New Ways to Kill

"Mouth of Flame!"

The Fire Qi struck the Green Lizard, causing it to be thrown backwards as it burst into flames. When it hit the ground, it was no longer moving.

[Green Lizard killed. 30 xp gained.]

Huan Wei took a deep breath. "That was the last one. I must have gained enough experience points."

It was almost noon. He had been looking for something to kill since dawn. He had used the Mouth of Flame dozens of times. Many times he had to rest. He wanted to make the most of the chance the system had given him to improve his technique.

[First mission completed. You are rewarded with 2 stat points.]

Several cultivators passed by the young man. Everyone was looking for something to fight over. Huan Wei went to a corner and leaned against a tree.

"Stat points," he said to himself. "The first tangible growth the system will offer me."

He opened the system panel and checked. He could upgrade one of his physical stats. Or he could invest in an ability.

That's when Oozing Soul caught his attention. It was one of the abilities that set him apart from an ordinary cultivator in this world. Huan Wei looked at his panel and saw that there were many ways to upgrade it.

"If I could control it better, it would be much more perfect for me."

After a short thought, Huan Wei gave both points to Control.

Oozing Soul was a skill that had the potential to give him limitless possibilities. It allowed him to use his Blood Qi before he had even chosen a path. Huan Wei could see what it saw and hear what it heard. The fact that the soul could fly was also a huge advantage.

"Then it's time to try."

Huan Wei looked around. He had to find a place where other people couldn't see him. The Oozing Soul was something he wanted to keep as a secret trump card.

Finally, he found a spot among the trees and sat down. He closed his eyes and focused. "Oozing Soul."

The blood silhouette rose from his body and began to fly in front of him. When Huan Wei transferred his consciousness to it, he realized that the soul felt different now.

It was easier to move. He no longer flew with a wobble. Even though his movements weren't perfectly sharp, Huan Wei felt as if he had always known how to fly. If Oozing Soul had a mouth, he would have smiled.

He started to rise from the ground. This feeling was very different. He went as high as he could. When he reached the limit of his range, he looked up at the earth.

He could see the forest. He could see young people fighting monsters in many different places, even the town.

"I have come so far from the town," he thought. "I almost went to the central parts of the Eastern Damp Forest. When people come here and start killing every prey they see, it's hard for me to gain experience points."

Huan Wei wanted to test how well he could control the spirit. So he chose a lonely cultivator. The Oozing Soul quickly dived towards him. It didn't have the ability to kill anyone yet, but Huan Wei wasn't planning to.

When the blood silhouette came close to her, the girl dealing with the Forest Bombs saw it. She quickly jumped back. "What is this!?"

She was clearly frightened. She was facing a creature never seen before in the Moist Forest. A creature made of pure blood.

The girl pointed her sword towards him. "Stay away!"

Huan Wei began to slowly approach her. He was already almost at the end of Oozing Soul's range. He couldn't go too far even if he wanted to.

"Tiger Slash!"

The girl rushed forward and swung her sword. The Qi that appeared on both sides of the sword was coming to make three slashes like a claw.

The girl was in the middle phase of the Wanderer Realm. She was a completely ordinary youth. Although she had a sweet face, her expression of fear was more attractive.

Huan Wei wanted to test how much control he had. He moved behind her like a swift current. His Tiger Slash had been in vain.

Swinging her sword, the girl turned around and tried to cut Oozing Soul. The blood silhouette easily dodged it by flowing down.

Huan Wei was quite satisfied. Before the 2 points, he couldn't even fly properly and now he could avoid a cultivator's sword. He could already feel the power the system would give him.

The girl attacked a few more times, but all her attacks were skillfully avoided.

"Tiger Slash!"

The girl circulated her Qi and attacked once more. Huan Wei wanted to try something.

Oozing Soul didn't have the ability to kill someone, yet it was a liquid after all. Although it was made of blood, it had a thicker consistency than blood. A smart person could use it.

Huan Wei flew towards her face instead of running away. Not expecting this, the cultivator raised his sword to defend himself, but Oozing Soul flowed past the sword. It grabbed her head and engulfed her.

The girl, with a sphere of blood on her head, could not breathe. She tried to cut it with her sword, yet her attack went right through the liquid. He could not do any damage to the blood silhouette.

Walking backwards, she tripped over a tree root and fell to the ground. She could not see out because of the color of the blood. When she wanted to shout, she couldn't make a sound. Huan Wei wanted to see where this was going. He was going to kill her, but a voice he heard interrupted his plan.

"Ocean Whip!"

Huan Quon came out of the trees and struck Oozing Soul a powerful blow with the water whip in his hand.

Huan Wei felt that he was really hurt. When Huan Quon was about to deliver another blow, he let go of her and fell to the ground like a puddle of blood. He was no longer using Oozing Soul.

When the blood silhouette was gone, Huan Quon stopped the Ocean Whip and came to the girl who had just been saved from drowning. She was taking deep breaths and was covered in blood.

"Are you all right?" he said as he looked at her. She only nodded slowly.

Meanwhile, Huan Wei got up from where he was meditating. There was a thin trickle of blood at the corner of his mouth. He saw it when he wiped it with the back of his hand.

"Oozing Soul is connected to me despite everything. The damage it has taken is reflected in my physical body. If that fool Huan Quon hadn't come, I could have killed her."

Despite everything, Huan Wei was satisfied. The fact that his attacker was in the middle phase of the Wanderer Realm and almost helplessly dying made him feel Oozing Soul's potential even more.

"For now, I need to heal myself and work on my technique. I should be almost at the peak."

He opened his technique panel and looked at it. He had used the Mouth of Flame many times since the morning. He believed he had made good progress with it too.

"Good. If I stay in the forest until evening, I can get the technique to the top."

But he remembered something he had forgotten. "Chiu Ti... She was going to bring me a pill."

He immediately made a move to get out of the forest. The possibility of any harm coming to Chiu Ti drove him mad. Yet he couldn't convince her. If it was Chiu Ti in his situation, he would have done the same. So he couldn't be angry with her either.

He decided to practice on random rocks as he made his way through the forest. "Mouth of Flame."

He shaped his Fire Qi and sent it out. When the wolf's head hit the rock, it caused part of it to shatter with a small explosion.

There were countless techniques in the World of Cultivation. Countless uses of Qi meant countless lives for cultivators to choose from.

Huan Wei had chosen elemental techniques. For him, the most tangible form of Qi was the most powerful. There were countless elements in the world. Each one had the potential to grant great powers to its users. There were techniques like the Mouth of Flame that could explode stones, as well as techniques that could tear down mountains.

The girl Huan Wei attacked had chosen martial techniques. A simple technique like the Tiger Slash could slash multiple times with a single sword stroke. But Huan Wei had also heard of techniques that could bring down a giant sword from the sky and destroy its enemies.

Not every use of Qi was visible to the eye. Some techniques could only be controlled with the mind, and would effect on it. Huan Wei had never seen one of these, yet he could imagine how powerful they could be. They were probably not easy to get them.

The young man used the Mouth of Flame many times until he left the forest. When he finally left and arrived in town, he set out to meet Chiu Ti.

But he noticed something. There was something strange about the way people looked at him. They were looking at him while whispering to each other. Huan Wei couldn't make sense of it at first. Yet then someone came up to him, made him understand everything.

"Huan Wei!"

The young man looked at the bald young man in front of him. He was the same height as him. Huan Wei recognized him.

"Ran Wuzou," he said as he looked at him, "What do you want?"

"You will account for what you did to Ran Qianfan."

Huan Wei looked into his eyes disinterestedly. The whole crowd was watching them.
