Consumption of Worlds

The gods have vanished. The bridges between the worlds were severed. The races were left separated and struggling to survive. Then, they learned to live without their gods... One race in particular excelled far above the rest, the ancients. Then, the gods suddenly returned, weakened on their doorstep. Their previous good relationship was severed, and the gods were captured by the ancients. With this, the ancients created a devious game to conquer unsuspecting worlds, and subjugate them before they have a chance to properly grow. The Hex Trials. Eventually, they commanded the cosmos and all the races in it. They allowed their fellow races to become their brethren as they looked to new horizons. But they awoke the great Auclair, the god of death. A monster who once ate half the universe in rage. A being that the gods had tried so desperately to seal in the depths of the universe. -- Cover is temporary and I hope you enjoy the story. If so, maybe put it in your library, and if you really enjoy it, maybe even give it a power stone. It really helps, especially since this is for a contest. I'd really appreciate it! I'm trying for a 1 chapter per day schedule.

Tidus Industries

Yohr appeared in a tiny alley across the street from the address he was given. He slowly walked forward and looked at the security surrounding the skyscraper's walls.

He hummed slightly as he tallied up all the people and cars. It was practically an army. Unlike most of the cramped buildings in the city, this one had breathing space. Around the building was a large gate and fence. Past it, one could see the large building soaring past all the others in height.

Yohr's hand went to his back pocket and he pulled out a handgun and checked it's ammunition. He simply had a twelve round magazine and nothing else. He pulled the slide back, racking a round, and made sure the safety was on before holstering it.

The ancient that he was supposed to kill was currently having a talk with the various shareholders of her company. Despite being in a war with the Boss, they were still incredibly successful. Now Yohr knew why it had taken so long to even slightly win against the ancient.

The shareholder meeting itself was being broadcast to the internet so all of the shareholders could watch it if they wanted, or if they needed to review any footage.

This meant that Yohr needed to cover his face. Whether fortunately or unfortunately for him, this wasn't the first job he had done since arriving on the planet. He slipped on a hand-carved wooden mask that he had been given by the Boss. Where the boss got it, Yohr had no clue, nor did he care.

He vanished from his spot and went to the farthest location he could around halfway up the building, consuming a large amount of energy in the process. He appeared in an empty hall that had its lights off. He drew his gun and walked around looking for an elevator.

He turned a corner to see a guard looking at their holographic phone nonchalantly. Hearing footsteps they looked up in fear that their boss had seen him. Instead he saw Yohr aiming the gun at him.

The guard froze in fear and quickly raised his hands. Yohr slowly walked forward without uttering a word, he just kept his gun aimed at the man.

"What do you want?" The man managed to mutter.

"Elevator." Yohr answered simply.

"You need a keycard." The man licked his lips as sweat began to form on his forehead.

"…" Yohr remained silent and arrived before the man, just far enough where he could fire upon him if they lunged.

"I-I have one. It's here- next to my gun."

The guard slowly began lowering their arm. Their hand hovered next to their gun and trembled. He licked his lips again with a suppressed exhale and grabbed the keycard.

He pulled on it before unclipping it from their hip. They extended their shaking hand and Yohr looked at the card.

"What's the access?"

"You can get almost anywhere."

"Except?" Yohr glared behind the mask.

"The office on the top floor. I don't have access to that, most guards don't. Only Miss Ewing's most trusted personal have access. They've got their access chips in their head, so you won't be able to get them either." The guard explained with a gulp.

Yohr tapped the card and it disappeared into his pocket inside his jacket. The guard's eyes went wide at the sight, but Yohr quickly touched the man's hand.

A fountain of blood erupted from their wrist where the guard's hand used to be. His body spasmed as the hand suddenly found itself shoved into the middle of the man's skull. Flesh and bone mixed wildly as his head was forced to expand and the man crumpled with blood flooding the floor.

Yohr walked over the body and entered the elevator after waiting for it to arrive. He looked at the keycard and tapped it against the reader before pressing the second highest floor.

He didn't even bother trying the top floor as he trusted the guard enough. It also didn't matter. The elevator started going up silently as Yohr felt his body get weighed down a little from it's speed.

He looked up at the corner and saw a small camera looking back at him. The only thing that could be seen were Yohr's tired eyes and the eerie mask. The elevator stopped and the door's started opening. Yohr teleported onto the elevator's top before the doors opened all the way.

"Did someone call an elevator?"

"I didn't."

"Guess someone pressed the wrong button and got off earlier then."

Yohr heard some people talking on the floor underneath him as he looked across the wide elevator shaft. Although Yohr didn't have much experience with the technology of the world yet, even something like the elevator shaft was enough to impress to him.

He turned and saw the floor above him with a fancy elevator door with engravings on it. It seemed like none of the elevators could reach it normally, instead if the person in the elevator had access, the elevator would head all the way up, then go on a different track. From there it'd go across to the door.

Yohr clicked off the safety on his gun and prepared himself. He had decided to just kill the ancient, he could sense too many people on the other side of the door.

"I believe that concludes our meeting. Record high profits and the knowledge of how to soar even further. Now that the Iron Syndicate is a direct contractor, our weapons and munitions have secured additional funding. The R&D department will obviously experiment with creating better weapons, and of course, our more secretive projects will continue development. I am confident that Tidus Industries will lead the future ladies and gentlemen."

Miss Ewing said to the few shareholders sitting across from her. She looked at the camera as the majority of the shareholders weren't there and raised a glass. The others gently clapped with satisfied expressions.

"I've got a question." The clapping was suddenly cut off however when someone in the back raised their hand. They were looking at a screen sitting on their lap.

"Yes?" Ewing asked with a raised brow.

