Chapter 4

Mistoffelees jolted awake, hearing his tribe singing.

How long have I been sleeping for?

He crawled out of the black pipe, stood up and looked at the full jellicle moon, shining its light onto him.

Night 2, hopefully it won't be as bad as the first night was.

Mistoffelees checked himself and to his relief, his wounds had healed while he was asleep. Forgetting about Plato and his little gang, Mistoffelees rushed into the center of the junkyard, dancing gracefully beside Victoria once more.

As he was dancing, Mistoffelees noticed that Plato, Admetus and Pouncival were watching, giving him dirty looks. Deciding to ignore those dirty looks, he focused on Victoria. After the song was over, Mistoffelees and Victoria stood beside each other, breathing hard.

"That was fun," said Mistoffelees, with his tongue out.

"It definitely was," agreed Victoria, pulling herself up to Mr. Mistoffelees's chest.

"So where were you last night? I was waiting for you at the black pipe, but you never came".

I guess I better tell her the truth.

"Do you really want to know?".

"Of course I want to know!" whispered Victoria.

"You probably won't believe me, But I'll tell you anyway," whispered Mistoffelees.

He slipped his arms around Victoria's waist.

"After you left to go talk to your friends, Plato, Admetus, and Pouncival, came over to me and started scratching, punching and saying mean things. Plato said that I apparently stole you and that I'm not worthy of having you as my mate. Then after they left, I was a bloody mess and I heard you coming over to the black pipe, so I disguised my scent with mud and hid inside the pipe. I was a terrible mess and I didn't want you seeing me like that" quietly explained Mistoffelees.

Victoria looked at him in horror.

"P-Plato wouldn't do that, he's pretty nice. He wouldn't hurt anybody except Macavity," replied Victoria.

"But he did-".

Victoria put her index finger up to Mr. Mistoffelees's lips.

"Misto, I'm not here for you to tell me stories" interrupted Victoria.

"I'm here to spend time with you, but I want you to tell me the truth. So-".

" Plato's gang did beat him up last night!" interrupted Munkustrap. Victoria pulled away from Mistoffelees and glared at him.

 "I watched the whole thing".

"If Plato really did beat up Misto, then why didn't you do something?" asked Victoria, putting her hands on her hips.

"Because it was Misto's fight, not mine," said Munkustrap, taking his gaze off of Victoria and focusing on Mistoffelees.

"There you are Misto! I wondered where you went off to!" said Plato, coming up behind Mistoffelees and putting an arm around his left shoulder.

"I wanted to ask you if you wanted to switch partners?".

Mr. Mistoffelees shrugged Plato's arm off of him.

"Why do you want to switch partners with Misto?" challenged Munkustrap.

"Because I was going to be with Victoria this year, but Misto got to her before I could, "explained Plato.

"I thought you were with Jemima this year?".

"I was only talking to her, I-".

"HOW DARE YOU!".

Plato turned around to look at Jemima's heated face.

"I thought you really did love me, but I guess NOT!" said Jemima, feeling a knife of pain in her chest.

Jemima went up to Plato's face.

"You're a cheater, like-".

 "Me".

 Interrupted Macavity.

He jumped down to where Plato, Victoria, Mistoffelees, Jemima and Munkustrap were.

Victoria got behind Mistoffelees and Jemnia leapt into Munkustap's arms, still remembering Plato's betrayal.

"Now there's a cat that's just like me. Unlike that coward over there," said Macavity, glaring at Mistoffelees, who was puffing up to his chest in annoyance.

"Plato, you're the cat I need on my side. You're smart, tricky and a good fighter. I saw you and your gang beat up Mistoffelees last night. I have to admit, I was impressed".

 Victoria gasped.

"And you know we both don't like Mistoffelees, so that's another thing we have in common," said Macavity, with his voice sounding cold as ice shards.

"So, will you join me?".

Plato looked at Macavity with shock covering his face.

"Over my dead body. I will never join you. We are not alike at ALL" hissed Plato.

"Oh, that's a shame," said Macavity, in a sarcastic voice as he got closer to Plato.

"Because now I'm going to-".

 BOOM!

Mr. Mistoffelees hit Macavity with a bolt of lightning, sending sparks right out of his paws.

Macavity fell back onto the ground. Plato looked at Mistoffelees in astonishment.

"Um, thanks Misto" said Plato, awkwardly.

Macavity got up again.

"Clearly, I have to teach my son a lesson".

Macavity shot a lightning bolt at Mistoffelees, but missed him, hitting a small pile of junk. Mistoffelees shot a couple more of lightning bolts at Macavity, hitting his target while Macavity himself was sending lightning bolts nowhere near Mistoffelees.

While Mistoffelees's back was turned, a circle of fire surrounded Plato, Jemima, Munkustrap, and Victoria, trapping them with heat. Mistoffelees continued to chase away Macavity with lightning bolts, not noticing the blaze of fire.

"Is there any water nearby?" panicked Jemima.

"Do you SEE any water near us?" said Plato, being sarcastic.

"Even if there was any water source nearby, we wouldn't be able to reach us because we're surrounded by a wall of fire".

"And you won't last long in there," said a familiar voice.

 The four cats looked around.

Suddenly they spotted a cat coming out of the shadows.

"Since there's no water close by, you'll all die in there!" cackled Growltiger, holding an empty gasoline can in one paw.

It's a gas fire!, thought Munkustrap.

He murmured something in Plato's ear and then put Jemnia down. "Growltiger, do you realize that you can't put out a gas-fire with water," said Munkustrap.

"What do you mean? Water can put any fire out!" explained Growltiger.

Instantly, Victoria, Plato, Jemima and Munkustap kicked up fresh dirt into the fire, putting it out quickly. Then Munkustrap jumped onto Growltiger, slashing him with his claws. Growltiger managed to get free from him and started to crawl away.

"Munkustrap, shall we finish him off?" asked Plato, holding a half empty gasoline can.

"No, just leave him. He's just an old cat that was left as prey to Macavity," said Munkustrap.

"Like Grisabella?" piped up Jemima.

Munkustrap turned to face Jemnia with a frown.

"In a way, yes. Just with a slightly different story".

Mistoffelees came back and joined his friends again.

"Macavity's gone," reported Mistoffelees, with a smile of relief. Victoria rushed up to him and jumped into his arms with excitement.

"Are you okay?" asked Mistoffelees, holding Victoria up to his chest.

"I'm fine now that you're here," replied Victoria, romantically. Mistoffelees felt his cheeks turn red.

Munkustrap pushed Plato over to Mistoffelees.

"I believe this one has something to say to you," said Munkustap.

Mistoffelees put Victoria down.

"Ok, I admit it, I'm sorry," said Plato, angrily with his arms crossed.

"Sorry for what?" pressed Munkustrap.

"I'm sorry that I beated you up".

"And?".

"And I promise not to do it again," said Plato, rolling his eyes.

"Now go tell Jemima that you're sorry," hissed Munkustrap, angrily.

Plato sighed loudly and went on over to her. Mistoffelees realized that the rest of the tribe was starting to come out again.

"Did you tell Plato that if he said sorry to me, he wouldn't get punished?" asked Mistoffelees.

"Yep". "And will he get punished?".

" Yep" said Munkustrap, with a smirk on his face.
