1 Really, Dude?

I sat at my usual desk in class tapping my pencil to a beat that I could not get out of my head since morning. "Charlie, if you don't stop that bothersome drumming, you're headed straight to the principal's office young lady." Mr Anderson growled as he flipped his textbook to the page he wanted to teach us today. I placed my pencil in my other hand and started on the problem-solving half the page while Mr Anderson droned on about the previous exercise. soon, it was the end of the class and we all headed to the lunch room. " hey Charlie, wait up," my friend Miles said while panting. " what's up buddy" I greeted as we both made our way to the lunch room. we sat at our usual table and Miles gently lowered his tray onto the table. we were halfway done with our meal when the chatter in the room suddenly died down I then realised that everyone was looking at the entrance of the lunch room.

Intrigued, I also spun around to have a better look. Standing in the doorway was a Greek god with dark brown hair and dreamy blue eyes behind him stood two of his friends who were just as good-looking as him. " this place sucks, wanna go to burger king?" Max said while poking his head over Noah's shoulder making the latter shrug his shoulder to try and get his friend's head off his shoulder " But that's what we ate yesterday." Alex said with a pout on his face. "you guys act so spoiled Seth said and silently walked past his friends went to the food bar and strode to where Miles and I sat. he then plopped down and soon started munching on an apple. the other three also followed suit. I stared at the school's bad boys who looked comfortable sitting with us as though they'd always sat with us. the Velocity crew as we knew them were sitting with me. they are the most popular guys in school and I'm just a nerd. at the same time, I was still wondering why they would eat from the lunch room or even be sitting at our table. Miles and I gave each other confused looks but kept quiet. " ah, the nerds are afraid of us, I wonder why," Max said as he popped a meatball in his mouth and then chewed it. I sat frozen as the four popular boys sat at my table there had been rumours that they were in a gang. But they looked nothing like gang members. I then looked over at Miles who was glaring at the newcomers. I also noticed that he had his hands in fists and his knuckles were turning white, which he only did when he was tense. Noah gave him a hard look and for a moment, it looked like the two were having a staring contest. The whole table was silent as the seconds ticked by. and then the school bell rang. I let out a sigh, grabbed my backpack and went to the gym.

" Alright ladies, give me ten laps." our coach yelled as soon as she walked into the gym and found most of the kids sitting on the floor. One by one, we all exited the school and went to the field. five minutes later, we were all breathless. Miles caught up with me and ran at the same pace as me. A few seconds later, the four boys also caught up with us and unlike Miles, they did not sound out of breath. The six 9f us were in the lead as we approached the finish line. My heart was pounding in my chest and I almost did a happy dance right there for the finish line was only one step away but Max crossed the finish line before me, well, second place is just as good. " Yeah, I beat you slow pokes, Who is the greatest racer?" Max said in celebration as he thrust his fist up in the air and then proceeded to jump up and down. But then only half a second later, the shrill sound of a whistle could be heard and our coach marched up to where we were standing. Coach Daniels was not tall or muscly she was quite petite but the whole school feared her even the staff. She stood right in front of Max whose celebration died almost as soon as it had begun. " so you think you're the best runner huh? Well wise guy, show me what you got." She spoke to him making him shrink back. The confidence he exuded earlier was now long gone. " no, mam." He said in barely a whisper. "Give me another ten." She yelled at him and he zoomed off running around the track. " And the rest of you, it's dodgeball time." She said with a smile that sent a shiver down my spine not because I was afraid of it but because the way she smiled at us made me think of the worst. She divided us up into two groups and led us to the gym once more.

In the evening, I could not find Miles so I went looking for him. He was not at our usual spot at the school gates so I had to go back into the school to try and find him. Every classroom was empty and the field was deserted. Then I thought of the only place I had not searched, the parking lot. I slowly approached the parking lot and by this time most of the students had left. it was starting to get dark and at this point, I could see five figures in the distance. three of the figures appeared to be attempting to separate the other two. slowly, I etched closer but stopped in my tracks at what I heard. " you better tell me why you are so interested in her or else you will have to contend with me." Miles was saying and he sounded so scary. his voice was cold. the other figure pushed him away and said, " Are you trying to intimidate me?" Noah said just as coldly. he was about to say more when he turned around and spotted me. the scowl he was wearing on his face melted into a warm smile. I stepped closer to the group suspiciously glancing at all of them before blurting out, "Let's go eat." " real dude?" Max and Alex said in unison before saying at the same time, "Stop copying me." " quit coping with me, no, you stop, stop." "All alright the both of you shut up," Seth said and the pair immediately fell silent