"Well," the man looked up and pushed up their glasses, "these, 'secretive' projects of yours. Is their any information that you can disclose?"

"Naturally, due to the volatile and insidious industry, as well as the rapid firing nature of our finest engineers, plans are created and fall apart quickly. They are given a blank check and are asked for a certain level of results every quarter, besides that they are left to their own devices." Ewing answered.

"I see. Is there any project that you can discuss then? A project that is perhaps further along in development, maybe close to release?" The man continued pressuring her.

Ewing's eyes narrowed.

"Who might you be exactly?"

"A concerned shareholder. Leaks are common in certain circles, and I happen to stumble upon them frequently. Let's just say that the leaks I've been recently hearing about are somewhat vile."

"I wouldn't believe everything you hear." Ewing said with a smile.

"So I take it that the reports I've been hearing about a certain, 'Ouroboros Project' are false?"

Ewing's smile slowly faded as a sour taste emerged in her mouth. She placed her drink on the table and stood. She looked at the man and opened her mouth. That's when another man suddenly appeared in the room by the elevator.

His head was slightly tilted and he lazily held his gun by his side.

"Guards!" Ewing yelled, but those by the elevator had already reacted.

A guard threw themselves at Yohr as he lifted his gun. He fired a round towards the only woman there, Miss Ewing, but missed as she ducked to the ground behind the table.

The guard that threw themselves at Yohr made contact with him but exploded into a pile of blood, splattering all over the wall. Yohr walked forward with his eyes focusing on Ewing and almost completely ignored the rest.

The other guards drew their pistols and opened fire on Yohr. The shareholders scrambled away with nervous expressions and one accidentally knocked over the camera.

When the bullets made contact with Yohr, he was completely unaffected. Instead, the guards who had shot the rounds found the bullets crashing into the back of their skulls. Yohr continued forward while looking towards Ewing.

His teleportation ability was starting to wear thin so when more guards launched themselves at him, he stopped teleporting them back into themselves, which is how they exploded. Instead he took their blows without much difficulty.

He grabbed one man and slammed his neck over the back of a metal chair resulting in a dull crack. The next man was kicked in the knee so hard that the bone was sent through the back. The third, Yohr grabbed their jaw and pulled them towards the floor. While they laid on the floor, Yohr stepped on their chest to pin them down and pulled his jaw out.

Afterwards, Yohr turned back and raised his gun. He had eleven bullets left and the other guards with guns were hesitant to fire. The gruesome sight of their comrade's effectively killing themselves kept playing in their minds.

Yohr turned his ability back on and began firing at the remaining guards. He killed some, the others forced to shoot at him killed themselves.

After he was done, Yohr had counted his fired rounds and found himself with only three bullets left. The room laid in disarray as pools of blood grew larger and larger. Some of the windows had shattered from stray bullets, the high winds at the building's height caused the loose papers to go flying. Yohr walked casually through the destruction and arrived before Ewing.

She was backing up towards a shattered window, resulting in her hair blowing wildly in the wind.

He lowered the gun and aimed it at her head. She sent out a kick which resulted in her leg exploding into mush. It did, however, stop Yohr from firing his gun momentarily. In that moment, a searing heat burned through his flesh.

From out the window he saw a wide laser that came from another rooftop. It seemed to be some sort of laser rifle and it burned right through Yohr's shoulder. He grew angry that he didn't sense the disturbance in the space and that the laser was currently stronger than his ability.

Yohr staggered back at the sudden development as the laser fired again, cutting through the gun in Yohr's hand, burning the hand in the process. Yohr cursed and jumped out the window.

The laser disappeared and quickly reappeared following him down the building. He teleported inside to stop his free fall and slammed into the floor.

Yohr cursed in pain as the outer glass melted and the laser cut into the floor, following Yohr closely. He threw himself behind a pillar and teleported to a few floors underneath. Despite being multiple floors down, when he peaked his head out, it was nearly severed by the scorching heat.

He couldn't help but curse again. There must've been a way that they were tracking him. But considering the level that technology had reached, he was sure that there were multiple ways.

And he was right, there was thermal, surveillance, sound, and more tracking him.

Seeing that Yohr wasn't moving, the sniper began centering the laser on the pillar and slowly burning through it. Yohr gritted his teeth as he felt his back begin to heat up. He then made a decision.

He teleported into the elevator shaft, specifically into an elevator that was heading down. The elevator was crowded with regular workers who jumped back in fright at the bloody Yohr. They covered their noses upon smelling the burnt clothes and flesh.

Yohr ignored the people and when the elevator got close to the bottom floor, he teleported out of it. They had been evacuating the building so there were tons of people shuffling about on the lower floors. Yohr appeared on the opposite side of the building from the sniper and began walking to the window.

Upon reaching it, he had many people watching him in shock. Yohr continued to ignore them as he grabbed a chair and tossed it out the window. Not a moment later, guards burst into the room from the stairway but were blocked by the onslaught of people.

Yohr jumped out of the building and quickly headed towards the pavement. He teleported when he reached the ground, and using the stored momentum, he sent himself flying into the air near the exit of the compound. When he reached the apex of the jump's height, he teleported again across the street and onto the ground.

He quickly began running through the streets as the guards settled into cars and began following him. As Yohr got further away from the building, their means of tracking grew less and less. Until eventually they could only see him by sight.

Since that was the case, when Yohr teleported next, they called off the chase. The chase did leave Yohr in a sorry state nevertheless as his already weak body was now also heavily injured.

He didn't even managed to finish his job either.

He bit his cheek and cursed.

Late chapter because I’m horrible at managing my time, as you've probably noticed. Also, I meant to make the ancient a woman and I’m now noticing I gave them he/him pronouns last chapter, oops. I’ll fix it.
