10 Chapter 10

Heading into the student council room, I began thinking of how Class D would react after realizing they got 0 private points this month. The results of the first month were as below.

Class A: 940 / Class B: 650 / Class C: 340 / Class D: 0

They should have realized that the situation they're in right now is terrible. Not only did they have a 20 million point debt, but they also were at 0 points. Currently, I estimate Class D has around 300,000 private points. This means they have 11 months to gain 19,700,000 points or they must gain 450 class points or 45,000 private points each month. Keep in mind this is not impossible, but for Class D, it would be very difficult.

I headed into the student council room, and everyone was already there. I headed to the files to grab my share of the work when Nagumo, the blond-haired boy, spoke up.

"Hey Hikigaya, how many points did Class D gain this month"

I suppressed a laugh while making a 0 with my hands. This time it wasn't the Nagumo, but the president who spoke up in shock.

"They got 0 points...?"

I nodded my head, and Nagumo again spoke.

"I guess your plan is working. You have full control of them. You can order them around if you decrease the debt they owe you."

I nodded my hand and responded.

"I guess having control over a class isn't so bad."

I left the club room and headed towards the library. At this point, I was already a regular as the library assistants knew my name, so I headed towards my usual spot. However, as I neared my corner, I saw a girl with long light-blue hair and dark blue eyes sitting there. She looked like a female lead from one of the many manga I read during my middle school days.

Well, I can just go somewhere else today. I found another secluded spot, put down my books, and started on my student council work. After about 10 minutes the girl who took my spot started approaching me slowly. She wasn't trying to be discreet at all, and once she was close enough, she tapped my shoulder.

I turned around and she immediately started introducing herself.

"Hi, I'm Hyori Shina from Class C. I see you quite often in the library studying or reading books, so I was wondering if we could become friends."

How does this girl have the confidence to introduce herself to me even though I have no idea who she is? I already knew her main purpose, so talking with her more would just waste my time. A beautiful girl like her approaching me out of nowhere was unheard of, it was clear that she was trying to gather information on me from someone else's orders. I had no interest in humoring here.

"Hey, I know you're here to get information. Either watch me from afar, or I'm going to my dorm to study. Alright?"

"..."

Did she really think I didn't know? Her excuse of wanting to make friends was a clear giveaway. I was most curious though as to why she introduced herself to me when she was gathering information. When you're spying, you usually don't interact with your target.

"Ah, I'm sorry. Don't mind me, I'll go back."

I sighed in relief as she left, but right when I was going to get back to studying, a fight broke out in the library. I could see the Class D bums arguing. Sudo was holding the girl with longer black hair by her collar, it was clear they were trying to study for the upcoming midterms.

Our teacher had told us briefly that anyone who failed the midterms would be expelled, and she put the test scores for the "test that didn't mean anything." Everyone in our class was at least 5 points above the failing line, so there was no chaos and everyone kinda just went on with their life. I was top 3 in every subject besides Math and Science. In those subjects, I was top 20, on average, but I was still at least 10 points above the failing line.

Class D on the other hand probably had multiple students under the failing line, and I assumed the 3 boys sitting with the black-haired girl were under the line. However, one thing confused me. Why was the brown-haired kid, who figured out my plan, there with them? I was sure he was smart, so why was he with the failing kids? I assumed he was probably helping teach them.

They were causing a disturbance in the library, so I was thinking about whether to calm them down as a member of the student council. Thankfully, before I could do anything, some members of Class A scolded them for being loud and left. Class A really is the best. I finished up my work and headed back to my dorm to sleep for the night.

After class the next day, I headed towards the student council room again to pick up my work, but when I got there, it seemed that the president was waiting for me. The president got up from his desk and spoke to me when I entered.

"There's been a conflict between Class C and Class D. As general affairs officer, you will essentially be the judge of this trial. I, along with the student council members, will also be there to help you, but you will be meditating and listening to their arguments."

