from recently being told he was adopted. The mental shock was large to him, and he has been locked in his room the last few days cultivating non-stop because he was unsure of how to face his family.

The New Jacob, though, has to deal with the current issue of his body feeling like it is being stabbed with needles because his cultivation base is in turmoil. Following the hazy memories of a text book Past Jacob once read, he calms the turbulent energy in his body. Then continues thinking about the memories revealed to him.

When humans developed the first warp capable spaceship, able to travel between solar systems. They were contacted by a representative of the Star grade civilization that governs the area the milky way resides, the Elves.

When the Elves came, they also brought the universal basic cultivation method. The universe is a harsh place, that cannot always be completely overcome by technology… The cultivation method was developed by the Golden King race, the race that currently rules the starfield where the elves, humans, and many other races live.

There are nine levels to the current cultivation. The first level is 'Jurat', a word from the native tongue of the golden king civilization, translated meaning 'Body Refinement'. One must form a complete energy cycle within the body, that tempers and refines it. It is also the most important one, because depending on the energy cycle you create, it can have long lasting effects on your future cultivation.

Past Jacob died because he tried to forcefully complete his energy cycle and failed, crippling his cultivation, and destroying his mind. This gave a chance to New Jacob to take his place. But this also left a lot of problems. First, he has to entirely restart cultivation. It took Past Jacob 8 years to reach the peak of body refinement.

Second, he has locked himself in his room for many days, with nothing but nutrient packs to eat. His family must be very worried about him, and he has to properly settle it, explaining away any future personality changes. Past Jacob was a boring guy who was a martial arts fanatic with a negative EQ and a moderate IQ. New Jacob is a standard wuxia otaku with a vibrant personality.

He decides to handle his family situation first, he cleans the blood leaking from his mouth due to the deviation, grabs a set of clothes and a towel, and for the first time in 4 days, left his room. It is currently early morning before the sun has even risen. He quickly takes a shower. His movements must have woken the rest of the household, because as he left the shower he sees his sister sitting on the couch in the living room.

He looks at her and says, "Good morning Saiya. I'm gonna make breakfast this morning, pancakes sound good?" The girl on the couch is absolutely stunned! Her brother, who normally has a cold face and rarely speaks unless it is about martial arts, just offered to make breakfast. She quickly gets up and puts her hand on his forehead, "Brother! Are you alright? I know the shock must have been huge but it won't change anything!"

Knowing that she misunderstood him, he laughed and said, "No, I'm serious, wait for mom and dad to get up and we can eat breakfast together." Saiya is sent into further shock. Her brother LAUGHED! In her entire life she has never seen him laugh, what further astounded her was that he used the terms Mom and Dad, she has only ever heard him say Mother or Father. She makes her way to her parents room in a slight panic as Jacob heads to the kitchen.

Jacob was a single man pretty much his whole life, and he always had a fatal attraction for home cooked food, and since he didn't have anyone to make it for him, he learned. He wasn't anything fancy, but he at least knew how to make blueberry pancakes. He grabs the ingredients as he starts to hum a tune, completely unaware of the three shocked pairs of eyes looking into the room.

His mother and father, now awake after being awoken by Saiya, are baffled by what is taking place. They had all kinds of worries about their son after they told him he was adopted, they even read many books on how they should handle it, but none of the books described a complete 180 in personality change.

As they are wondering what happened, Jacob finished making the pancakes, two each. He grabbed some syrup from the fridge and set the table. Turning towards the not so well hidden family, he laughed, "I finished with the pancakes, are you going to continue staring, or come and eat." Finally accepting the unreal situation, his family sits at the table in a stunned silence.

After gesturing to his family to eat, Jacob starts talking, "I've been thinking these past few days, thinking about my life, my future, and practically everything else. Being told I was adopted was a huge shock, and it made me think about a lot of things. Eventually, I came to a conclusion.. SO WHAT?!" After a laugh that startles his sister and parents, he continues, "My final thought was 'So What?' Me being adopted doesn't change anything, You have taken care of me for 18 years of my life, you have always been my family, and nothing will change that."

His parents look at each other in shock, wondering if their son has attained the legendary 'free and unfettered state' before tears well up in their eyes as they get up to hug their son, with Saiya joining in. After a heartwarming moment they seperate, and then Jacob's face gets serious and says something that makes his family's souls fly out, "I went into cultivation deviation, I plan to go to the clinic later today."

Without waiting for him to continue, his mother frantically grabs onto him and shouts, "No! We must go now, what if something major happened to you!" His father and sister joined in quickly with agreement. Helpless, he is taken by hover car to the clinic about a mile away from his house.

After being run through a variety of tests, the verdict came out. A middle-aged doctor comes out with a clipboard saying, "Mr. Davis, you were rather lucky, your cultivation only dissipated, not crippled. I will prescribe you some recovery medicine, and you should be able to cultivate as normal with no side-effects."

His family sighs in relief, as his mother starts to berate him about being more careful. Eventually they get home around dinner time, with his mother making dinner this time. After a bit of light chat everyone gets ready for bed.
