The System

When I woke up again, I noticed I was inside what seemed like a big cylinder. I noticed my mouth and nose were covered by an oxygen respirator. Probably to allow me to breathe while inside the cylinder tank that was filled with yellow liquid.

After getting out of it, I was told to dress. And after dressing up, I was guided inside a room where I met the woman in a black suit again. It was the same woman who I met in the white room a while ago.

This time she wasn't wearing sunglasses anymore. I could see her almond-blue eyes. She seemed to be half Asian due to her dark brown hair color and half Western due to her eye color.

She exuded a mature and aloft demeanor.

When I was heading here, my mind was muddled up and I was in my subconscious state. But when I entered the room, I regained my clear mind but I found myself inside a room that seemed like an office.

This time she introduced herself.

"I am Manager Sai Grayhams…"

Grayhams? Sounds like a Western name. And Sai, huh? A combination of Western and Eastern names. I see. So probably my initial guess about her origin was right.

I don't really care about her, but I guess it's better to remember that name from now on.

She was interlocking her fingers under her chin.

She asked me how I felt.

I answered honestly without a second thought. I told her that sometimes there was a slight prickly pain in my head.

Honestly, I felt worried by the fact they opened my head. I don't know what they did inside it. But when I touched my head, there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary aside from the slight prickly pain.

It gave me an awful feeling. I wanted to report it to the police as soon as possible.

'This organization is very dangerous.' But I had no idea how to escape there, so I decided to go along with them temporarily.

"I see. The pain is a minor side effect. Although the operation was a success, that program we installed to you was just an undiscarded sample data after all. Since it's just sample data, the possibility of it containing glitches and errors that could endanger your life is high, so surviving the operation with only a minor side effect is a big miracle. You should be grateful for your high mental strength. Honestly, I am very surprised."

I frowned at her words. Did she think I would be happy by her compliment? Hell no! They gambled my life to such a high-risk operation, how could I be happy about that?!

Gritting my teeth internally, I wanted to attack her at that moment. However, I didn't know what would happen to me after I did that.

Therefore, I had to swallow back my rage.

Maybe noticing my silence, she opened her mouth again. "If you want to ask questions, now is your chance."

I took her offer and asked her some questions. The first question is about the side effect and what it may cause to me.

She said I most probably experience memory loss from time to time, but that was only temporary and it will heal in time.

Damn! Memory loss, huh? A terrifying side effect, but the way she said it seemed like it wasn't a big deal.

In my mind, I was grinding my teeth in fury once again.

'This woman and her organization, I want to make them pay for what they did to me.' I secretly harbored enmity towards them. 'Wait when I get out of here, I will reveal to the world about your existence and make you pay for this inhuman act.'

"I see… a memory loss, huh. That's awful…"

"….."

She didn't say anything, so I continued asking.

Next, I asked her about the program she mentioned that they installed in me. She said it was a supercomputer technology that enables me to summon augmented displays like those in VR games.

What—?

I'm stunned by it.

"The program is called… The System."

"….."

Did she just say Sys…tem? I repeated her words.

After talking with her, I was required to test the program which required me to stay there for a couple of days. Day by day, I was trained and tested.

As I thought, the 'System' she mentioned was identical to the 'System' in those in fantasy anime and manga.

For some reason, I found myself enamored by it. Who would not when I am one of the many who enjoyed watching those kinds of anime? I could feel the aura of an MC in me whenever I summoned the floating translucent display in the air. I could even see my stats in numerical value.

To further the test, they added daily missions for me to complete daily. They called it daily missions. Though they were missions, the missions actually consisted of daily exercises only like running, sit-ups, push-ups, and etcetera.

They looked simple, but they were the activities I hate the most in my life. However, if I fail to do the missions, I will suffer searing pain in my head. One time I tried to ignore it and ended up suffering great pain in my head.

The feeling is comparable to being burned inside.

I didn't want the System to fry my brain, so I started completing the missions even though I was against it.

Anyway, even after completing the daily missions for a couple of days already, I didn't see my stats improving.

Holy cow!

Even those expert researchers who were checking my progress didn't know what to do. So in the end, they marked me as a failure subject. They concluded that the data they installed in me is trash.

With that, they gave up continuing my training and I was spared by the tests. They let me go after some counseling. Although they freed me, they strictly prohibited me from mentioning to anyone about the existence of the organization.

Damn! That ruins my plan.

Looking at the super advanced technology they were using, I don't think they were lying when they said they could locate me anytime and anywhere.

"….."

Sh8. What can I do now? How to get my revenge on them?

I don't know what happened after that, but back to the present, I finally understand what these floating widgets are in front of me.

I checked the time first by dragging in the center the icon of the calendar widget that was on my left side.

It zoomed out and enlarged, then displayed the current date and time.

"I see… so it's not yesterday that the confession happened, but about two weeks ago."

Suddenly, another panel popped in front of the calendar widget.

Showed in there was the list of uncompleted missions.

10 kilometers jog (0/10 km)

100 push-ups (0/100)

100 sit-ups (0/100)

100 pull-ups (0/100)

100 jumps (0/100)

Remaining time - 3:15:01

I saw the time continuously counting down and I only have 3 hours and 15 minutes left! Thankfully, my memories came back before the time limits ran off.

I quickly threw away the blanket and started stretching.

"Dammit! What a hassle!" I complained. I did ask them to cancel the missions since it useless anyway. But those bastards, they didn't cancel it! They said it's a waste of their precious time.

"Ah! Fvck!"
