Give him a little headache

"what do you want," I paused. I should have hung up the call, but I felt it would not be pleasant.

"I accept your conditions," Mr Fred said. Although I could not hear what he was saying, I could guess he was cursing under his breath. "I am no longer interested in settling outside court, besides I am not sure if that is possible, I have to ask my lawyer for advice," I said. Then, I ended the call without waiting for him to say another word. I could guess how furious Mr Fred would bite his lips after I ended the call. He was a man who liked to be in charge.

In the company, he always put on an air of superior, but I know all those are acting to lay a lady.

My only regret at this moment was not being able to say this to his face. Sometimes I wonder why he would act without thinking. Anyways with the lawyer's assurance, I am sure I would win.

Moreover, knowing Mr Fred, I knew he would not take the initiative to call if he was not in a disadvantageous position.

I then returned to the bathroom to finish up Jojo's bath. When I was done, I went over to the kitchen.

"What did he want? " Ela asked. I was sure that she was dying of curiosity.

" He wants to settle out of court if I have my way, I don't want to make so much notice about it, but I remember the lawyer said I should not make a decision blindly so that I would ask for his opinion first," I said. "you made the right choice; this is a God-giving opportunity. You must make the best out of it," Ela said.

"I know," I said. I walked out of the kitchen and called the lawyer. I did not know so much about the law; it was better to hear what he would tell me. "Miss Grey," the lawyer picked up the call at the first ring. "I received a call from my former boss; I have recorded the conversation," I informed him. He told me it was best I did not keep any secret from him.

"That's great; forward the recording to me. I will give my advice after I listen," the lawyer replied.

I agreed to it, and when I ended the call, I forwarded the recording to him. But, to be honest, I was a bit anxious.

After sending the message, I went over to assist Ela in setting the table. When I got to the dining area, I found Ela on the phone; there was a sweet smile on her face. I did not have to guess too much to know who was on the other end of the phone.I felt a stab in my heart, and the image of Karl smiling at that lady at the mall flashed through my mind. I could not explain why a causal chit-chat could push me to such an extent.

I have never believed in reincarnation, but I was beginning to think that the feeling I had with Karl had something to do with a life before.

It was as though there was a bond between us, but why on earth was I the only one feeling that way? 'It must be my nemesis,' I thought and looked at Ela's flushed face.

The connection had been both ways; no matter what, I felt he might still remember me. But Ela was right; I should have walked up to him.

"Love you too," Ela said and ended her call. She looked a bit embarrassed when she saw me there.

"how long have you been standing there?" Ela asked.

"just got here, " I replied. Although I knew I had been standing there for a while now, aside from her last statement, I did not hear anything else, so I was not lying.

"Great, let's eat," I saw that the redness in her cheek had yet to disappear.

"Okay," I filled Jojo's plate before I sat down.

"What did the lawyer say?" Ela asked.

"I sent him the recording of our conversation; he would advise me after listening to it," I replied.

"you are so smart that Mr Fred may even deny it if you have no recording," Ela gave me a thumbs up."i was just following the lawyer's advice," I shook my head.

We had just started eating when the lawyer called back. "are you really satisfied with the request you made on the phone," He asked once I picked up.

I thought about what I said; I did not ask for what I did not deserve, anyway I enjoyed my current job and did not want to leave. If I was not careful, mum would use the situation as an excuse to have me return home. " yes, " I said.

"then I would help you draft a document so that he can sign it. You can also demand the lawyer fee from him. All this would be emotional compensation," The lawyer said.

"Okay," I agreed. He was the lawyer mum found for me, so I knew I could trust him.

"then, should I contact him?" I asked. The lawyer chuckled . "do you want to give him a little headache?" the lawyer asked.

"yes," I answered without thinking. "then you can continue to refuse him. Anyway, the court summon had been due in another two weeks; you can take the time to relax," the lawyer laughed.

I love the idea, so I agreed. Anyways Mr Fred has always cut off my leave so that I can treat this time as a vacation. Talking of vacation, I needed one. Maybe I should go and visit mum, this way I might be able to forget Karl.Ela smiled after I hung up the call and gave me a Thumbs up. "you dare to put Mr Fred on his toes," Ela commented.

"Don't worry; there is nothing to fear. I am sure that He only called to settle out of court because he is scared of the head office," He wouldn't have called if he had no benefits. I replied.
