Cardfall Battlefield

"In the legends of old, people told of ancient gods. Powerful beings who did everything. The pyramids? A task by the gods. Stonehenge? A spot to worship the gods. In modern times, gods were simply dismissed as fantasy. We should have payed more attention. Why would an ancient race who invented half the stuff we use, such as Greece, be foolish enough to believe in fake gods? Well, the answer came to all of us. Soon, the sky were filled with blue cards. We learned that there were gods back then, just not in the form we thought." The year is 2050. James Donovan was out on the streets, wondering how life could destroy a person so utterly. When suddenly, blue cards started falling from the sky. At first, this was deemed as unimportant. That was until the first battle broke out. Soon, everyone knew the value of these simple cards. Everyone found out just how deadly these simple cards were. James Donovan was a man used to life cutting him short. With these cards, he wasn't going to tolerate that anymore. Power and wealth was a few games away. All he had to do was win.

Deceiver

James ran to the blue glint as fast as he could, ignoring the pain from his previous mugging. If this turned out to be interesting, James would do anything to see it through. He never admitted it to anyone, but he was always very reckless with interesting things. Right now he was full of worry of what this all could be, but his interest made him disregard his worry.

James figured that if all this amounted to something, all the blue cards, decks, all of it, getting as much perks as possible seemed like the most prudent course of action. So, he ran to the blue glint, hoping for luck to finally be in his side.

when he was finally in range of the blue glint, he saw that it was in fact a blue card. What he didn't see before he closed the distance, was the fact that it was in the hands of someone else. When he noticed the person, he slowed down, walking towards them casually, like he just happened to be there. He could here the other person muttering quietly.

"Weird. Man, sis is gonna love this. Let me see, what deck should I get? Oh, legendary knights? That sounds cool!" The stranger muttered.

"Excuse me!" Said James loudly.

the stranger jumped. The stranger turned towards James, which finally gave James a good look at the stranger. Surprisingly, the stranger was female, although the way they talked seemed male to James. James cleared his throat, trying to be nonchalant and unawkward.

"Oh! Sorry to disturb you, I was just wandering by when I saw you with one of those cards. I actually found one myself." James stated, in a hopefully friendly manner.

The girl visibly relaxed, but still had her guard up, because stranger danger.

"Oh, yeah. Nice to meetcha. You found one of these? Cool, I happened upon three of them! Isn't that crazy? What are these things anyway?" The girl said, barely pausing for breath.

James was immediately taken aback from how the girl talked. It was like listening to an automatic gun speak, all questions hitting like shots, but too fast to barely comprehend. When James was able to sort the questions out in his mind, he gave what he hoped was a very cunning answer.

"Whoa, slow down! Let me answer. *ahem* Yes, I found one of those blue cards. Floated down almost right in front of me! As to what those things are, I couldn't tell you. However, when used, they give you the deck you chose. I don't know what the deck is used for yet, but I'm certain that it would be interesting to find out. You found three you say?" James supplied, waiting for the right moment.

"Yeah! When I discovered the whole 'deck' thing, I decided I would use one of the cards and bring another to my sister. We could both get decks outta it! I also wanted to see what would happen If I used two of these cards, since it said I could only get one deck!" The girl said, enthusiasm bubbling out of her. James wasn't a fan of enthusiasm. On most days he could handle it, but today was not one of those days. However, the girl gave him his opening.

"Oh, that's wonderful! However, I'll just say this now. When you use another one of those cards, the card disappears, and gives you nothing. I know this because I actually found two cards. One I used for myself and the other I attempted to use for my sister. Found out the hard way that's not how it works. So, I've actually been looking for another card so I could just hand it over to my sister so she could try this out. If you would be so kind, may I have that extra third card?" James said, hoping his ploy would work, while congratulating himself on not being greedy and trying to swindle the other two cards out of her. He was cunning, not an asshole.

The girl looked at James for a moment. Then she smiled and handed him a card she had stashed away.

"Ok, I'll bite. Here, go give this to your sis ok? Oh, I'm Ebony by the way. I hope you get what ya want." Ebony said, looking ecstatic. It seemed she really enjoyed helping people. Or maybe she was just happy in general.

"Oh this poor naive girl. It almost makes me feel bad. So, I'll give her a lesson in helping other's" James thought, his face becoming a mock frown before turning upward into a pretty evil smile.

"Thank you. Don't worry, I got exactly what I want." James said, his voice becoming slightly sinister.

James immediately picked a random deck. The girl's smile disappeared and changed into a look of confusion.

"Wha-"

"I'm sorry, but you have already selected a deck. We see that you are already aware of the consolation condition, so based on past preferences, we will now select a random perk for you once again. This message will not appear again, you will automatically receive a random perk the next time. Selecting perk." Said the automated voice.

Ebony looked at James with something akin to disgust.

"THAT'S what you wanted the card for!? You lying scum! I bet you don't even have a sister! How did I fall for that!?"

Ok, maybe James was a BIT of an asshole.

"Perk selected. The perk you received was "True Liar"! When this perk is activated, you can change one of your cards to another card in your deck, to be used only once per game." The voice stated.

James raised his eyebrow at that name. If he didn't know any better, he would say that name was on purpose.

"Well, at least it's a fitting name." Ebony said viciously. James really didn't care.

James was about to say something when his phone went off. This instantly worried James, for his phone was set to only go off when some really important breaking news was happening, and only if it involved his area or the world. James grabbed his phone and looked at the breaking news message. It instantly froze him.

"Warning! Warning! Dangerous cards falling from the sky! Be wary, for these cards can be extremely dangerous! When used, they can result In death!"
