a small flame flicker in the darkness lighting up the room "where are we?" pam asked.she held a match in her paw and moved it around slowly, trying to light up the area around her.

"l think we are locked in the basement",vi answered " pam,where did you find those matches?"

"At the restaurant we eat in last night", Pam replied."lt seems like every restaurant here in Russia has a bowl of Matchbooks near the exit. I have a last five in my pocket!"

she passed one to each of her friends. How clever of you to save them", Colette said gratefully. Let's be sure not to burn our fur Nicky replied.

"of course," Colette said reassuringly "we will be careful."

" Excuse me", squeaked a soft voice.Can i have a match,too?"

"Of course, Sergei," Pam replied, and she passed him one.

"we need to find a way out of here quickly," Paulina said.She held her light up to the wall and began to push cautiously on them with her free paw

"I know this place",Sergei said suddenly.

"l came here a few Times when I was doing a summer intership at the laboratory. This is where the scientist keep old documents and instruments they do not use anymore.

"We are in the storage room in the basement of the laboratory, then", vi confirmed.

"Yes", Sergei said."the door is always locked, and you need to punch a code into the digital key pattern to get in an out".

"do you know the code?" nicky asked.

"No, l am afraid not,"Sergei replied." l only know the code to enter the lab. this one must be different."

"Maybe someone will find us," pam said, sighing.

But Vi shook her head. "Today is Saturday she said. " the lab will be deserted until Monday. we cannot stay locked down here for two days while Irina is in danger!"

"yes, and I could really use some fresh air," nicky squeaked anxiously.

"she doesn't like small spaces," Vi explained quietly to Sergei.

"Nicky, just focus on breathing in and breathing out," Colette coached her friend gently." If we all stay clam, we will be fine."

" good advice, coco ( Colette pet name) Vi said encouragingly. But even as spoke,Vi began to wonder: How had their vacation in Moscow taken such a dark turn?
