20 Twenty

She had been hugging me for a while now, I didn't stop her. I looked at the time and it was twenty-five minutes past four, Dylan was right, I was still here at her house and it was past four pm.

"Ann?" I called but she didn't reply so I tried to know why she wasn't answering, because her face was buried In my torso, I could not tell if she was asleep or not, she was not a snorer.

I lifted her face away from myself a little, she was sleeping. I moved some of her dark hair covering her face backwards, so they didn't bother her and so she could breath better. Her roommate walked into the room, she looked at me for a while, with the way Ann's arms were around me.

"Are you Jerry?" She whispered.

"Yeah?"

"She told me about a Jerry." She smiled coming closer and helping to remove Ann's arm which were almost too tight for me to separate without waking her up.

With her hands no longer around me, it was easier to make her lie back on the bed. I arranged her pillows gently, so she could be more comfortable.

I started my way out the room and I could hear her roommate walking behind me. I wondered if Lily was also a year one student because I've never seen her in any of our general courses lectures, not like I would know because I have been looking around for her or anything but you'd expect that she would sit with Ann. I could swear, I have never for once seen her seat next to Ann. I heard her lock the door after I left their apartment.

Humming the tune to a song in my head, I hurried up the stairs when I got back to my lodge. After I knocked, I could hear Dylan walking to open the door. When he opened the door and was about to say something, a girl walked up to me. She was standing and leaning on the wall before.

"Hey, can I talk to you?" She asked me.

"Me?" I asked just to be sure it was me she was actually referring to because I didn't know who she was. It wasn't like I knew everyone who stayed in this lodge but I knew some faces, at least I was familiar with those whose room doors shared the same hallway with mine and Dylan's.

"Yeah, you." She nodded with a smile.

"Me?" I asked again pointing to myself.

"Yes." She chuckled.

Dylan rolled his eyes and walked back inside, closing the door even though it didn't shut. I bet he was all ready to talk about him being right earlier when he said I would overstay at Ann's.

"Okay." I shrugged at her, waiting to hear what she had to say but she wasn't starting. She was just standing there in front of me, smiling. She had dyed her hair pink and violet, with the pink and the base. She was wearing makeup, that I wouldn't describe as too much because it looked beautiful on her face. She still wasn't saying anything so I waved my palm in front of her and she giggled.

"Sorry, I was just....never mind." She said in between giggles.

"You wanted to talk right?" I asked her without smiling back, she was kind of wasting my time by making me stand here with her, I still had to attempt those questions that the math lecturer gave us and I was starving.

"Yeah," She said and I watched her inhale deeply and loudly before continuing, "Uhm, I'm Jessica but you can call me Jessie, it's what my friends call me."

"Okay?" I wanted her to continue because she stopped talking like she wanted me to say something.

"You are Jerry right?"

"Yeah, yeah I am."

"It's good I know your name, I mean you didn't look like you were planning on introducing yourself right now." She laughed shortly and I had to join her smile on this one, she was right, I wasn't even thinking of it.

"Okay Jessica, I'm Jerry," I introduced myself formally now, maybe she would go on with what she wanted to say.

"Jessie."

"Huh?" I didn't understand what she meant.

"Jessie, call me Jessie." She smiled again after explaining.

"Okay Jessie, look, I don't have plenty of time to stand here with you....." I wanted to let her know.

"I'm wasting your time?" She asked with her smile gone.

"No," I said not wanting to be rude,"Yes," I realized that it was better if I was honest with her. "Look, I have things to do but you could go on straight to the point?" I suggested to her.

"Okay." She nodded repeatedly. "Uhm, so like I've mentioned, I'm Jessie, I stay at room 20A, we share the same hallway....."

"Really?" I stopped her from rushing her words, really surprised that we did share the same hallway because I could swear I've never seen her.

"Yeah," She nodded, pointing to the beginning of the hallway on the 2nd floor, where we stood now. "My room's just over there."

"I know, I know where room 20A is, I just passed there, I just....wow, I haven't seen you by chance."

"Well, that's why I'm here, introducing myself." She smiled at me again.

"Sooo?"

"I.....I, do you have a girlfriend?" I heard her ask after fumbling with her words.

"What?"

"I want to know if you have a girlfriend." She said again looking at me directly.

"Why are you asking?" I needed to know. Did this have anything to do with Ann? Is she her friend? Ann did once say that she came here to pick up a friend for class, was she(Jessie) the friend?

"I just..." She stopped and looked away for a while before turning back to me, with a deep exhalation this time.

"You just?" I said wanting her to continue.

"It's just that I like you."

"Hmmn?" I heard her but that was just me expressing surprise at what she just said. She liked me? I didn't even know her.

"I like you." She repeated.

"Oh." I found myself saying.
