Chapter 5

DARIUS

I stand up and go to the window to look out to check on my men, all are accounted for and in position to take care of their Luna. Deville came after her because of her cousin, but because of who she is to me he will continue to be after her, and if he takes her it will mean the destruction of our pack. I walk back over to Claire and kiss the top of her head, and leave the room. Standing at the nurse's station is my beta and my brother Dominic. He isn't my brother by blood but after the death of my father, I was taken in by my father's Beta to help raise me until I was old enough to take care of myself and our pack. I've been living with them since I was six years old, so now 12 years later we're still close. Walk up to him and slap him on the back, getting his attention away from the nurse he was flirting with. "Let's go, bro. Monro will be here watching over her while we're gone. She will keep me informed. Say goodbye to your new friend and let's go.'' I head for the elevator pushing the down button and it opens right away. Taking me down to the parking lot. The numbers change over every few moments until finally, I arrive at the lot. The doors open up widely and reveal a gorgeous woman, with curves that would make any other man want to do anything for just a little taste. But I've already had a taste and it's nothing like sweetness, just toxicity.

"What are you doing her Scarlett?'' I ask the woman not to give her a second glance. Scarlett and I had a few drunken nights spent together and she thought that meant more than what it was. That I would want to make her my chosen mate, make her the luna of my pack. She didn't take it well when I laughed in her face. Neither did the rest of her family for that matter. We've been having problems with the silver moon pack since then and that was six months ago. So it isn't good that she just so happens to be in the same place that my mate is at.

"It's a hospital, Darius, why else would someone be here? I'm visiting a friend." she enters the elevator I just exited. I wait for the doors to close to see which floor she is heading to. 1...2...3...4 and the lights click off. Shit, that's Claire's floor. I mind link, Monro.

" Scarlett just entered the fourth floor. I don't know what she's doing here. But stay outta sight and in the room with Claire. "

"Yes, Alpha, on my life I will keep the Luna safe." disconnecting from her, i connect to Dom next.

"Dom, hurry your ass up!" I disconnect before he can reply.

I take my time walking down the rows of cars until I make it to my own red sports car. Looking at my car you would think it was one of the doctors. People are often surprised to see such a young guy exit a car of this much money. I was very fortunate to be brought up into a pack that was smart enough to make smart investments and grow with the world and not stays stuck in the old days. Those packs are small and a dying breed. Many of the bigger packs come in and buy up their lands and make them submit to them and join their packs.

My elders have done this and have tried to make me do the same. Saying it is the way but i honestly find it to be brutality that isn't necessary. I prefer to yes buy up their lands, but I allow them to keep as their own. I don't want to kill off old packs with rich history when I could just help keep them alive. I rather make them my ally then make them a potential enemy. Something I have grown to learn over the short years of being alpha is never underestimating the little guys or the oppressed.

Dominic enters the car with a grin on his face not sorry he made his alpha wait for twenty minutes. "The next time I tell you to hurry the fuck up, do it. I don't want to ask multiple times again," I tell him annoyed with his lack of respect. There are times when I allow it because we have been friends since we were pups but as beta and a serious situation involving his future Luna he should be just as serious.

"What's your problem D? I was just getting a number," he says with a wide grin which makes me believe he got more than a number. I shake my head "Dominic there are times for that kind of shit but when your Luna is in the hospital that is when you need to be the beta I know you to can be." nodding his head he says "your right. I don't know what I was thinking. I think it because it's so new. I'm not used to it yet. But I won't let it happen again. The Luna is here now, it's time for our pack to grow and become more powerful."

This is why I made him my beta because he understands, and I don't have to reexplain myself or argue with him. "I need you to reach out to the silver moon, find out what Scarlett is doing where she doesn't belong. Remind them this is not the time to test the boundaries of our territory. That is their only warning."

We speed out of the city and out into the vast forest where our new packhouse is and the land we inherited from my self asshole grandfather. It's funny how he despised us and wanted us nowhere near him but now in death, we were given all his belongings because he fucked up. Winding down the road we pass by many new construction sites of new small homes being built around the property. This will all soon be full of small homes for all of our pack members, just as they deserve.

Arriving in from of the packhouse, my mother is outside waiting for us. "Darius! Why is there blood all over you? What happened?" She Worries over me only the way a mother could, and it makes me smile. "I'm fine ma." I take her hands and hold them "it's from Claire, she was attacked outside her house. I got there just in time, she's fine now."

"Our Luna was attacked?!" she yells, outraged he face turning red

"Yes, I'm handling it. But she is okay, and has already gone through her first shift last night.'' I walk up the grand steps and make my way into the foyer and leave it into my study. I connect to my delta.

"Lucas come to my study"

"Yes alpha."

Once I have both my beta and delta in the same room I get down to business.

"I want Andrew Deville dead."
