Koray's Lament

Koray is the youngest daughter of three children in the Chapel family. In the supernatural world, the Chapels are notorious for making deals. Most believe making a deal with the Chapels means selling their soul but, no souls are used in their deals. Lucius Artorius Chapel is a shrewd businessman. Lucius and his wife Elana Monroe Chapel have been at the top of the business world for over one hundred years. Before magic became public they would change their identities often. Then a group of necromancers revealed to the world that magic and the supernatural were real. Since then the Chapels have been out and open. Some would think making a deal with a hellspawn would slow down business but in reality, it only increased their popularity. The eldest Chapel child Evelynne Chapel followed her parents' example. At the age of 26, she has earned a name in the business world...Queen of hell. Ziocor the second child is a family disappointment. Ziocor could care less about the family business and only wishes to live his life his way. He has been an influencer, barista, poet, security guard, and bartender. Currently, he is attending Hillcrest College. And then there was Koray. It was at the age of nine that her magical powers kicked in. It happened on her birthday and ever since then, it was tutor after tutor. Constant magical training with the best teachers money could afford. The only time her parents saw her was twice a year. Once on her birthday and again on Christmas. Her brother Ziocor was her best friend growing up till he left at the age of 18. Even when he was gone he called her every other day and was her rock in the tough times. When Koray turned 18 she informed her parents that she will be attending College on the Westcoast. Koray vowed that she would be the master of her destiny.

Koray marched back to the campus and was so worked up she didn't hear someone call her name. "Koray!!" A hand reached out and tugged at her shoulder. Koray turned around with power radiating off of her. "Woah there sugar. What is wrong with you?" Koray spun around to see her roommate Simone. Simone was a busty half succubus with long black hair with a strand of indigo on her left side and a fast friend. "I am sorry Simone," Koray said as she released her power. "I had a rough day." Simone throws her arm around her friend. "It is okay sugar you can make it up to me later. Let go home." Koray looks out towards the woods she left behind. Simone follows her gaze. "Hey, you alright honey?" Simone looked out into the woods trying to see what was haunting Koray. The only odd thing she noted was that there seemed to be a slight mist hanging around the trees. Then she noticed a boy with a sleeveless shirt and jeans. "Ooh, I want to butter his biscuit." Koray turned her eyes on her friend and said "Simone please...anyone but him." "Don't have a hissy fit. That boy is tall, dark, and delicious and I want a piece." Simone says with a laugh. Koray glares at Simone. "Alright, alright. I won't." Simone crosses her heart with her finger. 'I swear on my Nana's grave." Koray sighed. "Let's go girl. I could use a shower." Koray turned from the woods and headed home.

Koray was able to buy a home not far from the college but using her trust fund she was able to make some additions. She paid a little extra to get a home with a bomb shelter and a practice range. It took a little extra money to change it for spell casting but she didn't care how much it cost her family. They had money to spare. Koray's main type of magic was focused on hexes and hellfire. As a witch, she could curse and alter luck to a degree but those with powerful cores could resist both of those from her. Cores had different names in different cultures. Some call it Ki, chakra, focus, spirits, but in technical writings, they are cores. Cores determine elemental resistances and power. Elements would be strong to some magic and weaker to others. So someone whose core is strong vs Ice could be weak to Fire but that isn't always true. There are 6 base elements. Earth, wind, fire, water, light, and darkness with earth being the most common and darkness being the rarest of the base elements. There are sub-elements but only those with more than one element can manifest one. Elemental attributes are defined by a person's species and a person's core. For Koray, her curse powers are a sub-element of the mind but a part of a trained caster class. For someone's main element to be a subcategory, they are known as geniuses. Her hellfire is innate. So for training Koray need to focused on the mind and body. Constant mental and physical training to be able to use her powers. As her trained powers affected the mind her parents acquired a training sphere. It was a magical device that reacted to mental magic by floating near the caster. The longer the caster focuses on the sphere the harder it is to move. Think of it as a light weight that gets heavier the longer you hold it up. Koray's workout routine would have her focus on the sphere while transversing an obstacle course while firing hellfire at targets. This workout pushed her to her limits of endurance and agility. And when she completed a full round on the course which takes about 30 mins. Koray trains for 3 hours a day every day. "To control my destiny I need to be the best." is a mantra she lives by. Koray finished up her workout she walked into the kitchen to see Simone eating ice cream. "Must be nice to eat whatever you want and not have to work out and have a body that most would kill for." Said Koray with no hint of jealousy. "It is nice. " Said Simone "I have to say I watched you out there today and you were working yourself harder than normal. Is something wrong?" Koray wiped her brow with a towel. "I met someone that frustrates me." "Ah. So who are they?" Asked Simone. "A guy from my class. His name is Cian." Koray said as she grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. "Why does he frustrate you?"

