Chapter 178

After seeing the tree, the army began to give their all.

Looking at the situation, they knew that the vegetation would surround them at one point or another, so their best bet was to arrive at the crater's center as soon as possible, deal with whatever they found there, and leave the hole.

Those capable of using fire or cold attacks positioned themselves behind the frontline and were in charge of opening the path for the group. Those with cutting weapons were on the group's side as they dealt with the vegetation that tried to attack them from the sides.

At the same time, most angels continued flying above the army, scouting the area and attacking from above with magic and bows made of darkness.

With this setup, the army advanced slowly but surely across the vegetation.

The more they got near the central tree, the more green light covered the nearby trees, making many rapidly grow in size and move toward the army to attack them.

"Should we use the other three totems?" Jason, the leader of the armored army, asked the cultivators.

"We should keep them for the return or a critical situation. While we can hold the lines and keep advancing, there is no reason to use them, and we sure will be a lot more tired when leaving the crater." Nathan replied.

Thankfully, the plants didn't move very dexterously, so the fact that they surrounded the army made it harder for them to attack, as their roots and branches tripped over each other.

But something happened when they were about a hundred meters from the tree.

The vegetation began to gather and tangle up, and a dozen of vegetation giants appeared, surrounded by a few hundreds of smaller versions of themselves.

Without them having time to react, around the same size as there had appeared before them.

"Fighters, keep the lines! Casters, prepare your most potent shot and work in groups of five people to take down giants!" Nathan shouted to organize his men.

After seeing their situation, the army stopped advancing and took a defensive position to meet the enemies nearing them. If they managed to defend themselves from the attack, they would destroy the vegetation of a large area around the central tree.

After a few seconds, the first clash occurred.

The shorter vegetation figures were the first to reach the army, as they were faster than the giants. At first, they tried to hit the shields around the cojoined army with their wooden fists, but as soon as they realized how little they could do without the weight of the giants, they changed the attack method.

Instead, they stabbed the ground with their fingers, which rapidly grew across the earth, passing below the barriers only to emerge from the land in the shape of wooden spears.

This move took the soldiers by surprise, and some of them became wounded, but as soon as they realized their defensive weak spot, they made their energy barriers cover them just above the floor.

That increased their energy consumption by a large margin, but that was better than being vulnerable to attacks from your enemy.

While this happened, the casters finished preparing the first round of attacks. Choosing the perfect moment, they targeted four different giants, managing to destroy each one's heads.

But before they could celebrate their small victory, an intense green light covered the bodies of those four giants, making them recover from their wounds at visible speed, even recovering their heads after a few seconds.

"Well, I think this is one of those situations where you activate one of the totems, right?" Jason asked Nathan.

"It seems to me a situation critical enough to use them," Nathan replied."With some luck, we may end this battle with two remaining totems.

As soon as Nathan said that, they did the same process as before.

A cultivator neared one of the shining plants and stabbed it with a knife to

get some of the green light. When he got it, he approached one of the totems and stabbed his blade at it, making it turn on and start gathering the green energy from its surroundings.

Even though it didn't absorb all the green light in the surroundings, it still managed to slow the regeneration of the giants by a significant margin.

And at that point, the remaining giants reached the frontlines of the army.

Here is today's chapter.
