Prologue (Read me first!)

I can recall that night perfectly. It was October 17th, 2019. I was 13, and it was around 7pm. Late enough to be dark out. I was walking home from a friend's house, cutting through an ally to shorten the walk when a pair of odd red eyes shone back at me. Shouting out, I expected to scare off the possum or whatever it was, but… It stood up. Oddly tall, then too tall, then impossibly tall to have been a possum. It was.. Human? It had to have been. Or at least humanoid, anyways. My suspicions were only confirmed when it pounced at me. Possums do not feel like that when they land on you. (Please don't ask how I know that.) I lunged to the side, trying to save myself, to no avail. Its fangs sunk into my neck. I hardly had time to process the blond hair, mysteriously red eyes, and the fact that it appeared to be about my age when it- he, whispered to me, barely audible. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you. At least… not too much. You'll just feel a pinch." An odd smirk crossed his lips, and he seemed to be more focused on sucking the blood from my veins than making conversation. I only realized what was happening as my face grew cool and my head spun, I assume due to a lack of proper blood flow. After what felt like both an instant and an eternity, he leapt off as silently as he had appeared, and I stumbled to my feet, rushing (and falling on my face, more than once) back to my friend's house.