Koray sighed. "He has power but for some reason, he doesn't use it. He wants to be common." Simone laughs "I see now. I have known you for a long time and you never understand when someone hides their gifts. Honey not everyone wants to be top of the world with their supernatural stuff. Some want a normal life." Koray's expression turns sour. "With the way, the world works you either have power and rule or you don't have power and you serve. I will never serve." Simone reaches into her backpack and pulls out her laptop. "Well, let's look up lover boy, and see who he is." Koray frowned. "Is that okay? Looking up a classmate."

"This is the modern world. Who hasn't run a search on classmates, future boy toys, or other interesting people." Simone's hands glided over the keyboard. First to the school roster to get a full name then a full search online. "Hmm...found him." Said Simone. Koray thought about it for only a second before looking over Simone's shoulder to see what she got. Cian Nathan Gray...son of Vradus Ethan Gray Director of operations of the United States Magical Agency and Veronica Gray head of the Therianthropes Alliance. "Holy hell. Your boy toy is the son of the strongest mage in the world." Simone gasped. "He isn't my boy toy. But you are right Vradus is the only Penta elemental mage known to exist ever. Why the hell is his son going to school low-key on the west coast instead of a more prestigious school. I mean our school is the best in the U.S. but with a dad like that he could have gone to one of the hundred-year-old schools." Simone whistles as her hands again move across the keyboard. "It seems he got into trouble a year ago. A lot of the records are sealed and his social media is on lockdown." Simone then sent an email to a friend. "What are you doing Simone?" Asked Koray. "Oscar is a friend of mine who can get dirt on anyone. I having him check out Cian." "Simone this guy has a dad that works for the department of defense. Your friend could get into a lot of trouble." "Don't worry bout Oscar. He knows his shit and won't get caught. Done." Koray watched as the email was sent. A message popped up on Ztalk. Ztalk was a messenger app that is encrypted and available to the public. With people wanting to make sure their conversations stayed private it became popular. "Hey, Miss Represented. You want me to snoop around with a guy protected by the Department of Defence and a private security company. Challenge accepted." Sent by No1knowsme. Koray laughed at the screen name. "This guy for real?" asked Koray. "Yeah, he is the real deal. I met him on a dating site about a year ago. He is 25 okay looking and got caught by the FBI for hacking. He works for them from time to time and knows he way with computers."

Koray leaves to shower and an hour later she sits on the couch with Simone and watches a movie. "What the hell are we watching Simone?" asked Koray. "D20 The Mighty Ducks" Simone said as she turned up the movie. Beep Beep. Simone checked her phone and then turned off the movie. "Hey...I was kinda watching that." Said Koray. "We have something more important to look at now," Simone said as she ran to get her laptop.

Simone pulled up an email from No1knowsme. In the email were several files and a note. "Hey Miss I got some stuff but I set it up to auto-delete after you have watched it. If anyone knew you had this info you could be in some serious trouble. I would tell you to either watch it immediately and let it delete itself or that you delete this right now."

"Shit." Said Simone. "Should we watch it?" She asked as she looked over at Koray. "Now I got to know what up." Said Koray.

The first file was a record of an interview from the police in Virginia. "So Mr. Gray. Do you have anything to say about the accusations against you?" asked a uniformed cop.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." Said Cian.

"Try me." Said the cop.

"Anything I say will be twisted to make me the bad guy. My family, her family, my teachers, and my peers believe that I am a monster. So why would I believe you are going to be different?"

Koray noticed that Cian looked beating up and sick. His eye that wasn't black was sunken and his clothes looked torn and all in all, he looked like hell.

"So are you saying you are innocent of the charges?" asked the cop.

"No comment." Said Cian.

"Come on. Say your side and clear up the story." said the cop.

"Lawyer." Said Cian.

The cop opened up a file on the table. "Assault, battery, destruction of property, and a whole slew of other charges. You really want to just sit there and look guilty?" said the cop.

"I am a minor and I want a lawyer," said Cian.

The cop closed the file and left the room and the video ended there.

"Damn got to love a bad boy." Said Simone.

"That was so messed up. He was hurt and he looks like someone was abusing him long-term and that cop was trying to trip him up. The minute he asked for a lawyer the cop should have stopped." Said Koray.

As soon as the file finished playing it was removed from Simone's computer. "Next vid?" asked Simone. Koray nodded.

The video was a family event that took place when Cian was 15. There were two families in the video. The Gray family and another. The second family is a father, mother, and daughter. The family was white and blonde-haired. The young daughter was all over Cian so it was obvious that they were in a relationship. The video was a backyard bbq and all was normal except that it was clear to Koray and Simone that Cian was the only one pretending to be happy. At the end of the video, Cian spilled some juice on the girl whose name they heard was Samantha in the video. Cian's face twisted up in fear and Samantha's posture shifted for a second but she turned and looked at the camera and seemed to control herself. Samantha began to laugh and left to get changed. The video ended there.

"Did you see that Koray?" asked Simone.

"Yeah...what the hell is going on here?"

There was one more video.

So I am going back through my work to fix the grammar issues I missed. Thank you for being understanding.
