A Little Escape

Two weeks before the event, Ben started calling Mina several times a day. He asked to meet for lunch, asked when the event would be, asked if they would decide on the next wedding date. Mina was able to avoid most of them, Clay lied telling him that Mina was always in a meeting.

Unfortunately, Mina had to agree to meet Ben for lunch after he threatened to come to her workplace. She was forced to endure an hour of him bragging about his business dealings or grilling her about her family. Every time, she arrived without one of them or if they hadn't shown up before they left, his face would fall.

The old Mina would have allowed his reaction to put her down but not the new Mina. Every time he looked disappointed it was another boast to her confidence, she had to try very hard not to show her smirk.

"The jerk is calling again! It's like the fifth time this morning," Clay sighed.

They were currently in her office going over some paperwork. Mina's sigh mimicked Clays as she looked over at him. His constant calls were getting to her and she was close to changing her number, but every time she thought of it she quickly changed her mind. The thought of the look on his face when she revealed everything, kept her going.

"Tell him that Mina won't be available all week," Aiden called out as he walked in.

Without waiting for an explanation Clay left to answer the call whilst Mina raised her eyes at him. Aiden smirked and came up to kiss her. She pushed him back gently smiling up at him.

"Daniel has cleared your calendar for the week," he explained as he took a seat on one of her meeting chairs.

Mina's smile turned into one of confusion as she continued to stare at him. When it looked like Aiden wasn't in any hurry to explain, she stood up and took the seat across from him.

"Why has Daniel cleared my calendar, Aiden?" she asked.

Aiden smirked at her as he linked his hands together. He looked as cool as a cucumber sitting there and it made Mina's heart thumped. She longed to sit in his lap and kiss him senseless as he had done to her so many times.

"Because you, my dear wife, are coming with me," he smirked.

"Where to?" Mina asked eagerly.

"Well, we got married just over a month ago and I realised that I haven't done something very important," he started leaning forward with a smirk. "I haven't given you a honeymoon."

Mina's blushed as she bit her lip.

"You don't have to do that," she told him, getting up so she could hide her face.

Aiden stood and pulled her to him. Her body crushed against his as she melted into him. Mina sighed before her hands moved up his chest to push him slightly back.

"Aiden, someone could come in," she chastised him with a smile.

"I don't care," he said capturing her mouth with his in a tender kiss. "Everyone is going to find out soon enough anyway. They will just find out sooner," he chuckled.

Mina playfully slapped him with a chuckle. Instead of pulling away like she had planned to do Mina wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down for a slow kiss.

"Seriously though Aiden, we are both far too busy to just up and leave. Maybe we should plan for something in a few months," she suggested, ever the practical woman.

Aiden smiled at her and shook his head.

"Grandmother and I have been planning it for a week already. She and Daniel will cover everything for me and Clay will do the same for you," he kissed her. "It's all set, all you have to do is go home and pack."

Several hours later, Mina was sitting comfortably on a private jet across from Aiden. He handed her a glass of champagne and they clinked glasses. Mina felt giddy as the plane started to move.

"Where are we going?" she asked curiously.

He shook his head, tapped his nose and laughed as she pouted. Aiden's laugh increased as she turned from him and crossed her arms. She stared out the window with that pout still in place. However, after a few hours, Mina relaxed into her chair and drifted off.

Aiden shook her awake several hours later as the plane started to descend. When she looked out the window again she gasped. Wide eyes turned to Aiden.

"Paris?"

He smiled and nodded, pleased by her reaction.

"I've always wanted to come here, I had planned to with Ben after graduation but he changed the plans. Instead, we went to an amusement park for the day. He said that the money we would have wasted on the trip could be used for better things," Mina sighed.

"Better things like what?" Aiden asked though he had a sneaky suspicion he knew the answer.

"His company. He used that money and money I had saved up to save his family's failing business."

Mina didn't appear affected by the memory but Aiden was seething. He couldn't understand how a man could do that.

"Did he at least ask you to use the money for his families company?"

Mina shook her head, too enthralled by the view to notice his reaction.

"No, he just did it. Even to this day, I have no idea how he managed to get a hold of my account information. After that day, he said he should be in control of our finances as I couldn't be trusted. The Paris trip was just a prime example of how frivolous with the money I was."

Mina had used her hands to make quotation marks when she said the word 'frivolous' like she was mimicking someone. Aiden could imagine Ben doing exactly that.

"Thankfully, much to his annoyance, he could only access the money I had saved and not my inheritance money. That was an account only I could access and I had to explain every transaction. If the bank felt it was for anything other than for me to pay regular bills, then they had the authority to refuse. It was a rule made by my grandmother. Ben's face hadn't been pretty when we had gone to the bank to try and get him access. I knew it wouldn't work but he was adamant."

Mina turned to him with a wide smirk on her face, Aiden returned it. Then the pilot announced they were landing and that a car would be waiting to take them to their lodgings.

Mina had assumed it would have been a hotel they would stay at but she had been wrong. They pulled up outside a quaint small house overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Mina gasped at everything she saw, it was like she couldn't take any of it in.

"Aiden, this is too much!" she whispered against the window.

With a smile, he came up to wrap his arms around her waist from behind. He gently kissed her neck and pulled her tightly against him.

"It's just right."

Mina instantly turned in his embrace and crashed her lips to his in a heated kiss. She poured everything she was feeling in that moment, even if it felt too soon to say it she hoped he could feel the depths of her emotions for him.

She gently pushed him backwards until he reached the bed. Aiden smirked against her as she hurriedly worked at his clothes. Gone was the shy little mouse from their first time, now she knew what she wanted and he couldn't have been happier.
