10 First Step to Immortality

Zhang Wei couldn't believe his luck. Madam Chi, wife of the Chi family patriarch, had saved him from certain death. He was overjoyed and grateful beyond words. But little did he know that he was about to enter a new chapter in his life, one that would test him in ways he never imagined.

Madam Chi had offered Zhang Wei to be her personal servant, and he had eagerly accepted, hoping that he would be spared from doing the menial work that he was forced to do for the Chi family. He thought that Madam Chi, who had shown kindness to him, must be different from the rest of her family. But he was wrong.

At first, Zhang Wei didn't notice anything peculiar about Madam Chi. She seemed like a gentle and kind person, and he was grateful for the opportunity to serve her. But after a couple of months, Madam Chi's true nature began to reveal itself.

She was incredibly vain, constantly comparing herself to other beauties and asking her maids for advice on what to wear and how to do her makeup. If she didn't like the way she looked, she would lash out at her maids and order them to be punished. Zhang Wei couldn't believe what he was seeing. Madam Chi may have been kind to him, but she was still a member of the Chi family, and they all treated their servants like dirt.

But Zhang Wei had a goal in mind. He had come to the Chi family to find traces of immortals and become one himself. He knew that he would have to endure all of Madam Chi's tantrums and the abuse of the other family members if he wanted to achieve his dream.

Years went by, and Zhang Wei had been a servant in the Chi family for four long years. Despite his best efforts, he had not been able to find any evidence of immortals. He began to doubt himself and the authenticity of the rumors that there were immortals in the world. Perhaps he had been chasing a dream that didn't exist.

Zhang Wei had gradually become Madam Chi's confidant, and he could come and go to her room most of the time. Being blind, nobody knew he could see everything, so sometimes he could also enjoy her bathing. At times, it became full of lust, but for the bigger picture, and since she was kind to him, he chose not to harm her.

As the days went by, one day, an opportunity came to him. The old servant that took care of Patriarch Chi's personal library died of old age, and since no other reliable person could be found in a short time, Madam Chi gave Zhang Wei the task of cleaning the library. The things in the library were deemed top secret, so no one was allowed to enter without permission. And since he was blind, Madam Chi could confidently let him enter the library since he would not be able to read the books anyway.

For the first two months, he didn't do anything and just did the usual cleaning like he did in the bar every day. The first few days, he felt like someone was spying on him, but gradually, after a month, all those feelings disappeared. Still, he did his job as usual.

After two months, he secretly began to read some books and gain knowledge about the world. From a book on the Chi family's history, he came to know that there were actually immortals in this world, and the Chi family was descended from an immortal family of the immortal world. He only got this little knowledge, but it made him excited and gave him new hope.

For the next few days, he searched for any immortal technique but found none except for some mortal martial arts in the library. He realized that perhaps they were in the hands of the Patriarch and not in the library. The library was only some private collection of martial arts of Patriarch Chi.

One day, while cleaning the old books in the library, Zhang Wei stumbled upon an old book in the pile of waste martial arts books that was full of dirt. The book was old and worn, and the pages were yellowed with age. But as he flipped through the pages, his heart began to race with excitement.

As Zhang Wei held the old book in his hands, he could feel the weight of its importance. Even though he didn't understand the language it was written in, the quality of the paper and the intricate designs on the cover told him that this book was something special. He couldn't believe his luck in finding it hidden among the pile of waste martial arts books in the library.

Zhang Wei knew he had to be careful with the book. If anyone found out that he had it, he would surely be punished severely. But he couldn't resist the urge to try and figure out the meaning behind the strange symbols and characters on the pages.

For days, he pored over the book, trying to make sense of the ancient language. He would sit in his small room with the book open in front of him, using his fingers to trace the shapes of the characters as he tried to commit them to memory.
