Prologue 3: Mezoli

Mezoli's PoV:

I had watched the two of them interact. He held her with intense ferocity, as though if anything or anyone got in his way, he'd execute them.

"I'll never let you be alone again."He said silkily to her.

I didn't want to miss this moment, I walked up to the pair, wrapping my arms around them.

"I won't either."

I didn't know why, but I felt like my soul was drawn to these two. I wanted to protect them and love them, despite not knowing them.

Ryan sobbed as we held her.

"It's ok love. We are here. We'll never let anything happen to you."I said softly, the words spilled from my lips before I realized what I had said. Emery nodded.

Eventually we helped Ryan to her feet. She was so short and adorable. However her face and her body disagreed with each other in more ways than one, being as they didn't seem to match. Her body was that of a woman, while her face was youthful and cute.

"Thank you."she smiled wiping a tear from her brown eyes.

I studied her carefully as she brushed herself off.

"Where are we off to?"I looked down at her.

"I don't even know your name."Ryan looked at me with curious eyes.

"Mezoli, but I would kindly ask for you to call me Mez."I smiled at her.

"Why?"She asked innocently.

"Because my name means something to my people, and I hate them for what they've done to me. They ostracized me..."I answered bitterly.

"How could you hate your own people?"She stared up at me with worry.

"I am ashamed of my heritage."I winced at the pain in my words.

Ryan looked like she wanted to push further in the subject, but she held her tongue.

"I'm trying to recover my memories."Ryan sensed the agony in my tone as she changed the subject.

"You have amnesia too?"Emery looked at her in disbelief.

"Whenever I try to remember things it goes black. Like something is preventing me from remembering. Like someone doesn't want me to remember."Ryan fidgeted with her hands.

"When I attempt to remember, everything becomes fuzzy."Emery held face, looking at the ground.

"Well I'll bet you're problem is magic. I do sense a spell on you."I said as if it was the most obviously thing in the world.

"Can you diminish the magic?"Emery rushed, looking up at me hopefully.

"I'm not sure. Once I figure out what kind of magic it is. I'm sure I can reverse it."I have him a small, but reassuring smile.

"I'm going now."Ryan began heading for the trees.

Emery quickly rose to his feet from his spot on the log, it was as if he was anxious to keep Ryan in his sight. And I felt his anxiousness, for some reason I wanted to keep her within my presence as well.

I ran to catch up to her. Emery was already at her side, loyally.

"Where do you guys want to go?"I inquired curiously.

"I don't know, but all I do know is I am going."Ryan huffed, clearly annoyed.

"What is the matter Ryan?"Emery looked down at her with a worried glance.

"I am just not use to so much attention. It's like you guys are stuck to me. It scares me. I have been alone for as long as I can remember,"she said with a sad expression. "I don't...I just...I'm not use to it."She stopped walking. "Think about it, alone for years beyond what I could count, and then suddenly two people enter my life and follow me whenever I go like their lives depend on it."She rubbed her arm.

"I can leave."Emery said reluctantly and very slowly, like he didn't want to be saying what he said, he looked in pain.

He began to walk off, but Ryan stopped him by grabbing his arm. She looked down at the ground as she clutched his sleeve. "Please don't leave me."She said sheepishly.

"I can't speak for Emery, but I swear I won't leave you."I wrapped my arms around her neck, pushing my chest against her back.

Her scent was intoxicating. I was infatuated with her scent.

Emery watched me with a hateful glare as I held onto her. He knelt down, gingerly taking her smaller hand in his large ones.

"I promise I shall never abandon you."He placed a gentle kiss in her hand.

His strange speech pattern was noticeably adorable.

Ryan blushed, "I-"She stopped herself, just standing there.

Soon after the moment had passed, we continued walking.

"We should go to the Mezorian continent."I suggested.

"Sounds good to me."Ryan stopped, pulling her a map out of her pocket, before crouching down.

"There is a village here, a town here, a city here and a Metropolis there."Ryan said pointing to various locations on the way to the pass leading to the Mezorian continent.

"I think we should stop in the village for food, food should be cheap there. Then the city for clothes & gear and since there are wanted photos of you everywhere it would be good to change styles. Then the metropolis for information."I scrutinized the map.

"The village is two days time from here so we'd better get moving."Ryan never looked up from the map. She took a deep breath in before putting away the map.

"Then the city is three days from that. Then the Metropolis is six days from that."She stood up, dusting herself off.

She headed in the direction of the village, soon darkness fell upon us and the silver sprinkled the sky. In the forest there was no light pollution, so you could see various colors in the sky.

I stared at the lovely embers of the fire that was between the three of us.

"Look there."I pointed to the northern sky."A nova."I smiled as Ryan's eyes reflected the stars.

She sat curled up in a ball against the tree.

"You can go to sleep you know."I looked over to Emery who was vigilantly surveying our surroundings.

"Are you referring to me?"He looked at me.

"Both of you. I can take first watch."

"I don't sleep."Ryan's said gruffly.

"Bu we will protect you."Emery tried to reassure her.

"I can protect myself."She said bitterly, staring at the fire. The flames made her beautiful skin glow.

She spitefully closed her eyes, laying with her back against the tree. It was clear she had been through immense trauma. I wanted to know, but we had gotten her to close her eyes. So I was thankful. I wouldn't push the subject until later.

I felt an evil aura watching us. I would have to sleep with one eye open.
