webnovel

Preface

After reading many web novels, it became apparent to me that there was an urgent need for a definitive discourse on the judgment of web novels. I have observed far too much degeneracy and baseless opinions voiced by flat-headed, insipid, nauseating, illiterate charlatans over the internet. Beyond my desire to counteract negative influences, this book will serve as the review guide to any web novel reader. It is my complete intention to derive the principles and judgments in this book from the ground up, so that any sensible being will be obligated to believe in it, or otherwise be deemed foolish.

In order to call this field a science, we must exactly define the field and its limitations. I intend to critique web novels, yes, but what validates my arguments? I will avoid making pure philosophical arguments on the judgment of aesthetic, that is, taste, since there are many men more learned than me who have dedicated their whole being to the matter, and have borne fruits of knowledge that one must discover on their own. Rather, I will focus on working with the advantages provided by the inherent nature of web novels as a concept, and by establishing links to known universal judgments regarding individual concepts that web novels are composed of. Therefore, if we rigorously establish the relevant links, we will have a secure foundation on which we can proceed with the critique.

To be more particular, I will not, at least at first, critique the inherent nature of web novels, although there is much to say about the topic. Such a discussion requires abstraction beyond web novels, if done rigorously, after which the result can be applied to web novels. Therefore, I will initially focus on dissecting individual web novels, before moving on to bigger fish.

The critique of individual novels will be labeled "Transcendental Aesthetic", since we are taking the field as is, and assuming the validity of its application to the standard rules of aesthetic, although as I shall show in the second part, the "Transcendental Logic", that such an assumption does not even hold.

I recommend the reader that believes in the pure subjectivity of aesthetics to go read the works of the greats, namely David Hume and Immanuel Kant; for the rest of this work will be intelligible otherwise.

And finally, as Schopenhauer once said: To truth only a brief celebration of victory is allowed between the two long period during which it is condemned as paradoxical, or disparaged as trivial. The author of truth also usually meets the former fate. But life is short, and truth works far and lives long: let us speak the truth.
