Jonathan traipsed down the hallway, struck by the silence of the near-empty dorm. Most of the students had headed home or to the nearby city of Cincinnati for the holiday weekend. Usually, this corridor, on a Friday night, would have music in all different styles blaring from different rooms—hip hop, classic rock, dance—and many of the doors would be open so people could pop in and out of each other’s room and freely call to their neighbors across the hall. There would be lots of laughter and shouting, guys coming back from the showers, towels around their waists, after getting ready to head uptown to celebrate the beginning of the weekend.
