5 Chapter 5

I quickened my pace once I left the gymnasium to ensure that nobody saw my face and tried to communicate. After reaching a safe distance, I looked at the map on the admissions brochure and headed toward the dorm.

The boys and girls all lived in the same dorm. Though there were gender-specific floors, did the school really trust that much? Over 160 teenagers living in the same dorm. Surely something bad is gonna happen. It's just a matter of time.

Since I had gotten lost for a bit while trying to find the dorm, some people were already in the lobby of the dorm. I ignored them and headed straight to the elevators. I clicked the up button and decided to check out the phone the school gave me so no one would bother me. After all, it's basic manners not to bother someone on their phone.

One app to check your points balance and transfer points. The other. Messages. I remember on the first day of middle school, everyone began exchanging numbers. I made eye contact with a girl, and she asked for my contact number. Since I had her contact number, I contacted her, but it seems she simply gave me her number out of politeness. The next day, I could hear her talking loudly to her friends. "Ewww, Hikigaya keeps texting me" I vowed from then on that I would only give my number to people I actually knew.

*DING*

The elevator arrived, and I stepped in. No one else was waiting for an elevator, so I pressed floor 5 and sighed in relief. A girl entered the lobby and immediately ran towards the elevators.

"WAIT"

It seems I let myself relax too early. Hmmm. I had 2 options here. I could ignore her and let the elevator go up. This probably led to her hating me and possibly spreading rumors which would bring attention to me. I guess my only choice is to hold the door and deal with it. I placed my hand in front of the elevator, stopping it from closing, and the girl walked in. She pressed the third-floor button and started staring at her phone.

I thanked the gods, she didn't want to talk either. I pulled at my phone and pretended to use it. Fuck, there's no weather app. The girl, looking up from her phone, asked.

"Hey, why did you leave during the self-introductions earlier?"

Who is this girl? How did she notice me? I've been a master at hiding my presence since I entered middle school. The only two who noticed me were Kanzaki, the boy in front of me, and the girl who was introducing herself. Is this her? No, I'm sure she looked different. I calmly responded.

"ah, I had something to do"

She didn't question my response and quickly left after the elevator reached her floor. I got to the fifth floor and entered my room. It was like an apartment. There was a kitchen and everything. Not like I would actually be cooking though. I lay down on the bed, opened my phone, and went to the anonymous community form.

[Student 1: Does anyone know some ways to make points?]

[Student 2: What do you need points for??? We just got our monthly points. You can sell information for points or you can wager points against some clubs like the chess one or others]

Since I spent most of my days in the library during lower and middle school, I was quite good at chess. In the library, there was a chess board, and to pass the time, I would play games with other loners. I would also watch the others play matches and figure out their strategies. After about 5 years of playing, I got pretty good. I wasn't anything crazy like a grand master, but if I were to estimate my skill level, it would be around the international master. After all, I was one of the best players in Sobu Jr High, a school known to be one of the best in the area.

After thinking it over for a bit, I decided to head to the supermarket to pick up some essentials, so I wouldn't need to leave again for a while. I exited the dorm building without any problems and headed to the supermarket.

I entered and quickly glanced around. There were only 5 other students in the store, I mean I doubt most students start shopping for essentials on the first day of school. Those do-gooders from Class B are probably out partying and celebrating.

As soon as I entered, the first thing I saw was a "free essentials section." This further proves that we do not get 100,000 points each month as who the hell would run out of money when you get 100,000 yen per amount?

I'm not stingy with my money, but I want to save all the money for the wagering tomorrow to make as much as possible. Keeping that in mind, I headed to the free sections and grabbed the maximum of 3 items. I got some glances from the other students, but I ignored them. Tomorrow, I'll be rich if everything goes to plan. I also grabbed some heatable dinner from the supermarket and headed towards the counter.

Waiting in line, I felt a tap on my back. I turned around and saw another student. She had long black hair, pale white skin, and a serious expression on her face.

"Why are you taking the free stuff, if you have 100,000 private points?"

This girl. Seriously, the audacity. She just asks questions straight up without even knowing me. I'm not in the mood to answer her questions, so I just pretended like I didn't hear her and turned around. But this girl kept pestering me.

"Hey, I'm talking to you"

I turned around again.

"And I'm clearly trying not to talk to you"

I bought the items and headed out of the supermarket and decided to look around the city to try and find a ramen restaurant, I could eat at before heading home. No matter how bad the teachers or students are, this school's campus is insane. I mean it's essentially a city, I could see karaoke, clothing stores, cafes, all types of restaurants, and even specialty stores.

I finally found a ramen shop and headed toward it, however, in the alley next to the restaurant, I could see some type of fight going on. One student, who was tall and athletic with red hair, seemed to be arguing with another student, who seemed a bit muscular with blonde hair. The student with blonde hair was clearly trying to provoke the red-haired boy, and it seemed to be working.

The red-haired boy prepared to fight and had his fists out while the blond boy stood in a defensive position. From watching their stances, I could already tell the red-haired boy would win with his overwhelming raw power. Before the fight began, the ramen shop owner ran out of the store and scolded the two students. Both of them scurried off afraid of receiving a punishment.

Just then an idea on how to get a shit ton of private points popped into my head and the red-haired boy would be the key to my plans. This plan would have to wait a bit though as it required for whatever class he was in to be united. I figured that I could pull off this plan within the next two weeks, but it had to be before other students found out about the class competition.

After deciding on that, I headed into the ramen shop and had a quick bowl of tonkatsu ramen. After that, I headed back to the dorm and slept. After all, I had a full day of chess wagering tomorrow.
