147 Nothing Is Absolutely Reliable

Nathan Yang looked at each and every one of their faces, to make sure they realize the gravity of his question.

"The bases would seem like a symbol of hope and salvation for the survivors, but once the population exceeds its capacity, certain problems will emerge. Those people who came first will definitely form their own groups while people that are still outside like you guys, will have a hard time settling in since the base can only hold a limited number of people. No doubt, there would be chaos."

"Since it's like that, then why are we going there?" Mizuki Rei said.

"Ah. Shut it. I'm getting to that. Didn't your teachers taught you to listen in class?"

Mizuki Rei tensed up. This Nathan Yang was just as annoying as his female twin!

"Anyway, what was I saying? Ah yes, The more people there are, the more resources will be reduced. If people went on a riot, there would simply be nothing that the government can do. Especially, since some humans have awakened as ability users and have become arrogant. It is really fortunate that God has not forsaken humanity and has given us the means to fight and survive, but these ability users are very few in numbers. Their attitude is a little problematic but the government is trying their 'best' to control these people so that life in the base wouldn't be as chaotic."

"Unfortunately, they might be useful in fending off mutants but they have become one of the problems in the base up north. There might be a leader managing the base but the guy in charge did not have any abilities. Moreover, that Ye guy, he might be a good person but he lacks the leadership and manpower to reign in these troublemakers."

"Wait, are you talking about that Ye Yu guy from before?" Fu Yangzhu could not forget about that guy's face at the moment. What attitude!

Nathan Yang waved his hand dismissively. "No. It was Ye Yu's half-brother, Ye Ling. They weren't close but at the very least, they share a blood connection which makes that guy twice as annoying as usual. Anyway, in an era where power seems the most important, who would listen to Ye Ling? Although he is a retired Colonel, he is already old so it wasn't a surprise that he was unable to manage the base properly. Along with that, there was already a continuous decrease in resources, as well as chaos and a lack of order in that base.

"I'm not sure if you've heard of this story but in ancient times, there was a village that was flooded. The flood broke the way outside and everyone got trapped inside. The whole village did not have anything to eat and it finally reached the point where people would eat other people. This was exactly what happened to the base up north."

"I know people have become crazy because of the lack of order in society, but I didn't think they would be this crazy!" Mizuki Rei felt a chill in his spine.

"Ugh.. disgusting. No matter what happens, I'd never stomach that kind of thing. Now I feel fortunate of my ability." Fu Yangzhu felt extremely relieved at that moment. He was even willing to eat grass if it really comes down to it!

"You little kids are really cute." Nathan Yang said, changing his mind. This sentence didn't seem sincere because his face was still as stoic as ever. This was more like an insult.

"After the military base was established and enforced, they decided to reach out to the base up north but when the soldiers arrived, they were ambushed and were almost killed by people. Of course, not all people resorted to such extreme means, some still escaped and tried to found other means to survive.

"If they were lucky, they would reach another base with a more secure environment or if they were unlucky, they could get eaten by those mutants outside. Some also went on their own way and established their own groups. You know...I used to like dogs but there was a puppy I saw a few days ago. It tried to bite my finger off. And I thought they were cute but even animals have become monsters. I saw one eating a human corpse. Not only did humans changed, but even these small creatures did.

"And those people who left the base might have been eaten by whatever kind of mutants because the military was only able to save less than 1,000 people from that base. No matter, big or small, no one can be trusted. So don't expect much at the base and don't take it as a permanent refuge. Remember that nothing is absolutely reliable in this era. If you want to survive, you still have to rely on yourself in the end."
