Steve

The day dragged on. Steve Derren sat at the back of the math classroom, nearly asleep. Steve wasn't necessarily a good student, and John Coleman High wasn't necessarily a good school. Steve usually worked hard and payed attention, but the school year was coming to an end and all the teachers were just reviewing for the finals.

Steve learned a long time ago that when it came to tests, he couldn't do much to improve his grades on tests. No matter how much he studied, he lost all concentration and focus when the test started.

Luckily, it was the final class of the day. The only thing that prevented Steve from slipping into insanity was the minute hand on the clock, slowly crawling towards the 12-hour mark. Only 10 more minutes left before the day was over.

Mr. Clarence stood in front of the old-fashioned chalkboard at the head of the room. He scribbled away at some equation or another, ignoring Jackson Lederman's raised hand. Lauren Harrison typed and texted on her phone, hidden below the desk. Meredith von Albrechtsen was drawing another picture in her sketchbook. Just another typical school day.
