Chapter 13 Turmoil in Senior Grades
After several repetitions, the club recruitment broadcast ended. Despite this, many students in Class 1-D remained interested.
"Club Ah..." someone murmured.
"Do you want to participate?" another student asked.
"It shouldn't be too hard, right?" someone else added.
"Relax. If the class are this easy, then the club activities in this school will certainly be easy too," a fourth student reasoned.
"That makes sense," someone else agreed.
"It's better to go and see it," another student suggested.
"I'm not going. I'm totally uninterested in clubs," one student declared.
In the classroom, students made different decisions, one after another. Some left with laughter and excitement, continuing to discuss other entertainment. Others headed towards the first gym, obviously ready to see what the club had to offer.
In contrast the appearance of Fang Li, Horikita Suzune, and Ayanokoji Kiyotaka seemed out of place.
"A Track and Field Club invitation?" Ayanokoji Kiyotaka exclaimed to himself in surprise. "Can such an announcement be made on the school broadcast?"
Ayanokoji Kiyotaka seemed deeply concerned about this matter. In contrast, Horikita Suzune's attention was drawn to a different incident.
"There no difference with the Student Council President?" Horikita Suzune muttered, her sharp and indifferent expression shaken, shocked, and even concerned.
Fang Li paid little attention to his companions' reactions. He continued to pack his schoolbag, raising his head briefly only to glance in the direction of the broadcast.
The scene of the race from that morning replayed in Fang Li's mind.
"Student President..." Fang Li narrowed his eyes, recalling the upperclassman who had introduced himself as Horikita Manabu. It seemed like he finally understood something.
Unfortunately, Fang Li's murmurs did not go unnoticed.
"Do you care about the Student President, Nanaya-san?" Kushida Kikyou had approached without Fang Li noticing. She leaned in towards Fang Li and spoke sweetly.
This drew everyone's attention to Kushida Kikyou, including Fang Li's.
Fang Li turned to look at the girl leaning towards him. "Is it some kind of gossip?" he asked. "Could you please tell me?"
"Sure thing!" Kushida Kikyou agreed readily, speaking in a tone that hinted at the juicy nature of the information she was about to share. "Actually, I heard it from friends in other classes."
Friends in other classes? Just two days into school, and this girl was already making friends in other classes? That was quite impressive.
Kushida Kikyou continued with her explanation, unaware of the thoughts running through everyone's minds. "I heard that this morning, the Student President had a race with a student. Many upperclassmen who had been in the Track and Field Club saw it, and the two of them seemed to be evenly matched. It caused quite a stir."
So that was the origin of the incident. The members of the Track and Field Club had been impressed by the race, and had been trying to recruit the student ever since. However, with classes starting so soon after the race, the news hadn't spread much and the identity of the student was still unknown.
"If the student was a second or third-year, the upperclassmen would have recognized them," Kushida Kikyou explained. "But since they're a first-year, nobody knows who they are."
That was a very astute observation.
Fang Li was a new student, so no one recognized him during the morning race. Ayanokouji Kiyotaka asked why a simple race could cause so much disturbance among senior students. He believed that while the Track and Field Club was eager for talent, that alone would not get the entire Senior Classes in turmoil.
Kushida Kikyou attempted to explain the reason for the disturbance, but Horikita Suzune interrupted her and says that the reason was because the new student was racing against the Student President of the school. Kushida Kikyou confirmed Horikita's suggestion, adding that the Student President was a very talented individual with exceptional academic and athletic abilities, and even rumored to have martial arts skills. Furthermore, the school's Student Council had significant privileges, including the ability to modify some school rules and examination content, and its members were highly regarded characters in their grade.
Horikita Manabu was the current Student Council President and was known as the most outstanding Student President since the establishment of the school. His talent and power could affect the school's policies. With such a prominent individual involved in the race, it was no surprise that it caused such a disturbance, even if it was just a race.
Kushida Kikyou was about to mention the Student President's name, but Fang Li abruptly interrupted her and asked Ayanokouji Kiyotaka that before he wanted to hang out. Ayanokouji was caught off guard and replied vaguely, but Fang Li smiled and suggested that they go see whatever was going on in Clubs requirement gathering.
