1 Chapter-1

"Ugh," I groaned annoyingly at the sound of the alarm, shifting my body slightly on my somewhat comfortable mattress. Trying to lift my body off the bed and stretching my arms a little.

"Today, My first day as a sophomore. What a drag" I signed, standing in front of the closet, hands crossed trying to look for something decent to wear. After a few minutes of searching, I found a simple red sweater which would probably look good with a blue skirt. Once I was done with my search I collected all the required necessities and hopped into the bathroom, taking a quick shower, completing my morning routine, and finally, after a good 30 minutes, I was good to go. I quickly descended the staircase only to meet my dad who was singing some 80's love song holding a large spoon using it to impersonate a microphone.

"Morning Dad, What's with the song today? " I greeted, making my way towards the dining table where my dad had already set the table with mouth-watering looking pancakes, Orange juice, and a few fruit bars for a moody brunch.

"Morning Mia, How is my sweetheart doing today?" Dad smiled lovingly, but something felt a bit out of space. NO! don't get me wrong, as soothing and satisfying as it seems, Dad looks unexpectedly a little too happy, and let's not forget that song as well.

I sat down on my chair, picking up a fork, stuffing a huge bite of pancake in my mouth, eyeing my dad looking for answers for his unexpected behavior, and then there was the awkward moment of silence.

"Am I suppose to know something?" I questioned, breaking the silence. I see my dad trying to look at anything that isn't me.

"Um... I'm thinking of getting married" were the words that left my dad's mouth. My mom died in an accident when I was 5 years old and till now it had always been me and my dad. We both tried our best to cover up the missing love and presence by supporting each other in both highs and lows.

"Oh, my God!" I shrieked.

"Is it Mrs.Scarlet the one you have been dating for a while now?" I asked

"Yes," dad replied with his head looking down in embarrassment. He looked like a young maiden in love.

"Hey dad, tell me more. I'm curious " I teased but deep down I had a million doubts. I have never in my life understood the concept of love beyond friendship and parental ones. I simply hope that everything works out.

"Later ok, and sorry to break it to you but you have to go now, or else you're going to be late for school young lady" He chuckled.

"Oh shit! Hannah should be waiting at the bus stop" I exclaimed, taking my bag, yelling a quick goodbye, dashing towards the front door, and finally rushing towards the direction of the bus stop.

After a few minutes of the worst possible morning workout routine. I saw Hannah waving at me at about 100 ft distance. I quickly made my way towards her and tried to catch my breath after the run.

"Right on time, President" commented Hannah followed by a whistle. I glared at her annoyingly, which she replied with a grin showing her teeth.

"Correction: I'm not the president. I'm a part of the student body and the worst of it is that I hold the lowest position among the other members and matter of fact, why the hell does our college require a student body any way it's not like we're in high school or something" I signed.

Rosemary 4 year degree college, famously known for being an all-rounder college excelling in many different aspects which may include sports, academics, and other extra-curricular activities. Every year the principal selects a sophomore based on their academic performance during freshman year along with 2 juniors and 3 seniors to make a student council.

"Whatever you say, Mia" Hannah replied before the bus arrived at the bus stop and stood right in front of us. Both of us got in and made our way to the nearest free seat, after settling down on the window seat with Hannah next to me I let out a huge breath, placing my arm on the window panel and resting my face on my palm looking out the window feeling the breeze.

"You look like you want to bid farewell to the world" Laughed Hannah

"That's not a bad idea" I replied trying to be as expressionless as possible.

"Come on, Mia, live a little. Aren't you excited? it's the opening ceremony for incoming freshman, maybe one or two could catch your eye, or do you want to remain a virgin forever?"

"That's not your business!" I exclaimed angrily

Hannah simply laughed and got back to whatever the hell she had been doing on her phone. Sure, it's not like I hate dating or something. I just don't find any meaning in going to cafes, parties, dates, holding hands, or kisses. During my years at high school, I heard millions of stories of breakup and cheating. Why are you so eager to love someone when you already know that there is not always a happy ending?

"Hannah" I called

"Wassup?" she replied, switching the power button on her iPhone and tucking it in her jeans pocket.

"My dad is going to get married, " I said. I and Hannah have been friends since we were in 5th grade. There is absolutely nothing that we both do not know about each other. Hannah had always been outgoing and friendly unlike me who always has that resting bitch face.

"Cool! good for Mr. Miller" She replied. Before I could reply the bus stopped and the other passengers were descending down. We later got down the bus and made our way towards the campus's main entrance maintaining a moderate pace. Generally looking around for unfamiliar faces in my field of vision, briefly enjoying my stroll, minding my own business and suddenly being pushed to the ground.

"What the fuck?" I yelled, before Hannah giving me a hand and helping me back on my feet. I look around to find the so-called daring person to bump into me and run off without an apology. From the corner of my eye, I see a large group of women shrieking and jumping in excitement.

"What? Is Justin Beiber here or something?" I frowned my eyebrows and questioned.

"Looks like it, Wanna go check that out?" Hannah replied with a laugh. I simply nodded and we then started walking towards the annoying herd of women. A few feet away from me, I could see a fairly tall man with black hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. He also wore complete black and a fancy looking leather jacket which added more look to this bad boy persona. He was indeed handsome and thus far more reasons for me to stay away from him.

"Ain't this too cliche?" I said.

"No kidding! Must be a freshman, never seen him here before" Hannah replied. I simply sighed and started walking in the opposite direction of the crowd. After a few steps, I heard my phone ring.

"Who is it?" Questioned Hannah

"Nick" I whispered

"Hey Mia"

"Hey, Nick Wassup?"

"I have a favor"

"What is it?"

"The vice president cannot attend today's freshman orientation due to some family issues, So I was wondering if you could attend it instead of him. Don't worry you just have to read a speech nothing more. Counting on you thanks" He said and quickly hunged up the phone before I could reply.

"That bastard" I muttered clearly pissed.

"What was it?" Hannah questioned curiously.

"Stupid speech and stupid orientation," I replied. Hannah got the message and decided not to pry or say anything else regarding it.

"This is going to be a long day" I groaned.
