1 Keep Calm at all costs!!

INTRODUCTION

Myself Dr.Indu,28years old working in a multispeciality hospital in outskirts of Mumbai( a metropolitan city in India) I'm writing few of my crazy confessions here which I can't say as a Doctor on duty(but I really want to smack those faces 😑)

At night shift:

3.15am

A man in his 40's enters the ER department with his wife in her 30's.

My mind: Both are looking normal,no sign of breathlessness or any injuries over body. May be they came to visit someone here in ER.

Man(calmly): Madam,my wife can't speak.

Me: (turned to see her with a dumb face) Oh! So what is her problem now?

Man: She woke up now saying she can't speak. And saying it's all because of fish bone stuck in her throat.

Me: (worried and looked at the sister and signed to call an ent doctor on duty and check whether general physician is free for consultation now) How much time has passed since this happened?

My mind in background thinking how can this happen? with a fish bone it can injure recurrent laryngeal nerve on one side but not on both sides... So this aphasia(loss of speech) may be due to disturbance in higher center in brain...she is in 30's...so may be undiagnosed hypertension causing hemorrhage in brain?? or any thrombosis? is her heart ok? is she on any oral contraceptives(likely to cause thrombosis as a side effect in few people) or any other coagulopathies? oh my god..this will take half a day for investigations...

Man:since 10min..

My mind in background: oh they stay near to hospital..it's good. the sooner the better prognosis..

Me: when did she eat fish?

Man: A month ago.

Me: Fcuk!!(Can't say it loud..so these both need a psychiatrist)

With a smile on my face...oh..ok. we'll do a ct of neck and brain to exclude some pathology..before making a diagnosis and a indirect laryngoscopy before that to see if there are any foreign bodies stuck in her(go to hell both of you!!)

My mind in background..it happens often..don't get worked up.
