Between the Lines

"So you failed to kill the woman and attacked the son of the head of the U.S.M.A. You have failed so hard on this simple mission that I can not let you retain your rank, Sunny." Said the voice on the phone.

Sunny a red-haired, pale-skinned young woman stood in her apartment. "Like I care."

A silence persisted on the other side of the phone. "I have just received some information, Sunny. The board has informed me that you will retain your rank, but you must kill Cian Gray. The boy that thwarted your attempts on the target's life. Your current mission will be given to another agent and backup will be sent to your location."

"Backup? Why do I need backup?" Said, Sunny.

"The target is dangerous and failure is not acceptable for this mission. Mr. Gray's records will be sent to you and we will be sending Havok and Chaos to help you with this mission. You are not to engage on your own. I repeat. You are not to attempt this alone. Is that understood Sunny?" said the voice on the phone.

"Understood. When will they arrive?" asked Sunny.

"Two days. " said the voice over the phone and then they ended the call.

"What the hell? Two days." Sunny said to herself.

Sunny then moved through the apartment. It wasn't her place but she killed the previous owners and tossed them in the ocean. Her laptop was on the coffee table and she logged in to read the file sent to her. Her laptop was triple encrypted and fingerprint and needed a command phrase to access. She opened the file and began to read. Everything was there. Samantha, Vradus Cian's Father, Veronica, Jason, and Blackthorn Security.

"Fuck. This kid is no joke. Triple sub-elements and a werelion. This kid is just dangerous." Sunny could feel nothing but hate for Cian. "You are lucky. Born to two parents that love you and genes you got from them forged a person that just makes normal people jealous. And I hate you for it."

Sunny was born to a poor family in Ireland and her home life was filled with beatings for existing. She went to school and earned a scholarship to a good school that would house her and feed her. She thought that there she would be safe but the other students made her life hell. They were there because their parents love them and had money. Something that Sunny would have given anything for. It was there that she found out her elements and a teacher took interest in her. Mr. Gordan took care of Sunny and prevented the worst of the bullying done to her. Mr. Gordan taught about genetics and how it applies to mages and other casters. It was during his lessons that Sunny began to formulate her views of nature and the world. To her nature favored those born with power and the world catered to those that were powerful. So in her mind, the natural world chooses who would be at the top of powers in the world. It was a system she hated and wanted to bring down that system. Sunny didn't want to rule but she wanted to see those born at the bottom of society and the natural world in power. This is why she joined Noble Eclipse. Mr. Gordan invited her into the group and she hasn't looked back. Sunny then looked up Havok and Chaos in N.E. records. Sunny was number 50 in the organization and known as a top agent. Havok was rank 80 which was still top tier and Chaos was 14 in the organization meaning he wasn't used excepted against some of the strongest people in the world of magic. He was a killer of the highest degree. The last person he killed was Magi Knight in England. His name was Sir Richard Brown and was the highest-ranked knight in serves to Great Britain. Sunny whistled.

"Damn kid. Looks like you are in trouble."

Cian was in his training room. That day at the accident he felt stronger than he has ever felt before. The increase in power concerned him. He explored his mind and body with his magic. The only difference he could feel was that his connection with Koray was stronger. It took less concentration to know where she is and her feelings were even easier to read. It has been a week since the police took them in for questioning and both his lawyer and hers had been dealing with the police. He and Koray had been talking and having virtual dates. Cian picked up his phone and called Koray.

"Hey, I was just thinking about you." Said Koray.

Cian laughed. "Same for me. I want to see you...in real life. Come over to my house and bring Simone."

Koray felt a little worried by Cian's request. "Cian I have talked to Simone about things but she hasn't really given me any feedback yet."

"This isn't me trying to force the situation or anything. You guys are my only friends and I want to spend time with you two."

Koray knew he was being honest. The bond between them had grown to a degree that she knew when he was telling the truth but as she sat on the phone she thought about the last week and she realized he has never lied to her.

"I will invite her but I am not sure how she will answer," said Koray.

"If you want I can ask her." Said Cian

"No, I got it. I will message you after I ask. Bye."

Cian could feel Koray's concern but after a few minutes, he could feel she was relieved. And he received a message that they were both on their way.

After 45 minutes they both arrived at Cian's beach house. Cian stepped out to great them.

"Damn lover boy you got a nice place here." Said Simone.

"Yeah, it's funny what a little family guilt can get you." Said Cian.

Simone gave Cian a funny look.

"Sorry. Family business I don't want to talk about. Come one in you two. Jason is out on a date so we have the whole house to ourselves."

The three entered the house. Simone was looking around in wonder.

"This place must cost a fortune." Said Simone.

"My parents are powerful people. And this place has amazing security." Said Cian.

Koray was quiet as the three moved into the kitchen.

"I have snacks and we can take them into the entertainment room."

Cian moved over to Koray. "Relax," Cian said as he lifted her chin with his left hand and leaned in and kissed her.

"Okay, we should really talk about this." Said Simone.

Both Koray and Cian looked at Simone.

"You two don't really love each other. It is just the curse," said Simone.

Cian could hear the jealousy in her voice. "You know I am not a novice at magic. I am also a spellbinder. I can feel how this spell is affecting me."

"Yeah just like you felt what Samantha did to you." Said Simone.

"That isn't fair Simone." Said Koray.

"It isn't your fault Koray. I taught you the spell and about how to use it but I know it better than you do. I know how it clouds the mind. What you two are feeling isn't real and you should break the link before it changed you both." Said Simone in a harsh tone.

Cian has always had a good ability to get a read on people. He had to be to survive with Samantha and he knew what was going on here.

"Are you saying that because you are concerned that Koray will get in trouble or are you saying because you are also in love with Koray?"

Simone face twisted up with surprise. Simone began to babble. "I...no...stop!"

Koray was surprised by that statement. "Simone, why did you never tell me?"

Koray moved forward towards Simone. Cian then heard a sound he had never heard before. Cian then rushed forward and pulled Simone and Koray close to him and placed his back to the kitchen wall that faced the ocean. A loud explosion sounded as a speed boat crashed through the wall. A cloud of wood and other things were flung through the air but Cian used his body to shield the two. When Simone opened her eyes Cian was in his hybrid form and there were several shards of wood piercing his back. One of them was long enough to spear through him and scratch her face. Before she knew it Cian was moving towards his room with both Koray and Simone in his arms. Once there Cian opened his closet and pressed on a wall. A secret compartment opened and he ordered both girls inside.

"NO! you have to stay with us!" screamed Koray.

"I won't let them hurt either of you." Said Cian as he shoved them both inside and closed the door.

As he stepped out of his closet he narrowly dodges a lance of light. A masked figure he had seen before was standing in his doorway.

"Just to let you know I am sorry about interrupting your date." Said the masked woman.
