The Road to Hell

"So tell me what happened out there today at the accident." Said, Detective Wong.

Cian looked the Detective in the eyes and said "Lawyer."

"Come on kid. If you did nothing wrong you don't need a lawyer." Said the Detective.

"I am taking my legal right to remain silent until my lawyer is here to advise me."

After that Cian didn't say another word. After the first hour of him not saying anything more the detective left. Cian began to focus on the link between himself and Koray. He could feel her concern and fear.

"{{Can you hear me?}}" Cian reached out with his mind.

"{{Yes! I didn't know we could do this.}}" Koray said in her mind.

"{{Neither did I. I know you are scared. So am I. Just don't say anything and wait for my lawyer to get here.}}" Said Cian.

"{{I have a lawyer too. Let's see whose lawyer gets here first.}}" Said Koray.

Cian and Koray sat in silence as they waited. Cian learned that Koray had been questioned like he was but she also said nothing. Her dad always said to only talk to the police when their lawyer said so. The two of them talked back and forth keeping each other calm as they waited. The police watched the two from the other side of the two-way mirror.

"Sorry captain. They both lawyered up." Said, Detective Wong.

"Is it just me or did they both smile at the same time just now." Said the Captain. Two detectives and their captain were watching the live videos from the interrogation rooms. None of them knew the two were communicating with each other and just shared a private joke.

"They must be talking to each other some way." Said Detective White.

"I would tell you are wrong due to the enchantments on the rooms to prevent that but honestly from the expressions on their faces I think you are right." Said Captain Benoit.

"We should go back in there with Gray. I bet we can get him to talk." Said Detective White aggressively. "He has a record and we can lean on him and break him."

"His record is sealed on the federal level and we need a court order to open them." Said the Captain. Detectives Wong and White looked at their Captain.

"Talk to judge Davis. She will probably help you unseal those files with what happened today."

The two Detectives left the room and the Captain watched the two casters on his screen.

"Fucking mages."

It was another thirty minutes before both lawyers arrived at the same time. Both of them worked for two of the most powerful law firms in the country. Megan Stocks who was Cian Gray's lawyer worked for Brass and Burns. They did a lot of work for political figures and their children. Steven Driver worked for The Law Office of Greenberg, Kingdom, and Hobbs. That law firm handled people with money. Only the top 1% of the world could afford their services. The lawyers first spoke to their clients. Then asked if their clients were under arrest. Neither Cian nor Koray were arrested or suspected of a crime so the police just let them both go but did ask that neither leave the country. A car was waiting for both Koray and Cian when they left the police station. Their lawyers didn't let them talk to each other on the way out but they did see each other. They could feel how each other was feeling but left without any trouble. Once in the car, Cian saw that Jason was driving.

"So are you going to ask what happened?" asked Cian.

"Nope. Why ask you when I have seen it from 20 different angles online and 4 different angles on the news"

Cian groaned but pulled up the news on his phone. It had been less than two hours and everything was blasted on the news. The video clearly showed Cian and Koray using their magic to protect the paramedics and attack the masked man. Just when Cian didn't think it could get any worse it did. The news report interrupted their current story with news of an organization taking credit for the attack on the California paramedics. They called themselves the Noble Eclipse. They released their manifesto and Cian turned off his feed.

"Damn it, Jason. This is not what we need right now." Said Cian.

"Ever since the necromancers outed the magical world there has been groups trying to dominate the world with magic. They will die off like the rest." Said Jason.

"Yeah but this time they have me standing against them on video. My dad and mom are going to catch a lot of hell for this. I wasn't trying to be a hero. I was just couldn't stand by and not help" Said Cian.

"Don't worry. I am sure your dad will understand." Said Jason.

Cian's phone began to ring. Cian looked down at it as saw that it was his father calling. Cian began to panic. Cian could only sit there and look at his phone. Fear welled up in his chest and he couldn't bring himself to answer.

"You should answer your dad. He is probably worried about you." Said Jason.

Cian's phone went to voice mail. A moment later Cian got a text. It was from Koray.

'Hey, are you okay. I could feel fear coming from you. Send me a message back and let me know you are okay. I would call but my lawyer is here with me and he is giving me the third degree. I will call you after. 😊'

Cian smiled down at the text. He felt a little more settled until he got a text from his mother.

'Your dad and I just saw the news. We are worried about you. Call us tonight when you have time. If you don't I will be on the first flight out there. Mom.'

"That was my mom. She says to call or she is flying out."

"Sounds like your mom. Make sure to call when we get home. Knowing her she is already looking at flight information." Said Jason.

Cian struggled with his feeling. He knew Samantha was the root of the problem he has with his folks but wasn't sure if he was ready to forgive them yet.

"I am still hurt Jason. They believe Samantha over me their own son." Said Cian.

"She fooled a lot of people son. Holding on to the hate will only poison you." Said Jason.

Cian still loved his parents but he was still angry with them. For so long he suffered under Samantha tumb but his parents couldn't or wouldn't see he was suffering. Maybe they were too busy with their lives to notice or maybe they didn't care. Neither thought sat well with Cian.

"I want to move past it Jason but I am not sure how." Said Cian.

When Cian and Jason arrived home Cian went to his room. He took a shower and sat on his bed. He stared at his phone. Cian then opened his contact list and stared at his father's number. He then pressed the phone icon to call his father.