I was shocked. They were allowing me, who had been a student council member for less than a month, already decide on a trial. Why the hell couldn't the student council president do it? Who the hell do they think I am? That guy just definitely doesn't want to deal with the first years, so he handed it to me. Fucking hell. I tried to dispute his words.

"Do you think it's a good idea for me, the person who extorted Class D, to judge a trial a conflict between them and another class? Also, what will the other first years think?"

The student council president seemed to anticipate my reaction as he quickly responded.

"I trust that you'll be unbiased and the first years cannot dispute my judgment. Also, I will be busy"

Ah, so that's the real reason. This guy could have just said he was busy and given it to me, but he decided to do it the roundabout way. I sighed and asked.

"Alright, when is it?"

"The first part of the trial will start tomorrow at 6 and it will go on every day at 6 until you make a judgment. Here's the report made by Class C"

He said that while handing me some papers. It wouldn't take a long time to go over the case file, but at the same time, I was still angry at him for making me do this. Guess this is the cost of information and private points. I grabbed the papers and headed for the exit to leave for the library.

"Alright, make sure to be there on time tomorrow. Nagumo will also be at the hearing to aid you. Don't rely on him though"

I already knew I couldn't rely on that guy the second he started laughing at me. Nagumo said.

"Say Hikigaya, why do you have so much time"

"Well, I don't have any friends, so no time commitments."

"HAHAHHA"

"You already knew this but decided to ask anyway..."

"my bad"

I didn't doubt Nagumo's skills as I could tell he was very intelligent, but his personality was so infuriating. Anyway, I left the student council room and went towards the library to look over the case files to prepare for tomorrow. Today, my usual spot wasn't taken, so I went to sit down. I carefully read over the case files.

The report from Class C accused Yamauchi from Class D of attacking 2 of their students after a basketball practice. According to the report, the 2 students seemed to have received extensive injuries from him. After reading the report, I could easily tell this was a scheme made by Class C. The attack took place in an area with no security cameras, or witnesses, and the only evidence was the damaged bodies of the Class C students.

It was clear to me because I knew that the Class D students were stupid, so they wouldn't have the brain power to bring the Class C students to an area with no cameras and fight there. Instead, like Sudo, they try to hit me without caring about the environment around them. This was my thought process, however, I couldn't be too sure maybe the Class D students learned after what Sudo did.

I still thought that this was all a scheme from Class C, as the Class D students were stupid, but not stupid enough to get into another fight only a month after what I did to them. I had no evidence for my argument, so I couldn't just say that Class C clearly made this up. That would be Class D's job. All I would do is rule on the evidence I saw brought up in the hearing and ignore my thoughts on the matter.

Like clockwork, Hyori, the girl from yesterday, entered the library and began "picking up a book." At this point, I couldn't even tell if she was spying on me or trying to read. Up until this point, I hadn't seen her in the library, so I couldn't confirm her saying that she came to the library often. I decided to just let her continue whatever she was doing whether it was spying or not as this was a public place.

Within 2 hours, I was done with my student council work and studying, so I decided to pick up a book. I headed over to the fiction section. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't gonna pick out a light novel or any anime book, I was completely sick of those after middle school. I decided to just look around as I had no idea what books were good or not.

After looking around for a minute, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Hyori, the girl from earlier. I was curious where her confidence came from, I had told her off harshly yesterday, and even now she was attempting to approach me.

"That book over there is pretty good"

I had no other book recommendations, so I walked towards the bookshelf and grabbed the book she was pointing at.

"Thanks, I'll check it out"

I grabbed the book and headed to the checkout area when Hyori suddenly grabbed my hand. This girl. Really, how does she have so much confidence?

I turned around and looked at her for a confused face until she let go of my hand and said.

"Please let me know what you think of the book when you're done"

She did recommend the book, the least I could do was give her my opinion.

"Alright sure"

I checked out the book and headed out the library towards my dorm.
