16 Chapter 16

"What's the situation?" Darian said in a quiet voice as he and Leon made an appearance behind the two lookouts.

Luke jolted slightly, he had been expecting them but had gotten distracted which was why he was taken by surprise but Clay was not exactly expecting them so he got a bad fright.

Yelling as he flinched violently, quickly, Leon tugged him closer to slap a hand over his mouth.

"Damn, at this rate, there'll be no coyotes left to kill." He muttered, his sharp eyes taking in the coyotes who had luckily not been startled by Clay's yelling.

Luke was worried however about Clay who Leon still had a hold on, the poor werewolf was starting to turn a really worrisome pale shade.

"Leo, let go of the kid." Darian thankfully stepped in before Clay blacked out, Clay wisely putting distance between them.

Quickly, Luke filled them in on what little they knew, dawn was approaching so they needed to get to work before the animals disappeared for the day.

It would be a hassle to go after them when they had already settled in for the day, the coyotes were nocturnal so they would find somewhere safe to camp for the day.

They listened intently and Luke could almost see their mental gears spinning in sync.

Darian still graciously deferred to Leon… well, whenever he chose to, this was one of those moments.

"The plan is simple, Darian and I will ambush them while the both of you make sure that there aren't any stragglers." Leon stated, calmly taking off his shirt, his eyes fixed on Clay who had gone to the other extreme fast, he was now a bright red shade.

"Sure thing." Luke answered for the both of them, keeping a poker face as he snagged Clay's arm to tug him behind him.

Leon stretched a bit, he had been very upset at being woken up but now that he had gotten here, it wasn't looking like a very bad way to spend his morning, considering he couldn't even spend time with Cherry.

"Race you there." Leon drawled, he had hung his shirt off a tree branch while Darian took his time, carefully folding up his.

"This isn't a competition." Darian said calmly, uninterested.

"Too late." He chuckled, starting off into a run only to shift after a couple paces, continuing to run in wolf form.

"Idiot, don't charge at them all by yourself!" Darian cursed at him, chasing after him.

"You good?" Luke glanced away from Darian shifting to look Clay over, patting his shoulder.

Clay put his hand on his hair, his dark hair falling forward. "Yeah."

Luke blinked in surprise when that was all the werewolf said, usually by now he would have added a couple more compound sentences. "Good, let's get to work."

They separated so that they could cover more ground, they still had a view of each other and a particularly clear view of the two Heads fighting… actually wait, no, scratch that, this wasn't the definition of a fight.

This was the two Heads massacring.

'Holy fuck!' Clay's voice drifted into his head and Luke could absolutely understand.

Even though he had seen them fight before, it got better each time, at this rate, there would be no coyotes for them to exterminate.

Again, their tactics were nothing short of beautiful to watch and also very different.

'I take back my complaints about it being just the two of them.' Clay mumbled and Luke could see him slowly crouch down, settling on a boulder to watch.

It was no surprise that the other had no inhibitions left, he couldn't blame him, the coyotes were all more all less downed.

Luke wouldn't recommend being so carefree though, especially not in his human form, just as that line of thought formed in his head, a coyote broke free and rushed in Clay's direction.

"Shit!" Luke cursed, it was so sudden that he didn't have the chance to warn Clay in time, not to mention that he was too far away to offer any help.

He shouldn't have been that worried though, Darian immediately lunged after the coyote, snagging it by its neck and yanking it back while it was already in mid-leap at Clay who flinched away.

Clay gulped from his spot on the boulder, looking up at Darian who, if his expression was translated, was looking at him with a blank expression, a bleeding coyote still hanging from his maw.

Behind him, Leon had already finished up the rest, Luke didn't even have to shift.

'Oy! While you were there flirting, I did all the work.' Leon's annoying voice floated into Darian's head.

Darian rolled his eyes, tossing the limp animal to the side, the irritating taste of its blood in his mouth. 'I wasn't flirting, maybe if you had stopped killing only coyotes with lighter fur and actually did something, you might have noticed.'

Leon shifted back, his upper body stained with blood. "You talk too much." He complained, tweaking his neck.

Darian was already ignoring him, facing the other two Warriors who had come together again. 'Can you guys handle the rest?' He mind-linked with them.

"Yeah." Luke answered quickly, it was the least they could do anyway.

'Sure.' Darian turned around, dismissing them, what he needed then was fucking hot shower and maybe to sleep for the rest of the day, it wasn't like he had anything better to do anyway and it was all Leon's fault…

"Hey, D, lemme ride you." Leon threw himself at Darian's furry body.

Reflexively, Darian snapped at him, bloody fangs coming really close to Leon's neck but he was unfazed, staring down Darian with an almost smug expression.

"Amazing." Clay gushed from where they stood, watching with wide eyes. Although he had been standing a distance away, Darian's reaction had made him flinch and yet Leon hadn't even moved a muscle.

'If you don't get off me Leo, I'll snap you in two.' Darian threatened in a growl, his silver eyes narrowed into slits.
