10 CH 10 - Exploring the lab - 3

Carrion crawled up to it, his body touching the cold metal, shuddering from the freezing cold sensation the metal give back as if all heat has eluded it. Maybe the metal wasn't just normal steel but some kind of special metal. The cold didn't gave him too much trouble as he quickly pulled away ,and the coldness wasn't actively freezing him , it just seem to not absorb any heat at all.

He tried to push the heavy and massive door but as expected nothing happened. He look for another way to open it relying on the logic that : "if it's a sliding door there must be something to control it". He looked around, looking up , and immediately he found a clue : a card scanner-looking device was mounted on the wall. It had a transparent crystal-like screen, It seems that if he wanted to open the door , he would need a card or a ticket of some kind, like an access card that you usually see in games ; but where would he find that in this broken down, barren place with nothing but a few rats and an endless line of incubators ?

' I guess something like an employee's card or an access card is needed to open the door. Ugh, why does a fantasy world even have technologies like these ? Though it is very interesting that I'm seeing things like these here, guess it's not the strangest thing I've seen ', Carrion thought as he think back to himself.

His hope of potentially escaping right away has been crushed, so he does feel a bit disappointed, but it's nothing that he hadn't expected. There are still places in the room he hadn't explored, and there's still an exit that he could try later. With his goal of becoming stronger before exiting this place, the prospects of devouring more prey is much more enticing than simply exiting this place just to remain as a grotesque monster.

With the door being out of the question, Carrion turned to his right to continue exploring the room.

The wall on his left also have the same glass window that allows the researchers to look through, this room does seem like it needs a lot of monitoring with all the incubators.

Continuing on his walk, there's still an endless line of incubators on his way, filled with the same green liquid that is in every tank. Carrion questioned how they have managed to achieved all this with a fantasy world setting which is usually medieval, but then he remembered he doesn't know shit about this world other than the fact that there's magic and that he's a damn monster. Information is critically important to figure out what he need to do to survive at this place and he would need a whole lot more than what the other guy give him. And for the question how they achieved all this, maybe they are more technologically advanced than he thought, or maybe it's just this singular organization that is ahead of everyone else. 

There's no use thinking about something like that right now; Carrion refocus his attention to the scene in front of him : a pack of the rats before appear before him, this time there were both the white variant and black variant. They numbered to 7 : 3 white and 4 black; Carrion wonder how he would go about this , he cant simply rush in and use Devour as they are quite a distance from each other so Devour cant get all of them at once.

' Maybe I'll need to create a distraction ,but what can I use ? '

After looking around and checking his status screen , Carrion came up with a simple plan : use his Corrosive Blood to launch blood at some of them to take them down immediately, then for the ones that didn't got hit , he will use Bite to temporarily immobilize them and finally finish them off with Devour.

This plan is built upon the premonition that he know how to use them, which he had done so after his encounter with the first rat. He thought that if he wants to hunt efficiently , he'll have to get used to using his skills. He had found out that using Corrosive Blood will make him spew blood from one of the mouths on his body, it also use some of his HP because it is shooting his blood out, and fortunately it doesn't use any MP . And for Bite, its quite similar to Devour in that it launches his body forward and use one of the mouths which have been empowered by the skill to bite his prey. The difference is that the skill will not change his body shape to completely surround the prey as with Devour, so it is only a normal attack skill.

Now that he has a plan, albeit a simple and limited one, all that is left is for him to put it into action. Carrion started by crawling closer to the pack, they have not seen him yet so carrion continued to get closer until..

"Corrosive Blood!"

Many streams of blood spew out, hitting 3 of the rats head on , searing part of their skin off until there was only bones left; it was super effective ! The rest of the rats got alarmed and started to look at his way, they immediately sprint towards him with murderous intent. Carrion carefully observe their movement , waiting for the perfect moment to use Bite, as one of the white ones got closer it opened its mouth and lunge at him. Carrion waste no time and swiftly use Bite on the rat, his perfect timing of skill resulted in a clean hit on the rat's neck , completely ripped it's neck off it's body.

There are still three rats left, still charging at him, Corrosive Blood have a long cooldown so it cannot be used right now, so Bite and Devour is all he has left. Devour may be an incredibly powerful skill with a guaranteed chance of killing but it does have its downside, that is while Devouring something, he cannot move or use any other skills , so when there's multiple enemies attacking him, being unable to use his other skill is just asking to get hit.

This time all three of them are charging at Carrion at the same time, Carrion could only silently wait for the opportune time to strike. Right then, as if the lady luck was smiling at him, the rats change their position to be right next to each other . If he could smile right now , he would have a big grin on his face; 'The time is now' , he thought as he prepare to use his signature skill.

"Devour!"

As soon as the skill was used , tentacles of flesh and sinew launches out from his body in a spiral and captures the three charging rats in its forming maw . The small creatures tried to force its way out but it's struggling was futile, seconds later , the fleshy maw abruptly closed , burying the small creatures in it maw with the crushing force of a ravaging beast.

The hunt has ended.
