CHAPTER 59: Distrust

It didn't take long before Fyseryra returned, the stench of humans held on to her like a shadow.

Though Sirin couldn't care less and approached her. "I need you to keep an eye on the human named Danish. He has my mark over his face so you should recognise him."

Fyseryra glanced at him with doubt in her eyes. "Why would you need me to do such a thing? You want me to guard your fortress against your own pets."

"I don't trust him yet. If he steps out of line. He is all yours."

Fyseryra nodded and waled past Sirin. Like how the pale demon didn't trust his new pet so did not trust him yet. It was not uncommon for demons to breed with a different species resulting in some bizarre creatures, yet they would always vaguely resemble at least one of the parents. She couldn't imagine what types of demons his parents were. Or how he survived his first days sticking out like this.

She had to be on wary of this strange fiend and stay close. No matter what she needed all the power she could get, if this demon could give it to her, then so be it.

When Fyseryra was gone Sirin went to the study room that was mainly used by Hendrik.

At some point he had been so bored out of his mind that the had bothered to read a few of the books and scrolls that his friend had stolen.

While doing so he had seen something interesting. A gigantic fish that lived in the northern sea.

The people in this world seemed to call it the 'Leviathan' though Sirin doubted that this was actually that legendary creature. The name was probably the result of human ignorance. They see something powerful and think that it is the highest of the high.

No matter the name, the thing that Sirin was only interested in was the red crystal engraved in the centre of its chest.

All the depictions of this creature seemed to have it. A red crystal object that almost seemed to glow, there was no doubt about it. This was the same object as the two demons that confronted him close to the hatchery.

They were supposed to take him to the 'three pillars' once the time was right. However, he was more confident in his strength now. If he could take down the beast and steal the crystal, he might be able to use it to communicate with the red god as those two demons did. That way he wouldn't have to wait for them.

He nearly jumped up when he heard Hendrik suddenly call his name.

With a sigh, he placed all the paperwork back where it belonged and made his way over to his friend. As a shade demon he effortlessly slid through the shadows on the floors.

When he arrived and crawled out of the shadows, he saw that Hendrik had just met Fyseryra.

She was standing between Hendrik and Sirin with her back facing the pale demon. Hendrik seemed to verry uneasy about the succubus in front of him but calmed down a little once his friend appeared.

Sirin changed back to his original form and gently pulled Fyseryra back and smiled. "May I ask what is going on here?"

Fyseryra lowered her head, though it was an empty gesture as she didn't want to completely surrender herself to the strange creature in front of her.

"I am verry sorry my lord. I was doing my duty, yet it seems that I have disturbed one of your mammalian companions while doing so. I hope for your forgiveness as I seek to correct the error in my ways." She spoke in a formal yet somehow mocking tone.

But before Sirin could respond Hendrik already yelled out. "Your duty? Bullshit, she just appeared behind me and tried to rip my arm off."

Sirin narrowed his eyes and glanced at the succubus. "Oh really?"

"I wasn't trying to tear the bug's limb off, I just wanted to have a closer look at that mark on his wrist. Your mark if I'm correct." The demon spoke with her sharp teeth exposed as she furiously stared at the human.

"Fyseryra, stop that. You are the third demon my friend has ever seen and the second one he is able to have a conversation with. At least try to hold yourself back a little." Sirin's voice was fierce and made the succubus shiver for a moment.

Fyseryra was shocked as well as dumbfounded. "It's a human! They are supposed to be scared of us. Why would you even give a single shit about this ape descendant with a lifespan of less than a hundred years?" She pleated, afraid that she had screwed up now. She was convinced that the pale demon would now tear her apart and then wait for her in hell to finish the job.

This feeling only grew as the white fiend unfolded his gigantic wings, beautifully decorated with feathers. She had never seen a demon with wings like these at all, and now doubted more than ever if this thing was truly a demon at all.

Though this confusion didn't last long as Sirin grabbed her by the horns and flew out of the fortress with her.
