1 A distant memory

"Is that the new student?.....so handsome!!!!"

Walking through the entrance of the school, Zhang Yuqi heard a crowd of girls excitedly whispering, gathered around a tall unfamiliar figure.

'A new student?', she thought and continued on her way. The day rolled along as usual. After a few hours, she walked towards the school gardens for spending the recess. Ever since that accident 12 years ago, she had lost all her motivation and became detached from the world. The open sky and scattered rose bushes gave her a time of comfort amidst the chaos. Walking to her usual spot, she found it occupied, and it was the new student?

"Hey....could you sit somewhere else?", she asked to the boy who sat there with his back towards her.

He turned to face her. '.....', Zhang Yuqi was speechless. This was the first time she saw such pretty eyes on a boy. Deep and shining, like stars in the twilight. Milky skin and a charming smile. She felt her heart race and her face flush. 'Is this love at first sight? Is that really possible?'. She looked at him with widened eyes. Lost.

"Ummm....Hi!...I needed some space so I came here...hello???"

That was when she realized the awkward situation. She moved her eyes away from his face and took a deep breath to calm herself down. "Ah?....Oh..it's alright!...I'll just sit somewhere else..".

Flustered, she turned around and walked in the opposite direction. After a few steps, she tripped on a stone and fell, headfirst on the ground. And that, was the start of her 10 years of one-sided love.

But in those beautiful memories is the most painful reality, he had never loved her, he had never known her feelings and she was still waiting for that person to turn around and hold her hand. He was the only ray of light in those years and her only belief of a happy life. Yuqi had always held herself back from telling him her feelings because she wanted him to love her without being burdened by her confession. She believed that time would bring them together and so she waited, waited for him to come to her. But it was all a wishful dream.

She knew, she would still get drunk today, cry herself to sleep and then go back to loving him tomorrow again, like the numerous times before.
