114 Festival de Cannes (part 3)

Arriving in France we exited the jet and were greeted by number of high end cars that you didn't see everyday. Each had it's own personal driver and could seat six people each. A limo would have been easier if you asked me, but I guess this is how the rich in high society really flexed on others. I sat in a car with Rob, Barbara, Helena, and also Shane and his guest while the rest of the cast and crew invited were driven in other cars. The driver didn't speak a word the whole way and kept his face forward. The only time he had talked to us was when he had opened the doors for us when we were about to get in. Even then it was just a smile and a "I hope you had a comfortable flight".

Arriving at Cannes Film Festival the driver got out and opened the door facing the entrance of the event. Many paparazzi with cameras were waiting outside in hopes to take a picture of the many celebrities and directors attending. Stepping out with Barbara on my arm, I flashed a smile as the camera lights flickered repeatedly. The sounds of the shutters were nothing new to me and so I kept my composure as I walked up to the doors where a man was waiting having opened them up for us.

Looking back, I saw Rob following my lead. I could tell he was nervous due to this being a first for him, but Helena worked over time to make him look as good as possible. She expertly held his arm in a way that straitened his back and would look over at him from time to time to keep his gaze upward and off the ground. The more I saw of her, the more I was sure she was a high profile person and likely to be the Huntress I thought she was.

At this time as we were about to head to our movie showing, I heard the cameras behind us flashing even faster than they had been for us as many began to call out to the person who had just stepped out of the car. Looking at the person in question I had no idea who she was, but apparently she was here for her own movie and was a well known actress in this universe.

"Rita, look this way please" I heard a man say as he took at least twenty pictures per second.

"Rita, Is it true you have never been kissed before? Not even on set?" a woman asked as she held a pen and paper while her male colleague was snapping away with his camera. Everyone was trying to get her attention, but she only answered one or two questions while ignoring the rest.

Her entrance was leagues different than ours and I was a bit envious. I wasn't totally surprised though, most probably didn't even know who we were. It was to be expected for now. Our director Shane had gotten most of the attention as we had walked in, we were probably just photo backdrops.

"Ah, Rita Farr. She's a looker alright. Still not as pretty as my date though" Rob said as he looked in the direction of my gaze.

Feeling the weight on my arm, I tore my gaze away from the pretty brunette named Rita Farr and looked at the redhead next to me. "Nor mine" I said as we moved along to where we needed to be. Barbara smiled softly at my words.

Moving away from the entrance, Shane directed us to his personal theatre showing of 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang'. The poster outside the door was of me and Rob as our characters in the movie. The poster said 'Sex. Murder. Mystery.' then it said our names and below that were the words 'Welcome to the party!' and lastly the title of the film. Rob was on the left side of the poster and I was on the right.

Entering through the theatre doors we went to our reserved seats and sat down. Looking around, we were the first people to arrive. It was probably because the time of the showing hadn't started yet. I could tell Rob was the most excited and nervous of the cast that had come. This was his first movie in this world and the start of his career. It was to be expected. If anything I probably seemed odd to those around me considering my calm composure.

Shane was even more laid back than me as he sat and waited while writing some things down in his personal digital assistant (pda) something as far as I knew, didn't exist anymore in the future I came from. Smart phones had made the technology pretty much obsolete.

With my future knowledge of both this world and mine I could probably make a lot of money if I invested in certain companies. If I make enough money in the future I considered investing in Wayne Enterprises, Social media websites, and apple. I could maybe also influence future technology trends if I own enough stock and become a major shareholder of those companies.

As I was thinking about other possible investments, people started to walk in and take their seats. This continued until the theatre room was full. I wondered how many people were here to judge the film and how many were just everyday movie critics getting their early showings.

Shane appeared to know a couple of the people and would often be approached and talked to by fellow directors and writers in the business since we had arrived and even as people started to seat themselves. The man had many connections due to his previous work and it was my great fortune on my part to work under him on this film.

Finally the lights started to fade and the movie started to play. It opened with Rob's character monologue as he introduced two of the main characters of the movie and gave a bit of backstory. The movie showed a young boy magician sawing a young girl in half unsupervised for a small backyard audience at what appeared to be a child's party.

When the young boy sawed the girl in the box in half and her blood curdling scream echoed through the theatre, many of the viewers gasped and some even looked away in horror. The created atmosphere was short lived though and the relief in the audience was felt once they realized the girl was just putting on an act and hadn't actually been cut.

The movies start had already started to move the audiences emotions and that was a good sign. If a movie did not entertain and or move emotions, it was usually an indicator of a bad movie.
