1 The broken heart

A candy sweet girl enters a big hall with Christmas present in hands for her elder brother. She is 10 years old and her name is Carolina Jin. This name has been given to by her mother as she have very attractive voice since birth .

The hall has been full with gifts, beautifully decorated, warm but the atmosphere inside seemed tense. Their is her elder 20 year old brother Soo Jin and family patriarch her grand father Lie Jin. In her family it is considered a ritual to become an army official.

But Soo Jin wants to be a novelist. So he is fighting for his life. Seeing the tense atmosphere, the young Carolina hides behind a sofa. Since everyone has been busy in a stare down with Soo Jin, no one has noticed her presence.

" Why don't you understand grandfather, I am not someone who wants physical hardships or trainings in the field . I hate blood. I am weak. I am soft hearted. Do you still think, I can stand a single in the battlefield as a soldier?" , Soo Jin voices his thoughts.

" You can train hard to overcome your weakness. Practice makes a man perfect. You can practice different moves daily and be good at it ." , Carolina and Soo Jin's father, Hyueng Jin speak as he looks at his son. He wants to save his son from the wrath of his father.

All his life in the military, he has feared only one person and that was his father, Lie Jin who has been also been known as the Great Eagle of the defence forces. He does not want his dear, one and only son to face him, so ease up the situation, he tries to convince his son .

" Father, practice needs concentration, determination, focus and aim. And out of all the points, I don't have anything for the military. But I can attain all these points on my own if my profession is that of a novelist. So, I....", before Soo Jin can complete a heavy voice interrupts.

" Enough!", Lie Jin looks at his grandson, whom he has treasured so much. He has made sure that he recieved best of everything. His wishes and desires as well as opinions will be listened if there is a decision regarding him . He has not forced him to learn self defence unlinke his other grand children at very tender age because he wants him to first prepare himself. But his affections has lead him to loose control over his grandsons, Soo Jin.

" Are you sure, you don't want to join the military?", he put pressure in his voice.

" Yes." Soo Jin has always been determined. Since Lie Jin doted on him , his intense pressure is nothing for him, as he has felt many pressures from him when attending an event or meeting.

" Very well.", Lie Jin dusts his clothes as stands from his chair. He looks up to the face of Soo Jin and meets his eyes.

" According to family ritual, one has to join army, if you don't want to join army then it means that you are not a family. Take your stuff and get out of here, right now. " Lie Jin' words has shocked everyone present in the room .

" Father...."

" Father in law...."

" Stop. It all depends on his choices. " , Lie Jin leaves the room without looking back.

For an instant, Soo Jin has been stunned but he has decided to stand up for himself, so he does not listens to any pleas of his mother or words of his father.

" I will leave this house this instance and never return .", his voice has been so loud that everyone in the mansion can hear. Without speaking anything further, he leaves.

All the things that has happened, has shocked the little Carolina. The gift in her hands falls and breaks.

It is actually not the gift that has broken , but her heart as her happy family has split and it can no longer be called 'happy'.
