Chapter 49

"Fast, don't let them escape. We can get a lot of information if we manage to capture them, "Gar commanded the group as he began to run as fast as he could.

Even though he was running at his full speed, he found himself being outpaced by his daughter, Denise, and Cyrus in no time.

While Raziel used her physical might to run at a very high speed, Cyrus used some kind of martial art to strengthen his legs to run faster, while Denise began to use her air magic to move faster by striding in a way that she only touched the floor once every ten seconds or so.

In less than twenty seconds, they managed to catch three of the shadows that they had spotted.

"Good job, guys," said Edwin as he arrived at Cyrus' side while trying to catch his breath.

"I think I'm getting too old for this kind of persecution," Arthur said, wiping the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief.

As Arthur arrived, so did the light, which had been left behind by the group's speed, so they soon became capable of seeing what they had just captured.

What they had captured were three people who didn't look much different than them, so they assumed that they were humans. The biggest differences were that they looked like they had severe malnutrition, were wearing rags, and had a cloth covering their eyes. While two of them were adults, the one that Denise had captured looked like a kid.

"Why were you spying on us?" Cyrus asked while holding the edge of his sword against his prey's throat.

"We... we were not. We were just passing by and suddenly heard noises, so we wanted to confirm that no danger had appeared on this floor. "

"What kind of danger? Do you have some kind of base around here? " Cyrus continued interrogating the man.

"We thought that maybe some crawlers had come from the roof. Please, don't do us any harm. I swear that we will not tell anyone that we have met you, and it will be as if we have never encountered you. " The man started to beg Cyrus.

Seeing that those people seemed inoffensive, he decided to release him before continuing to ask.

Cyrus tried to reassure him, "We will let you go without harming you in any way, but you have to answer our questions."

As Cyrus said those words, it was clear that those people began to calm down a bit.

"And don't try to deceive us. If we realize that you have lied to us, we will come back and kill every single one of you. " Gar said with an imposing tone.

After those words, everyone in the group looked at Gar with a judging look, as it was clear that he had scared their hostages again.

"Don't look at me like that. In this kind of situation, we need to be clear with our intentions and show our strength. If not, they will take advantage of us given the opportunity. " Gar explained while trying to justify his actions.

"Well, let's start with something easy. What are those crawlers that you were talking about?" Cyrus continued with his questioning while ignoring Gar's words.

"You don't know the crawlers? You know, quadrupedal humanoids without anything on their faces other than their mouths. They have very long arms with eyes on the palms of their hands," the man tried to describe.

"I haven't seen anything like that in my whole life," Cyrus admitted.

"How can that be even possible? They have infested the world for generations. " The man said incredulously.

"Well, we are not from here," Edwin replied laughing before Arthur elbowed him on the stomach to make him shut up.

"You are talking too much," Arthur said.

At that moment, the other adult that they had captured released a sound of wonder before starting talking.

"This can't be happening..." He whispered to himself before immersing himself in his thoughts.

"What can't be happening?" Denise asked curiously, as she was the one who had that person trapped, so she was able to hear him talking.

"Well, you see, an elder from our tribe once told me a story about people coming from very far away, from a place where crawlers don't exist and where the world is not covered in mist. He told me that only those people that know the Sun will be able to break the spell and end this hell in which we are living. "The man explained, as he started to cry from emotion.

"Mist? What mist? And where is that elder? I would love to have some words with him." Denise asked very interestedly.

"If you want, we can guide you all to him. That way, you can ask him directly for everything that you want." the man said.

"Can we trust that these people will not lead us into an ambush?" Raziel asked.

"Well, if everyone around here is as weak as they are, we don't have anything to fear." Gar replied while laughing." Come on, guys, we have a chance to learn a lot about this place. Let's not waste it."

The first chapter is here, and the next will be published in a few hours.

See you later.
