1 Menacing Penguin

I stepped out into the hallway and immediately I saw 7 people fighting an animal that looked like a penguin. Although it looked funny as it waddled around and fought the people, when it turned its gaze to me with its opened mouth, I could see layers upon layers of teeth and two vicious eyes filled with killing intent. Shocked by this, I started to fall back a little bit, when one of the people jumped at me with dagger in hand.

"Damn that idiot actually got killed by this kid!?"

Hearing this I knew these people weren't on my side, and as I tried to defend myself I found that my speed was far inferior to his. As I thought of all the ways I could try to minimize the damage, the penguin slid across to my location on his belly at an unbelievable speed. In the blink of an eye the penguin was behind my attacker and the penguin gulped him up in one go.

Remembering it's vicious eyes filled with killing intent that looked at me, I took a defensive stance that I formed through hundreds of battles. Seeing my actions the penguin scoffed and puked out a pair of gauntlets on the floor at me, and immediately slid back to a group of 6 unsettled assassins.

Seeing that the penguin was sliding back to them, the group of unsettled assassins started to go transparent. But before they could make a move, the penguin opened its mouth once again and shot out a beam of frozen air revealing 6 frozen statues that once were the 6 assassins.

As I looked at the faces of the frozen statues that were filled with shock, pain and horror. I knew I stood no chance at fighting the penguin, I put on the gauntlets and prepared to barrage the wall to escape, -but I was interrupted by a voice.-

"Those look nice on you!"

*cruNcH CrUNcH*

I looked over at the voice that sounded like it was talking to an old friend, and saw a penguin that looked somehow cute while eating up the frozen bodies.

"Are you going to kill me?"

"Why would I kill an old friend?"

"An old friend?"

"I guess we really never saw each other... Hmm, you know how you left out food?"

"Yes?"

"I'm the one that ate them!"

"Oh! I see then."

I didn't really leave "food" out, it was really just chunks of monster remains that I kept by my side in my room, since I didn't have any bag or pocket that it could fit in. When I noticed my monster remains were going missing, I gave up on stock piling them and just resorted to selling them for a lower price. I sometimes brought them back home however since I couldn't find a buyer and unsurprisingly they went missing.I didn't want to reveal this however since it might ruin a relationship I didn't know I had with the penguin. And although I was kind of mad that the monster remains that I planned to save up to buy good equipment were eaten up by the penguin, my anger quickly disappeared since my life that the penguin saved was much more valuable than those monster remains.

"Hm, I have better armor for you if you want."

"Oh, yes that would be nice."

I said as I was interrupted from my thinking. I looked back at the penguin that was now sliding around on the ground swallowing up the mess from the fight, and as it slid around, its belly cleaned up some blood that was on the floor. When it was done with cleaning up the hallway, he waddled up to me and puked out a full suit of flexible armor.

Although the suit of flexible armor was covered with saliva at first, he started rubbing it on his belly that was surprisingly clean even after cleaning the hallway. After a moment of silence the suit of flexible armor was completely clean and looked to be new. He handed it over to me in a proud manner, and told me, "put it on it'll look good on you!"

I accepted it without any hesitance, and went to go back into my small apartment to change, but it was blocked by the dead body that was slowly oozing out more and more blood. Seeing this the penguin slid up to the body and ate his body in one go, along with the head and he once again cleaned up the blood by sliding around.

Seeing this I wondered if all the strange events of today were a dream, and that I would later just find myself waking up with a sore neck and back.

I walked into my room and the penguin closed the door. As he stayed outside I quickly changed my clothes, sometimes hitting the walls on accident and causing a banging sound. When I was done changing I started to go for the handle to open the door, when a familiar voice sounded near me,

"It really does look good on you, I'd probably bet that it could allow you to take hits 4 times if not 5 times harder than what you used to be able to!"

"Were you here the whole time?"

"Yup!"

"How did you get in?"

"Well I am kind of linked to you in a weird way, I guess"

"What way?"

"Well, I kind of live in you... I guess."

"What do you mean in me?"

"I can break down my body, and then go inside you to rest. Especially if my opponents that I was fighting were tough and I needed to rest."

"What do you mean break down your body and go inside me? And by what you're saying this isn't the first time you fought as well?

"Look I'll just tell you everything I know, since you don't seem to know as much as I thought you would. I came into existence about 4-5 years ago from an egg, which I ate shortly after I was born."

He probably hatched from some monster egg I mistook for a bone... he continued on and talked about how he had defended me for years. This revealed that I was in danger of assassination attempts almost weekly and that I only survived due to the penguin. He later on went to explain that he originally wasn't a penguin, but a bear instead and that he had changed like me at the same time. I also learned that he rested while daytime since he stayed up at night staying on guard to defend me, which explained why he knew about me but I didn't. Although what he said explained some things, it still left out some things.

"What about the breaking down thing!"

"Oh, how did I forget that? Heheh, in all honesty I don't know much either. The reason for most of my actions were because I felt a strange sense of attraction towards you. I don't know if this was due to you being the first thing I saw since birth, but I do feel a strange attraction towards you. When I was born, I couldn't feel anything but the cold, and I wanted to seek warmth which I found through resting in one of your pockets. As I started to rest I was slowly sucked into your body, I didn't resist however since at the time I was still cold but your body that sucked me in offered me warmth. And that's about it, the breaking down thing I don't know much about it. It's just like walking, I can control it, but I don't know anything that's happening inside my body that allows me to."
