Chapter 7 Nanaya Clan's Treasure

Since today marks the beginning of the school year, apart from attending the opening ceremony, students need only attend class meetings where necessary instructions are given. This affords them the freedom to explore the campus and commence formal classes the following day.

Accordingly, some students made their way to the location of the opening ceremony, while others opted to explore various campus facilities, creating a lively atmosphere. Fang Li was among those who strolled through the school.

Such exploration was a habit of Fang Li's whenever entering a new environment. There were several reasons for this, including becoming familiar with the surroundings, gaining valuable insights, and identifying potential issues through observation.

As Fang Li completed a comprehensive tour of the campus, one thing stood out: the excessive number of cameras. Although it is common for schools to install cameras, the number of cameras at Advanced Nurturing High School was surprisingly high. Cameras were even installed in shopping areas with entertainment facilities, every classroom in school buildings, with only private and special areas lacking them.

Fang Li wondered, "Do the students have any privacy at all? Does the school control everything they do?"

Of course, not all areas were under surveillance, and Fang Li identified several "gray areas" that were not captured by the cameras. He speculated that these areas were likely used for activities that required privacy, and he planned to utilize them as well.

Familiarizing oneself with the terrain was crucial, especially for Fang Li, as the presence or absence of a camera could determine the success or failure of his actions. During Nanaya Clan's training, Fang Li faced many countermeasures designed specifically to counteract cameras.

"It's a shame that in school my equipment and resources are limited," Fang Li lamented. With better equipment and resources, he could use the school to his advantage, but for now, he would need to exercise restraint.

In light of this realization, Fang Li made the judgment to exercise caution in his actions.

Additionally, Fang Li made another observation - the reactions of those around him.

As he passed by, he overheard whispers from curious upperclassmen and peers.

"I wonder how the new student are placed."

"I hope they don't end up in D-Class."

"Agreed, it would be unfortunate."

Their disdain and sympathy were palpable when referring to the dreaded "D-Class."

Fang Li pondered, "Is there a significant difference in placement here?"

Moreover, he noted that the school had exceptional conditions and regulations that differed from other institutions. The classroom setup also seemed distinct.

As Fang Li checked his phone and saw his balance, he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Nevermind. It's not my concern right now."

With that, he dismissed the crowd that had begun to move towards the opening ceremony and made his way to the dormitory.

....

In Advanced Nurturing High School, there are three student dormitories divided by grade: one for first-year students, another for second-year students, and a third for third-year students. Each student lives alone in a room, and the dormitories are designed so that boys' rooms are located on the lower floors while girls' rooms occupy the upper floors. The treatment and facilities provided to each student are equal.

Upon arriving at the first-year student dormitory, Fang Li received his room card and dorm specifications handbook from the counter administrator on the first floor. Taking the elevator to his room, he perused the manual, which detailed various aspects of dormitory life such as garbage disposal schedules, noise regulations, water conservation guidelines, and prohibitions on entering the opposite sex's room after midnight.

As previously mentioned, the school covers all lodging expenses including heating, water, and gas fees. However, if students wish to purchase additional furniture, appliances, or daily necessities, they must use points to do so. Fang Li wondered how many points it would take to decorate his room and speculated whether 100,000 points would be enough. However, he ultimately decided that he had no need for such extravagance.

As he entered his four ping-sized room (about the size of eight tatami mats), Fang Li couldn't help but wonder if this would become his home for the next three years. He glanced around and sat down on his bed. "This will be my base from now on," he muttered.

The room was equipped with a kitchen, toilet, bathroom, and entrance hall, making it essentially a self-contained apartment. As silence fell in the room, Fang Li relaxed and began to settle into his new surroundings.

Soon, Fang Li let out a silent sigh.

"Just to confirm," he murmured to himself.

With that said, Fang Li retrieved something from his schoolbag. It was a slender wooden box that his foster father had entrusted to Superintendent Sakayanagi, who in turn had given it to Fang Li.

Fang Li opened the box and inside, he found a dark, stalked handle that was about a dozen centimeters long. Engraved on the handle were ancient characters that read 'Nanaya' - the name of the knife. Fang Li held it in his hand and examined it closely.

"It's really this thing," he said with another sigh. Fang Li's grip on the handle tightened and there was a crisp sound as a cold blade emerged from the sheath.

If anyone else had been present, they would have held their breath at the sight. There was something about the way Fang Li held the knife that made it seem like he was born to wield it. It was as though he possessed a natural affinity for the weapon that could not be explained.

This particular knife was a treasure passed down through the generations of the Nanaya Clan. It was a true antique and some were willing to pay a high price to acquire it. Only the patriarchs of the Nanaya Clan and their successors who had received the Nanaya name were allowed to hold this weapon.

Fang Li gazed at the weapon in awe. "What am I supposed to do with this?" he muttered. In a world governed by laws and regulations, there seemed to be no use for such a weapon.

Shrugging, Fang Li sheathed the blade and slipped the knife into his pocket. "I'll think about it later," he said to himself before leaving the room to grab some food.
