1 End of Old Life

[Capture that bastard!]

[Don't let him get away from us! Run faster, come on.]

[Boy, stop! If you stop right now and give us the suitcase, we'll only beat you till' you're half dead!]

[Tch, what bad luck.]

[You're dead when I catch you boy!]

[The deal goes wrong and now we've been robbed. Don't make it hard on us boy, we can stop this marathon and talk it out at the table!]

Shouts echoed through the forest in the night. Rain drizzled down on the men running as if their life depended on the suitcase the boy dashing away holds. The boy chose to keep on going as he knew they wouldn't let him leave alive.

The boy being chased is someone who lived in the slums throughout his whole life called Brian. Brian lived most of his life by himself enjoying the quietness of his old home. Brian's despicable father that would beat him to quench his anger died from alcohol poisoning, his mother abandoned Brian for a better life leaving him by himself to do his best to survive. Not to live, but to survive. Brian scrounged through the dumpsters behind restaurants, searching for anything edible, pickpocketing, fighting with the others doing the same, and the raccoons scratching Brian and snatching his hard earned food as the days passed, Brian started to care less about others. Brian attended high school until he dropped out at junior year not caring anymore.

Brian was trying his best to survive until a couple hours ago. Seeing a group of 9 large men in black suits holding a suit case, Brian stayed hidden watching them incase there was money inside. Items would be useless to him as he didn't have an ID, much less a document to show his proof of ownership. After waiting for an hour, the bored Brian was about to leave when he saw 4 large black Cadillac Escalade SUVs surround the men with 7 men coming out from each car. 1 of the 9 men was going to make a call to somewhere as he must've realized something was wrong, but before the man could, the 28 men each took our various semi-automatic guns and opened fire upon the 9 men. The large man was immediately fired at with bullets raining onto him. The 8 other large men ducked as fast as they could before taking out pistols and firing at the car in front of them. As the 8 men ran to take cover behind the SUV, more gunshots sounded and 2 of the large men fell down with holes in their backs and blood staining their suits. One of the guys shot was holding the briefcase and as he fell down, the briefcase slid on the wet street before stopping 6 feet away from the boy. Upon noticing this, the 28 other men started walking Brian's way. Brian was not at all suspecting they saw him because his hiding skills were top notch and he'd hidden from people tons of times, nevertheless, Brian prepared himself to start running, though he knew he couldn't outrun a bullet, he still hoped to survive. As the 6 large men noticed the suitcase sliding away, they took cover behind the SUV before starting to fire at the 28 other men. 9 men from the 28 men fell down lifeless with their eyes opened. The 28 men seemed more disciplined, but since they were bundled together, shots landed on them easily. As the 19 leftover men saw this, they spread out and returned fire. Both sides fired bullets back and forward.

Time quickly passed by and more cars started to pull up to the sight and joined one side. Blood stained the desolate street flowing into sewers mixing with the rain water. As the gunfire continued, no one noticed a teen sneakily walking out from behind the alley. Brian had waited hidden within the alley for the right opportunity. As bullets flew by, some also landed on the suitcase. As a bullet flew by, the bullet landed on the lock, cracking it. As the suitcase opened, stacks of 1000 US dollar bills bundled together appeared within the suitcase. When Brian saw this he nearly dashed out to grab the suitcase, but regained his composure before looking for an opportunity. The gunfight continued on for half an hour until there were only a few men left on the 9 man team that was here. When Brian saw that no more bullets were flying through the air and gunfire couldn't be heard, he quickly dashed to the suitcase and ran back to the alley and continued to run. As everyone was fighting, there was no one who dared go out in the open to retrieve the suitcase, and as such, no one was close enough to block his path. After Brian jumped out of the alley and grabbed the suitcase, the remaining men's eyes seemed as if they were going to pop out from their anger.

[GET BACK HERE!!]

All the men shouted at the same time before chasing after Brian. Brian, although stronger than the normal teen, wasn't able to outrun the men in suits so the obvious chose would be to go to a place with plenty of obstacles and where else better than the forest. Brian quickly ran into the forest and dashed forwards using all his might to escape.

...

Running out of breath, Brian started to slow down while the men were still running at full speed towards him. The splashing water from puddles dirtied all their clothes and the darkness from the night lowered their ability to see making them trip and fall or get hit from the tree branches. The dark sky boomed.

The sky lightened up for a second then the a lightning bolt flew down from the sky as if angered and struck a tree near Brian. Endless lightning flew toward the earth continuously. As Brian ran, the suitcase in his hand started to slip out from his hands, not wanting to lose the money inside the suitcase, Brian gripped the suitcase tighter and pulled the suitcase closer to his chest. As Brian ran, a lightning bolt suddenly burst from the sky and as if aiming towards him, landed straight upon his head. Brain felt his mind go blank and his body froze as if something was controlling him. The lightning spread through his body before moving to the suitcase and zapping something under the suitcase.

Brian immediately fell down where he was standing. The men neared Brian's body, but Brian wasn't thinking of the men. Brian was currently blanking out as if he was going to die.

'Am I going to die like this? I still want to live, I don't wanna die'

Memories flashed through Brian's mind as if replaying them for him to see his regrets, joys, and mistakes.

'It might not be bad to die like this. Peacefully'.

Tears appeared on the corner of Brian's eyes flowing down his cheeks. The rain showering his dirt stained clothes. Closing his eyes, Brian blacked out on the dirt, in the pouring rain.
