I've waited long enough. It was time for me to tell someone what was going on. Lex had been gone all day. Neither I nor Rudy had seen him at all since we'd gotten up. And something just told me that something was wrong.

Did something happen to him? Did he go out for something this morning before the rest of us were awake and something bad happened to him? Was he hurt? What was going on here?

No, I didn't think that he was hurt. It was hard for me to put it into words, and this annoyed me a lot because I prided myself on being able to articulate myself. So this here, this inability to think of a proper description of what I was feeling, just goaded me in a way that was perplexing and frustrating.
