Chapter 4

Title: Leveling Up

The chemistry classes with the professor were simple; he just had to follow along, watch the same lesson several times, and in the end, report what new he learned from the same lesson. It was super boring, but since it was only two days a week, it wasn't too disturbing.

He reached a point where the chemistry professor informed him that he should review the material before each class.

Then I entered a content crisis to report, and if I said that I didn't learn anything new, he wouldn't give me a break; at night, he gave me the same lesson until I had learned something new or had a relevant question. "Hmm."

Next, on Wednesdays, I had classes with the medicine teacher; she gave me mountains of books, and after reading the books, I had to orally summarize each book. So far, no problem.

The place was cool, had plenty of good food, I didn't need to do anything other than read. The only problem was the medicine teacher; every time I looked at her, I felt like I was wasting my life, she was beyond scary.

And on Sundays, I had classes with the biology professor; almost all classes were practical and seemed to be the most normal.

In summary, Thales studied every day of the week without interruptions.

A year passed, yet I still hadn't adapted.

°°°•••

Thales woke up with dark circles; his room was filled with books, and the walls were covered with papers. He had definitely lost weight.

He looked at the sorry state he was in.

There was nothing to do but accept it. He went to school; every student who passed by him he knew their names and faces. It was a very unpleasant thing.

"Today we are going to change our teaching method," said the chemistry professor.

"How are we going to proceed?" Thales knew it wouldn't be something that would lessen his workload.

"We are going to double everything."

Thales used to take advantage of the chemistry professor's classes to rest; now, with this decision, without a doubt. (I'm going to die of exhaustion.) He thought.

On Wednesday, he met with the medicine teacher.

"A lot has happened, I will be away for a long time." He seemed sad.

"Teacher, where are you going?" Thales asked, concerned.

"I am going to help investigate a newly discovered territory; there are things that need my presence."

"I will miss you."

(I hope you don't come back) Thales was seriously thinking about it.

"I know, you will miss me, but don't worry, I will leave you a lot of assignments; I even made many videos explaining a lot of things. When I come back, I want you to recite everything as if you were reciting your name."

"...."

It was super dangerous to stay silent for a long time in front of that woman.

"I will do my best."

She stood up and looked Thales in the eyes; she gave a very poor smile as if she were an innocent child.

"You must do your best."

Thales remained silent. "You know, yesterday I was watching a very good movie, although I forgot; a boy gets trapped inside a whale."

Thales remained silent; he knew where this story was going. "If you don't keep your promise, I will put you in a glass capsule and throw you as bait for a space whale."

"And you won't come out where you entered; it will be from the other side. The good thing about the story is that you will completely lose how the digestion of space whales works. Oh, I will be helping you and the biology professor."

"I heard they usually do their business semi-annually."

Thales looked like a statue.

He knew that, regardless of the results, he would end up in the stomach of the space whale. The only thing he could do was to reduce the time he would spend inside the whale's stomach.

°°°•••

Even though he was forced to attend the same class countless times, even though he was compelled to read uninteresting books, even without rest on weekends, Thales did not give up; he continued to endure his infernal classes.

He kept on learning every day; there were many new things.

Time passed.

Thales was swallowed by the space whale.

Thales was traumatized.

Time passed.

Thales missed the biology class coincidence.

Thales freaked out in one of the chemistry classes.

Thales knelt down and begged for a vacation...

His request was rejected, and everything was doubled...

Thales exceeded his teachers' expectations...

His teachers were proud...

A new being was born...

°°°•••

Thales grew a little; his height was already approaching that of an adult, his hair was long.

"Good morning." He headed to school, but this time not to the chemistry teacher's room or to have classes with the medicine teacher; he had reached a stage where he would have classes with them once a month.

He thought that because of this, his life expectancy had increased.

He entered a room that looked like a laboratory. "I never get tired of this place."

He was alone there, so he didn't hesitate to talk to himself. "After this, I increase this a bit more, shake it a bit more, and it's done." He mixed substances that were in the laboratory in a flask.

Then, he drank the liquid. "Tastes like milk."

"Failure." He was conducting experiments; that room seemed to be his sanctuary.

A month passed, and he entered the laboratory; there were not many flasks as in the beginning.

"I ran out of raw materials." He lamented.

He just conducted tests without realizing the management of laboratory materials.

"I'll ask the vampire for some money; I hope he accepts." He lamented again.

"Who is the vampire?"

"The person who doesn't know who the vampire is? The vam--" To whom was he responding?

He realized he was responding something reflexively, so he turned to see who had asked the question.

"Woof!" Thales was startled; the person there was the woman who was always with the vampire, a person who didn't like him much.

The dislike was mutual.

"Woof?" The woman repeated while tilting her head.

"Yes, Woof, my good friend Woof, he thinks he's a vampire, but I don't want to talk about other people's syndromes."

"Can Woof be a person's name? But whatever, I'll see you around." The woman seemed irritated. (He reminds me of someone.) She thought.

When the woman left Thales's field of vision, he sighed. "I thought my source of money would dry up."

The woman left the school, and Thales should take advantage of this moment to ask for money. If she told the principal that she heard him call someone a vampire, mentioned asking for money, obviously anyone would know he was referring to the principal.

He didn't know what the director could do; maybe he wouldn't buy any more supplies for his experiments. What would he do if that happened? So he rushed to the director's office.

"Important information:

If we look at Thales, he failed several times, and that doesn't make sense if we look at the lifespan of a normal human being.

Thales is not abnormal; it's just that the world of Confluence has this nature.

Clarifying the information, in Confluence, a person is considered an adult when they reach 10 decades of life."
