Chapter 47

Kyle was pulling Nick back and trying to brush past him all at the same time, shouting for Jacob to stop.

Shots were fired from the section of the depot where the bombs had landed. The woman, Brynn, was there with two other people who crouched low. They wore dark clothing, their faces covered. They had longer rifles with spotting scopes mounted on them—sharpshooters.

Brynn pointed Nick and Kyle out to the pair of shooters.

“CrapFuckNick, down! Snipers!” Todd waved his arms as he shouted to his mate. He was in motion, running at them, but he knew he’d never get there in time to stop either of them from being hit.

Jacob was gunned down as he ran toward the attacking forces. Todd would have known they weren’t from West Caldera even if Kyle hadn’t already told them. These people wore plain clothing, dark and nondescript. Troops from West Caldera would have been uniformed, as the soldiers helping the people in the depot were.
