1 Chapter one

(Why am I here?)

A teen boy asked himself as he sat on a bus, going to his next and final destination for the next three years.

He wore a red blazer with gold linings and green pants, especially issued by the school he was going to attend and he had to admit, the fact that the only thing they were allowed to bring were clothes on their body and an empty bag that was also provided by the school was suspicious.

Well, that was partially true, others were allowed to brink some pictures of their families and books but since he had no such thing, there was no point dwelling on it.

The brown-haired teen looked around, his green eyes gliding over every passenger inside the bus and he had to say, the students going to the same place as he didn't seem very impressive. Most were just staring into space, probably because they weren't allowed to bring their phones to pass the time, one was reading and one was just sitting with his legs crossed and arms behind his head, seemingly relaxing.

Closing his eyes, he leaned on the backrest of the seat in front of him, making sure not to disturb the woman sitting there, and waited for the ride to end. After all, he had an elite high school to attend.

___

"Excuse me, Sir? Would you be willing to give up your seat?"

His eye cracked open slowly, looking forward with an uninterested gaze, a girl with short brown hair coming down to her chin, talking to a blonde boy he observed earlier, by his body structure, he guessed that he was tall and well built, his blonde hair coming down past his shoulders with two strands hanging out at the start of his hairline, objectively, he was handsome, with a defining jaw line and unblemished skin, he would be quite the catch for any girl.

"That is priority seat, after all, it would be only right for her to sit here."

The girl continued and he only now noticed the old woman holding a cane in her hand standing by the girl, looking at the boy with a disappointed face.

Closing his eyes again, he absently listened to the blonde boy as he started denying the request in a really roundabout way.

"Can anyone give up their seat for this sweet old lady?"

How about you mind your business, huh?

Sighing, he just stood up without much sound and walked to one of the handles hanging from the tubes for people to hold on to and grabbed one. He didn't do it because of some sense of duty or for the greater good as the girl tried to persuade the blonde boy said, he just wanted to be in peace and quiet again.

"Thank you, young man."

Nodding absently at the old woman, he just leaned his head back and stared at the roof absently, looking to everyone that he was thinking while in reality, he was trying to sleep while standing.

"Thank you."

Suppressing a twitch that was starting to develop in his eyebrow, he looked down at the short-haired girl.

Her face was set in a gentle, grateful expression. She seemed to be the kind of girl that would try to befriend everyone, be that one friend that everyone would turn to and trust unconditionally, if something happened, she would not even be on the suspect list, even if any hints pointed at her.

"No problem."

She was also a fake. It was written all over her face, he had to admit, it was well hidden, but that mask would not be able to deceive him of all people.

Looking away from the girl, hoping that it would be enough of a hint for her to leave him alone, he looked outside the window at the water.

Yes, this school could qualify as an island. Large enough to fit Dorms for four classes and three years, a large shopping mall, apartments for all the workers, a theater, and basically anything a teen would need for the next three years, there was even a hospital there.

"You have no idea how happy I am that you gave up your seat for that old lady!"

(Mind your own business woman! Begone Thot!)

Keeping his inner thoughts to himself, his eyes traveled down to the girl again. Hiding the annoyance he felt, he just stared at her impassively, expecting her to get to the point.

"My name is Kikyo Kushida, nice to meet you."

The boy just stared at the girl for a second, letting everything soak in. Yup, his assumption of her was correct, her acting was on point, and he was sure that no one would notice the mask she wore on her face.

"Kenji, just Kenji."

The girl blinked, tilting her head to the side before seemingly shaking off the confusion and smiling.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Kenji-Kun."

(... great, here's to hope that we're not in the same class.)

___

(Fuck.)

They were in the same class.

As he opened the door, he let Kushida inside first and walked right behind her, looking over the class, he took note of most of the people inside.

As Kushida walked over to claim a seat, his half-lidded eyes roamed over the groups that were already being made. Girls talk in one large group, boys split up into a few smaller ones of three or four.

Most of the desks already had bags either on them or hanging on the hook at their side and looks like there was only one left in front of the protagonist's seat... Damn.

Sighing, he walked over to the only seat left free in the class and put his bag down on the desk, sharing a nod of acknowledgment with the short brown-haired boy that was going to be sitting behind him, he sat down... and plopped his head down on the bag, using it as a pillow.
