The Plan

Why is everything about power? What is the purpose of this? I honestly don't know. I'm hoping to see my sister, Mackenzie Karria one last time, before I return to Cloud Academy for my last year, but she's at my mom's house, the one place I'm not allowed to go since my father died. I'm living with my Aunt Melanie, who had hated my mom from the start, and had used my father dying as an excuse to get me to live with her. It's been 2 years since we split apart, and not once was I able to contact herㄧ

"Lyra! Get down here!" A voice called Lyra, who scrambled to put her diary away. "C-Coming, Aunt Millie!" Her Aunt had made her call her 'Aunt Millie," since she didn't like being called Melanie. Lyra knew it was about her school. Her Aunt never used that tone of voice for anything else. The truth about why Melanie wanted Lyra to go, was because she wanted Lyra to give her access to the crystal stone they were trained to protect.

Lyra ran down the stairs, to see Her pudgy Aunt, in a baggy dress, and face overloaded with makeup, smiling at her. Something's wrong, Lyra thought, toying with her strawberry blonde hair.

"Yes, Aunt?"

"Well, they're letting parents come to the academy! So considerate, am I right? Of course, I am your caregiver, so I got to attend. And I can finally steal the Crystal!"

Lyra rolled her eyes, and went back to her room. She changed into her uniform, careful to keep her daggers hidden. It was time to put the plan her and her friends had put into actionㄧthough they were still missing someone from the Shadow Element. I guess we'll have to make due. . . Lyra thought, as she walked down the stairs.
