Forty Seven

I was perplexed by what he meant, but I was even more surprised because he was handing me the pendant. I asked him why and he told me that the pendant was reacting to me. Merlin wasn't the only person who chose the heir, but by the pendant itself as well. All Merlin had to do was find someone who he thought will use the pendant for good, while the pendant chose a powerful sorcerer.

He believed that I was that person, but I didn't know what would happen if I took it, since the pendant kills anyone who isn't the owner or heir. He promised that if he was wrong, that he'd personally defeat Zephyr himself and restore Pasiphae. And if he was right, then he'd get to " tell Arthur how much of a cabbage head he is." I reluctantly agreed, reached out and grabbed the pendant.

In an instant, images flooded my mind of which I recognized none. When I opened my eyes, I asked Merlin what I saw and he told me that all the memories of the past owners were now mine. He then collapsed where he stood and managed to catch him before he hit his head. Time was catching up to him, and his body began fading away into dust in front of me.

I cried as I said spell after spell to make him stay, but he told me to stop wasting my energy. I didn't want him to go. I still had so much to learn. I couldn't do anything without him. I needed him.

I remember his last words as clear as day. As he told me in his last breath, "I'm so proud of you. Aww. Don't cry. It's going to be okay. I'll always be right here." he pointed to my heart and laid his hand on my head.

His ashes then turned to gold dust before circling around me and forming the same sword I had seen in my dream. I cried while holding his clothes in my arms until dusk. I finally descended the mountain and hugged Arthur as he cried in my arms. Everyone understood what had happened. With Arthur in my arms, I rose to face the mountain, with my sword raised and my eyes glowing.
